I was watching Mad About You the other night and Carl Reiner was on it playing Alan Brady (from the Dick Van Dyke Show). All through the episode there were references to the show and at one point, Helen Hunt did Mary Tyler Moore's loud crying thing imitating Laura. She even did the Ohh Rob... thing (except it was Oh Paul). I also saw a show recently (can't remember what it was now) that talked about Chuckles funeral on the MTM show. Anybody know of references like this? I love them!

I remember that Mad About You ep. I watched it once on Lifetime only b/c Carl was on, hehe. There are few more references listed in this (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=211949) thread. I'm sure there are a lot more, though, that we haven't covered.

This wasn't a recent show, but didn't the opening credits of "Rhoda", at least for the first season, show Valerie Harper throwing her hat in the air, like Mary, but the hat fell to the ground?

Also, two summers ago, when in Minneapolis to see the Red Sox play the Twins, I did a personal tribute to Mary at the Mary statue, throwing my baseball cap into the air. It seemed to me that half the people wondered what I was doing, and half of them had seen this tribute many times before and didn't even bat an eye!

I also trekked to the house that had the first Mary apartment (very cool), went to the area where she walked around the lake, and also saw Basil's Restaurant, where she dined during the opening credits. I saw the second apartment building, but I forgot to locate the office building she worked in. Oh well, I still had a blast!

I've always considered Paul & Jamie Buchmann to be a modern day version of Rob & Laura Petrie. I read somewhere that the "MAD ABOUT YOU" producers did too, and that's why they had on Carl Riener as Alan Brady.
