In the pilot, Ann remarks to Schneider "don't you have a wife downstairs?"
Later on in the season, we find out that his wife left him many years earlier (or something to that effect).
So I wonder what was up--did the writers intend for him to be married and later argued "nahhhh, he's better off single"?

This show must have set some type of record for showing divorced characters:
Ann, Schneider, Mary Louise Wilson's neighbor character, Sam, Nick and his ex-wife and probably someone else that I'm overlooking- was Francine divorced?

I think she was, but don't quote me on that. Did Julie and Max get a divorce?

I don't think so. Honestly, all the divorce in this show was a bit depressing- maybe that's why i prefer the 80s eps when there was a lot of marriage in the show.

It was simply stated that Julie abandoned Max and their baby girl, but the show did not go on longer to specify divorce. I still think that was a crummy way to get rid of the Julie character.
