Pavan 01-28-2008, 04:05 PM "Baywatch" Returns with a Splash Weeknights on ION Television
The "Most-Watched TV Series in the World" from FremantleMedia North America Joins ION Television's Primetime Programming Lineup
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- ION Media Networks, Inc. (AMEX:ION) has entered into an agreement with distributor Litton Entertainment to air FremantleMedia North America's mega-hit television series, "Baywatch," on ION Television, it was jointly announced today by Brandon Burgess, Chairman and CEO of ION Media Networks, and Dave Morgan, President and CEO of Litton Entertainment. The agreement marks the latest addition of popular, quality programming to the network's primetime lineup. This upbeat, action-packed series melds real-life issues, accessible characters and tongue-in-cheek humor to provide ION's broad audience with a perennial favorite that defined a genre. "Baywatch" on ION will launch Monday, March 3, and air Mondays through Thursdays at 10 pm (ET).
"This is another fun example of our strategy to offer upbeat, mainstream programming to our viewers," said Burgess. "This iconic series is a multi-generational TV staple, and 'America's Got Talent' and 'Borat' have made David Hasselhoff and Pam Anderson as hip and relevant as ever."
Set on the beaches of Malibu, "Baywatch" centers on the daily adventures of a team of athletic California lifeguards, their life-saving work and their off-duty relationships. Featuring David Hasselhoff as Lt. Mitch Buchannon, the series made international stars out of Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, Yasmine Bleeth and Alexandra Paul. In each episode, new dangers imperiled the cast, but, racing to the rescue in trademark slow-mo' style, Los Angeles County's finest lifeguards usually prevailed. Not long after its debut, "Baywatch" became the most-watched television show in the world.
"We are thrilled to announce that 'Baywatch' will be back before national audiences in prime time," said Morgan. "This classic series features drama, action, romance, humor and a cast of celebrity icons."
"This brand goes from strength to strength," added Lisa Honig, Vice President, Program Distribution for FremantleMedia Enterprises in North America, the licensing, distribution and home entertainment division of FremantleMedia. "'Baywatch' continues to draw audiences on-air all over the world and remains a lucrative revenue stream off-air with a strong demand in both the home entertainment and consumer products markets. We're delighted to be working with ION and Litton to bring the show back to the domestic fan base."
The new agreement is part of ION's ongoing initiative to add compelling programming from leading content providers that blends effectively with the network's signature quality content. This past New Year's Eve, ION Television added to its primetime lineup the Emmy-nominated series, "The Drew Carey Show." "Baywatch" will further broaden the network's appeal by targeting a contemporary audience with fun and upbeat entertainment.
"Baywatch, which premiered on NBC in 1989 and ran in first-run syndication from 1991-2001, was executive produced by Michael Berk, Gregory J. Bonan and Douglas Schwartz.
JulieSomoski 01-28-2008, 04:18 PM Baywatch? Baywatch? Of all the GREAT shows ION has to offer us, they decide to go with Baywatch? I have nothing against the show, but I don't see it on ION. But, I think Who's the Boss? time is way up on this network, so I'm not too mad to see it go. Hopefully it'll return at some point, maybe to replace that god-awful Wayans Bros.
Scoobiedoo30 01-28-2008, 04:40 PM I guess Who's The Boss? is going on Hiatus
Pavan 01-28-2008, 04:42 PM As I said, the rest of the changes are coming soon, if there are any. So you can't say Who's the Boss? is on "hiatus" or "gone" until it is official.
Baywatch is a good addition I think. It should do very well and make ION younger. It should flow well out of Drew. I liked seasons 3 and 4, but not any other.

It will do better after Drew Carey for sure, better than Who's the Boss? You still don't have any ratings for Drew Carey Pavan?
I'm still waiting for them to yank off The Wayans. Bros. I can't imagine who anyone's watching that. Possibly we could see Who's the Boss go there if anything.
I actually watched Baywatch the first year, before it went into syndication, a few times. After that, I didn't care for it.
EmoJoe 01-28-2008, 04:50 PM are they going for a more 90s line-up or something?
Scoobiedoo30 01-28-2008, 04:50 PM so you think they could expand the Hours
JulieSomoski 01-28-2008, 04:52 PM are they going for a more 90s line-up or something?
I liked it better when it was 70's/80's
Just came to me - Alice is still here. I thought it would also be gone by now, but I'm glad to see it stay.
Scoobiedoo30 01-28-2008, 05:07 PM the thing I wondering is Baywatch still coming to Local Station's
Pavan 01-28-2008, 05:10 PM It will do better after Drew Carey for sure, better than Who's the Boss? You still don't have any ratings for Drew Carey Pavan?

I don't have exact ratings for Drew. It probably is doing decent. But I am sure Baywatch will improve on Who's the Boss' numbers.
As for Wayans, it does well. It is doing well on BET and when it was on locals, it wasn't a top sitcom hit, but it always performed solidly. Wayans certainly brings in more younger viewers, but why have Alice at 7PM? That would be a waste. They should move it if they expand to the daytime or something and bring in something compatible to Wayans. I love Alice, but it certainly isn't going to bring in younger viewers. Mama's is here to stay obviously. I always think it would be better in the 6pm hour, but whatever.
Here's hoping they expand to 3-6pm at least with some sitcom showings of the '80s. Something like:
3pm Alice, 3:30pm Diff'rent Strokes, 4:00pm Who's the Boss?, 4:30pm Perfect Strangers, 5:00pm Growing Pains, 5:30pm The Wonder Years, 6:00pm Mama's Family, 6:30pm Mama's Family, 7:00pm Wayans Bros., 7:30pm Wayans Bros., 8:00pm Jamie Foxx, 8:30pm Jamie Foxx, 9:00pm Drew Carey, 9:30pm Drew Carey, 10:00pm Baywatch
Maybe something like Martin would be better 8-9pm. Other option would be Living Single...long shots Eve, All of Us.
With Baywatch coming to ION, the chance of it returning to locals is now slim since ION is a broadcast channel.
tazz765 01-28-2008, 05:11 PM Why doesn't ION air some of the shows they already have the rights to (like the Sony or WB shows) instead of buying additional shows?
Scoobiedoo30 01-28-2008, 05:13 PM I with you Pavan I would like to see The Hours Expand from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm Central Time
JulieSomoski 01-28-2008, 05:17 PM Why doesn't ION air some of the shows they already have the rights to (like the Sony or WB shows) instead of buying additional shows?
That's what I said in my first post. Why air Baywatch when they have the rights to so many great sitcoms? they bought these exclusive rights with Sony and WB, but they go out of there way to get other shows from other distributors.
Pavan, that's true about Alice. Again, I'm surprised its still there. But, Mama's Family doesn't bring in younger viewers, either, and Alice is the lead in to Mama.
When are they going to expand? We've been talking about it for A LONG TIME now, yet nothing ever happens. They should definitely air the 70's and 80's show in the daytime, and concentrate on the younger-appealing shows in primetime.
Pavan 01-28-2008, 05:20 PM Mama's Family should really move out of primetime and help launch early evening around 6-7pm. It does skew old, but it does draw great ratings. It is also their number one show in 18-49 currently (pre-Drew, I'm not sure of Drew's exact numbers)...so what does that say, lol?
What better way to cap off the daytime line-up with Mama's Family from 6-7pm (dinner with Mama!) leading into the newer 90s stuff from 7-11pm.
I think ION bought Baywatch clearly because they know it can draw ratings and make them younger. I don't think any archive show from Sony, Universal or Warner's libraries can do that. But yes, they should use more shows from their libraries and form a daytime line-up. Maybe they will in March...we will know soon.

ION is clearly afraid of moving Mama from it's classic 8pm slot. They tried it with Perfect Strangers, and that obviously bombed. and 6pm is out of primetime, isn't it? So the show wouldn't be getting it's great ratings in primetime. They should move Alice to 6pm, move Mama to 7pm, and move Wayans Bros. to 8pm, with Drew and Baywatch at 9 and 10pm.
I still can't understand why Mama is consistently drawing the best ratings? It's kind of like Fresh Prince on NAN - it does well, but you never know why. I'm really dying to know how Drew's ratings are on ION. I think I'll do a search on that and try to find something out.
Maybe they will expand next month . . . you never know. It isn't too likely, but they could. I'd love to see them do it, and bring back shows like Growing Pains, The Wonder Years, and now WTB, with maybe a few other 80's shows in the afternoon. Tha would be an awesome afternoon block.
Scoobiedoo30 01-28-2008, 05:34 PM IF Ion does expand Houras they should put Perfect Strangers in the daytime Hour
JulieSomoski 01-28-2008, 05:48 PM IF Ion does expand Houras they should put Perfect Strangers in the daytime Hour
That's another 80's show that they should air again.
Scoobiedoo30 01-28-2008, 07:35 PM what is the other 80's sitcom should air on ion
JulieSomoski 01-28-2008, 07:36 PM what is the other 80's sitcom should air on ion
The ones aired in the past . . . The Wonder Years, Growing Pains, Who's the Boss? . . . it could be an 80's block, and a family block of shows at the same time.
Scoobiedoo30 01-28-2008, 07:43 PM how do you think the schedule should be
JulieSomoski 01-28-2008, 07:58 PM how do you think the schedule should be
Here's what I'd like to see for now, with only shows they aired in the past and shows currently airing now, once they expand:

3:30 Growing Pains
4:00 Who's the Boss?
4:30 Who's the Boss?
5:00 The Wonder Years

Here's something I'd LOVE to see if I could:

4:30 Growing Pains
5:00 Who's the Boss?
5:30 The Wonder Years

9;30 Drew Carey Show
10:00 Whose Line is it Anyway?
10:30 Whose Line is it Anyway?
Again, the second is pretty much a dream schedule. But I think the first one would actually work, because it's actually an organized schedule, not just some random shows placed on a grid.

TVFactFan 01-29-2008, 12:40 AM Mama's Family's hasn't BUDGED in MONTHS from that 8pm slot-lol Damm, that show ION"s Fresh Prince
Scoobiedoo30 01-29-2008, 02:16 AM Mama's Family is been in the 7:00 pm Central Hour since it Debuted on Ion
Jude The Obscure 01-29-2008, 04:20 AM Hopefully this means Alice will get a chance to finish at least one cycle. I don't see Baywatch going through at least one cycle. I'm sure ION bought the newly repackaged 125 episode version, that was intended to go back into local broadcast syndication.
JulieSomoski 01-29-2008, 11:07 AM Mama's Family's hasn't BUDGED in MONTHS from that 8pm slot-lol Damm, that show ION"s Fresh Prince
months? it's been there for years-LOL
TVFactFan 01-29-2008, 07:49 PM months? it's been there for years-LOL
I never even knew I had ION until early 2007-lol So I have no idea about the history of Mama's family and still feel sick that I didn't watch Welcome Back Kotter when I had the Chance when on ION-lol
Scoobiedoo30 01-29-2008, 07:54 PM I would like to see Head of The Class and Welcome Back Kotter back to back
Yay for "Baywatch." It'll be great to see all of the pre-T&A fest episodes. The first five or six seasons or so were great adventure TV, in line with shows like "The A-Team" and "The Dukes of Hazzard," but with some ounces of "Melrose Place" thrown in. I'm really anxious to see it again.
JulieSomoski 01-30-2008, 04:13 PM I never even knew I had ION until early 2007-lol So I have no idea about the history of Mama's family and still feel sick that I didn't watch Welcome Back Kotter when I had the Chance when on ION-lol
Exactly like me. I didn't realize there even was an ION network until around a year ago. So, i was only able to catch like the last 2 seasons of Growing Pains before it went off the network, which sucks.
tanquant 01-30-2008, 07:36 PM Baywatch? Lord Help us!! Mama's Family is the only show that I watch on Ion so i guess that I'm one of those that help to keep it on. I have alwys loved it since the 80's. It's just one of those shows that I never get tired of watching.
TVJunkie101 02-03-2008, 02:44 PM Hmm. That's an interesting addition. I personally liked Seasons 2-4 so I'll try to at least watch those. I used to love Baywatch as a teenager (naturally).
Pavan 02-04-2008, 06:53 PM Could be a good sign for more hours:
Inside Drag Racing changes networks in 2008, debuting on ION Television beginning in April. Inside Drag Racing will air at 4:30 p.m. (ET) every Saturday through December.
Scoobiedoo30 02-04-2008, 07:00 PM This is a very good sign for more Hours I think.
TVFactFan 02-04-2008, 07:06 PM ION has had some AWFUL additions lately, Wayans Brothers, Baywatch and Now Drag Racing
Pavan 02-04-2008, 07:33 PM Well it is just a half-hour Drag Racing series that will air once a week.
Scoobiedoo30 02-04-2008, 07:54 PM I wonder what the schedule would be like what does everybody think's
JulieSomoski 02-05-2008, 05:52 PM ION has had some AWFUL additions lately, Wayans Brothers, Baywatch and Now Drag Racing
Ha! I couldn't agree with you more!
Why at 4:30? Shouldn't it be at like 5:30, so it can lead into the regular programming at 6pm?
icecream 02-05-2008, 06:24 PM Why at 4:30? Shouldn't it be at like 5:30, so it can lead into the regular programming at 6pm?4:30 is better. That way they can put a good show like The Wonder Years or Early Edition from 5-6PM.
JulieSomoski 02-05-2008, 06:33 PM 4:30 is better. That way they can put a good show like The Wonder Years or Early Edition from 5-6PM.
Yeah, if they expand. But for now, they're airing it at 4:30, with an hour of infomercials or whatever they air at 5pm, before the regular programming at 6pm. Wouldn't it just make more sense to air it at 5:30?
Maybe they plan on expanding in to the 5-6PM hour in the near future? Just a guess
Scoobiedoo30 02-05-2008, 08:45 PM if they air from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm what could they air
Pavan 02-05-2008, 09:02 PM March or April's full schedule has not been announced yet, so you don't know what the plan is...they could have something in the 5pm hour.
Scoobiedoo30 02-05-2008, 09:06 PM that why I am saying To Be Announced at this time.
Scoobiedoo30 02-07-2008, 11:34 PM I just throught of something if Who's The Boss? moves to a new Time maybe it will air 5 night's a week.
Pavan 02-12-2008, 02:11 PM The following is still a long way away, so time expansion and more could be done way before this. I'm sure many will not like this move. But here it is anyway.:
ION Television to Add "M*A*S*H" to Its Fall Programming Lineup
ION Media Networks Secures Rights to Critically-Acclaimed Series from Twentieth Television
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- ION Media Networks, Inc. (AMEX:ION) today announced it has entered into an agreement with Twentieth Television to air the television series, "M*A*S*H," on ION Television. The agreement marks the latest addition of programming to the ION network's primetime lineup. This comedic drama melds humor, social, political commentary and often heart-wrenching plotlines to provide ION's broad audience with a perennial favorite that redefined the boundaries of television programming.
"A timeless staple like 'M*A*S*H' is a great win for our schedule, as we migrate our network to mainstream audience appeal in the 2008/2009 season," said Brandon Burgess, Chairman and CEO, ION Media Networks. "We anticipate further announcements in coming months, including some shows that people may not expect from us, as we look to give ION Television a more light-hearted and open-minded programming sensibility that will invite new audiences."
Set in the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M*A*S*H), the show's lovable surgeons take their jobs, their patients and their leisure time very seriously. The side-splitting antics of one of the greatest ensemble casts ever assembled led "M*A*S*H" to one of the longest series runs in television history.
Lauded with 14 Emmys and critical acclaim, "M*A*S*H" helped launch the careers of Alan Alda, McLean Stevenson, Loretta Swit, Jamie Farr and Mike Farrell. The series aired in prime time for 11 seasons on CBS, and its two-and-a-half-hour finale still holds the record for the most-watched television episode in U.S. television history with over 105 million viewers, representing 77 percent of TV viewership that night.
The new agreement is part of ION's ongoing initiative to add compelling programming from leading content providers that blends effectively with the network's signature quality content. This past New Year's Eve, ION Television added to its primetime lineup the Emmy-nominated series, "The Drew Carey Show." "Baywatch," debuting on March 3, will further broaden the network's appeal by targeting a contemporary audience with fun and upbeat entertainment.
God, what's with these odd shows like Baywatch and M*A*S*H? They seem to be wanting more male-oriented entertainment. Isn't M*A*S*H already on two other networks?
Pavan 02-12-2008, 03:36 PM MASH is on two cable networks. ION is broadcast, so it could be possible that local broadcast channels will lose MASH this fall when ION gets it.
Scoobiedoo30 02-12-2008, 03:38 PM this start's in September of 2008 right
JulieSomoski 02-12-2008, 04:16 PM Boy Pavan, you were right when you said not many of us will like this move. I can't stand M*A*S*H. In my opinion, it's one of the most overrated shows of all time (especially the finale on its own). We complain about it airing too much on TV Land, it still airs on Hallmark, doesn't it? Now we have to see it on ION.
I know that's still a ways away, but I think ION are making awful programming choices lately. First Baywatch, now M*A*S*H. What's next, American Idol telecasts?
friendsfan77 02-12-2008, 04:19 PM of all shows to pick up ... why pick up something that already more than enough exposure?? I'm not a fan of Baywatch but least that hasn't been seen in a while.
JulieSomoski 02-12-2008, 04:49 PM of all shows to pick up ... why pick up something that already more than enough exposure?? I'm not a fan of Baywatch but least that hasn't been seen in a while.
And M*A*S*H isn't even a Warner or Sony show - it makes no sense to spend all the money on something when they can air many better shows they already have rights to.
Let's hope by then ION will expand. Then at least we can get some decent programming.
Pavan 02-12-2008, 04:52 PM Maybe by then though they will have a daytime block filled with Warner, Sony, etc library packages. I could careless what they do in primetime, but I hope we get a nice daytime block. I bet in the fall it will be MASH-Drew-Baywatch from 8-11.
JulieSomoski 02-12-2008, 05:05 PM Maybe by then though they will have a daytime block filled with Warner, Sony, etc library packages. I could careless what they do in primetime, but I hope we get a nice daytime block. I bet in the fall it will be MASH-Drew-Baywatch from 8-11.
For some reason, MASH seems like it would go well with Mama's Family.
We can only hope they'll give us a great afternoon 80's block. There are tons of great 80's family shows out there, plus shows that can return to the sked like Growing Pains, Wonder Years, and WTB.
By the fall, I doubt Drew Carey will still be there at 9pm. They'll probably do Mama at 8pm, MASH at 9pm, and Baywatch at 10pm. (although Mash isn't a great lead-in for Baywatch.)
Pavan 02-12-2008, 05:17 PM Maybe they can do Baywatch at 7, Mama at 8, Drew at 9 and MASH at 10...but we are thinking way too far ahead.
Jude The Obscure 02-12-2008, 05:17 PM If they don't expand by fall (and from all signs, there is no reason to expect that they will)-ION would just lose any momentum it hopes to build by adding these more "demographically" pleasing shows. All these shows in Warner/Sony libraries just sitting there going to waste and these people make more programming deals with other studios!!

I'd love to see Drew stay at 9pm . . . when there's nothing else on, it's easier to fall back on than WTB was, because it's nothing more than a funny show.
I think it would depend on where TV Land is airing the show then. They would definitely air MASH somewhere in primetime - Maybe Mama at 7pm, MASH at 8pm, Drew at 9pm, and Baywatch at 10pm.
You're right, though - that's still like 7 months away.

If they can't do it all at once, maybe they could expand an hour or two every month or every other month.
Scoobiedoo30 02-12-2008, 05:44 PM this is what I am thinking
Alice at 6:00 pm and 6:30 pm
Mama's Family at 7:00 pm and 7:30 pm
M*A*S*H at 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm and
Baywatch at 9:00 pm
Well, with additions like Wayans, Drew Carey, M*A*S*H, Baywatch....Mama and Alice don't really fit anymore. Wouldn't surprise me if they're bumped back or pulled from the network altogether by fall.
They seem to be going for more recent shows and edgier-type shows. I can see them dropping WTB?....it doesn't really fit the direction they seem to be going in. Wouldn't surprise me to see them drop Alice and replace it with something like A-Team, Battlestar Gallactica, Miami Vice, etc.

I don't think they're going towards more recent, just more mainstream. They're trying to air programs of all eras, that'll appeal to many different agegroups. In fact, MASH would be the oldest show on their lineup right now.
I doubt we'd see Mama go. It consistently does well for the network. It never has done bad.
Dean Winchester 02-13-2008, 04:30 PM why MASH of all shows? Isn't MASH played out enough as it is? I mean, that show is so overplayed that shows like Three's Company look underplayed.
Knowing the route ION's going, by Christmas, it'll be a roster of Friends, Seinfeld and Raymond

This is really the only show they bought that was overrated and played out. Think of all the shows that are on their lineup and have been in the past: Alice, Who's the Boss?, The Wonder Years, and even Baywatch haven't been seen in awhile.
MASH is overplayed . . . on Hallmark, TV Land, and still in syndication. Enough is enough already.

ION should start a "ION 2" on DTV and air the older, niche programming that they have. Wonder if they'd try it.....are the more recent, mainstream 'tried and true' stuff like M*A*S*H, Baywatch, Mama, etc on ION and the more niche stuff like Green Acres, Wonder Years, Alice, Alfred Hitchcock, Adam-12, Growing Pains, etc. on the second one. Would that even be possible? I know they have ION Life and qubo, so maybe another one wouldn't be impossible.

Alice will definitely be gone soon . . . it seems like the most out of place show on their lineup. It's gone before, I'm sure it'll go again.
I doubt we'll ever see an ION 2. I think we'd see Nick at Nite go all day before we see an ION2. For now, I'd just like to see ION add some hours to their schedule.
They need to expand to 24 hours before they decide to do an ION 2.
I'm just so ridiculously eager to know when the paid programming blocks' contracts are up...the thought of alllllll of that time languishing...it ticks me off. There's just so much they can do with the variety of stuff they have.

IONTV Classics? Shows from 90's and before
IONTV Sports? Sports Night,Sports Events,Sports Game Shows,Sports Movies and so on
IONTV Movies? RHI ones and others
IONTV Music?
IONTV Shopping? Can hook up with Product Information Network or buy Shop at Home TV that's going off the air again
IONTV Spanish?
IONTV can be new shows that are on from 8pm to 11pm,from 2000 and beyond,S. Programming like Talk and Game Shows and so on.
Yeah, maybe a second network was a little far-stretched....maybe if Baywatch and M*A*S*H do well, and Mama and Drew continue to do well they'll draw enough advertisers so they won't have to rely on infomercials so much for $$$. Maybe trim the infomercials back to something like 2AM-9 or 10AM, have Sony/Warner/Universal shows from 10AM-6 or 7PM, and have the specially-acquired stuff and more recent, mainstream shows air during prime time.
With these special acquisitions they're making, ION is definately at a point to expand. There isn't going to be any room for the library deal shows.

RocktheBeat81 02-16-2008, 12:35 AM ion's "drama serials (soaps)" is out of place with its 70's - 80's sitcoms line-up. If they wanna carry shows like wayans bros, drew carey, and baywatch (really late 80's/early 90's) then they should create another channel where they can get the attention it needs. TVLand and Nick at Nite has failed to deliver classic 80's sitcoms, with much dedication to mostly ABC and NBC channel sitcoms.
I think there should be a new channel designed to air television shows such as Out of this World, Small Wonder, Alf, Silver Spoons, Parker Luis Can't Lose, The Wonder Years, Webster, Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, My Two Dads, Punky Brewster, Charles in Charge, My Secret Identity, Growing Pains, Family Ties, Perfect Strangers, Just the Ten of Us, and so on and so on...

The Verdict's In: "Boston Legal," from David E. Kelley Productions & Twentieth Television, to Join ION Television's Primetime Lineup
ION Television to Air Award-Winning Series Weeknights This Fall
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- ION Media Networks, Inc. (AMEX:ION) announced today that it has entered into an agreement with Twentieth Television to air the David E. Kelley hit television series, "Boston Legal," on ION Television, beginning this Fall. The agreement marks a milestone in the network's commitment to popular and diverse entertainment.
"'Boston Legal' will be to ION Television what Denny Crane is to Crane, Poole & Schmidt bold, outrageous and positively entertaining," said Brandon Burgess, Chairman and CEO, ION Media Networks. "Smart writing, with humor and heart, and an all-star cast, including James Spader, Candice Bergen and William Shatner, makes this one of the best shows on television. We are excited to bring 'Boston Legal' to millions of fans on the ION Television Network starting this Fall."
Led by an Emmy Award-winning cast, "Boston Legal" tells the professional and personal stories of a group of brilliant but often emotionally challenged attorneys. Fast-paced and wildly comedic, the series confronts social and moral issues, while its characters continually stretch the boundaries of the law.
In making the announcement, Bob Cook, president and COO of Twentieth Television, stated, "We are excited that ION Television will be sharing with their viewers this Emmy Award-winning program, exemplifying the best in television writing and acting."
Back-to-back Emmy Award-winners James Spader and William Shatner play Alan Shore and Denny Crane, unlikely kindred spirits among the brigade of high-priced litigators at Crane, Poole & Schmidt. Five-time Emmy-winner Candice Bergen plays Shirley Schmidt, a founding partner of the firm, who helps bring order to the chaotic office. To help keep the quirky office staff in tow, Schmidt calls in Crane nemesis and senior partner Carl Sack (Emmy Award-winner John Larroquette) to Boston from the New York offices. Rounding out the cast since the series' inception are Rene Auberjonois, Monica Potter, Mark Valley and Julie Bowen.
Created by David E. Kelley, "Boston Legal" has regularly been a top 20 program on ABC and draws one of the most affluent audiences in television. Kelley and Bill D'Elia are executive producers. The series, which premiered October 3, 2004, airs on ABC and is produced by David E. Kelley Productions in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television.
"Boston Legal" has won five Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award and a Golden Globe. Crane, Poole & Schmidt will be open for business this Fall on ION Television.
JulieSomoski 02-19-2008, 04:18 PM If they don't expand in the fall, I'd be shocked. Boston Legal isn't as bad an acquisiton as MASH, but it's still a drama, which take sup an hour of their lineup. If this, plus MASH, will be airin gin primetime, I seriously hope they have a killer daytime lineup.
Pavan 02-19-2008, 04:32 PM Read today's blog: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2008/02/fox-post-strike-line-up-boston-legal.html

7:00PM Drew Carey
7:30PM Drew Carey
8:00PM M*A*S*H
8:30PM M*A*S*H

First MASH in primetime only covers cable airings (which is why Hallmark airs them in daytime and TV Land at night). Secondly, are you all forgetting about the African American programming initiative that ION a few weeks back,? So they will be scheduling some urban oriented shows somewhere in that schedule. Thirdly, I don't see them hanging on to Mama's Family at this point in primetime. And lastly, ION better be expanding their programming hours at this rate--BTW, where are they getting all this money to acquire these new programs??
Forgot about the African-American thing. Since they seem to be on a shopping spree lately, one would wonder if they'll buy The Cosby Show or Fresh Prince (could they already have it?) and air it. Or would that not work since they're both on locals? They're getting some pretty big shows.
And when they get these newer, specially-acquired shows, wouldn't surprise me if Mama is removed from prime-time. Hard to picture it with Baywatch and Boston Legal.
I guess those infomercials must be getting them SOME money....maybe they've kept them around to pay for these shows.
VisualSensation 02-19-2008, 11:59 PM The only silver lining I've been able to find was from this ION press release eariler this month...
“I am very pleased to be joining ION at this critical juncture in its growth,” said Mr. Lawson. “I’ve often said that the television broadcasting industry was poised for a new era of growth as ’wireless TV.’ Brandon Burgess and ION are leading the way in unlocking the real value of digital television. I look forward to helping develop the policies and strategies that will take ION to the next level.”
Hopefully that means they will put the 80's sitcoms on their digital subchannels.
Jude The Obscure 02-20-2008, 12:39 AM But will all those digital subchannels ever see the light of day on cable/satellite? I don't even have a ION affiliate in my area

Prime Time Saturday is Cowboy Country on ION Television
The RHI Movie Weekend on ION to Feature World Premiere Westerns Plus Classic Encores During March And April
RHI Original Movies “Aces N’ Eights,” “Prairie Fever” and “Lone Rider” Set To Debut
NEW YORK -- RHI Entertainment is turning Saturday night into Western Night on the ION Television Network, in March and April, with original movies and classic encores airing in prime time.
Western Night kicks off with the world premiere of Aces N’ Eights (March 15, 9/8c), starring Casper Van Dien (RHI’s The Curse of King Tut’s Tomb, Sleepy Hollow, Starship Troopers), Bruce Boxleitner (Babylon 5, Gods and Generals) and Ernest Borgnine (Academy Award® winner Marty, The Wild Bunch, RHI’s A Grandpa For Christmas).
Hot on its heels is the world premiere of Prairie Fever (March 29, 9/8c), starring Kevin Sorbo (RHI's Avenging Angel, Hercules), Dominique Swain (Lolita), Jillian Armenante (Judging Amy), Felicia Day (Buffy, The Vampire Slayer) and Lance Henrickson (Aliens).
The trio of original world premiere westerns wraps up with Lone Rider (April 12, 9/8c), starring Lou Diamond Phillips (La Bamba, Numb3rs), Sam Bottoms (Seabiscuit, Shopgirl), Vincent Spano (Baby It’s You, Texas Ranger), and Stacy Keach (The Long Riders, Mike Hammer, Prison Break).
In addition to the world premieres, classic encores will include Ranger, Cook and the Hole in the Sky (March 22, 9/8c), Return to Lonesome Dove (April 5, 9/8c, April 12, 7/6c, April 19, and April 26, 9/8c) and Painted Hero (April 26, 7/6c).
“Everyone loves a good Western,” said Robert Halmi, Jr., President and CEO of RHI Entertainment. “These are timeless morality tales, where the good guys are always good and the bad guys are always bad. We are delighted to give this classic genre some well-deserved prime time exposure, courtesy of these exceptional films.”
“Western Night on ION promises our audiences non-stop adventure with the dreamers and desperados who built the American West,” said Brandon Burgess, Chairman and CEO, ION Media Networks. “Westerns are an ultra-hot genre right now, and we expect our audience to keep coming back for more thrilling Wild West action, week after week.”
ACES N’ EIGHTS (March 15, 9/8c)
In the rough and dangerous world of the frontier, aces and eights can foretell a man’s future. A rousing adventure of the men and women who made the West, Aces N’ Eights portrays an epic battle of the iron rail versus ranchers and farmers. The railroad is not about to let stubborn landowners stand in the way as it prepares to clear a last section of land for a new line. However, they’ve never come across a force of nature like Thurmond Prescott (Ernest Borgnine), who’s had his land for thirty years – and aims to keep it.
Aces N’ Eights was originally intended as a big screen vehicle for Clint Eastwood. Co-writer Dennis Shryack had already co-written Eastwood’s critical and box-office hit, Pale Rider. Instead, the Aces N’ Eights script remained untouched for more than two decades until RHI Entertainment, in connection with Larry Levinson Productions, moved forward to put the film into production.
Directed by Craig Baxley (The Triangle, Stephen King’s Red Rose), the television movie was written by Dennis Shryack and Ronald M. Cohen. Aces ‘N Eights is an RHI Entertainment presentation in association with Larry Levinson Productions, executive produced by Robert Halmi, Jr. and Larry Levinson, with James Wilberger (Black Widow, Sharpshooter, Final Approach) and Erik Heiberg (Black Widow) as producers.
PRAIRIE FEVER (March 29, 9/8c)
Preston Biggs (Kevin Sorbo) was once the law. That was before his wife died and grief drove him to the bottle. Now, he’s prone to whiskey-fueled fights like the one that just tore up a saloon and put him behind bars with a debt for the damage. The sheriff offers Preston a deal to pay it off—escort safely back to civilization three women suffering from “prairie fever”: Lettie (Jillian Armenante), stark-raving mad after having tried to kill her husband; Abigail (Dominique Swain), a whimpering new bride too young to handle harsh prairie life; and Blue (Felicia Day), a Bible-quoting farmer’s wife who just snapped one strange and violent night. For Preston, it’s going to be quite a trek.
Directed by David S. Cass (who also directed Lone Rider), the television movie is written by Steven H. Berman (Sharpshooter). Prairie Fever is an RHI Entertainment presentation in association with Larry Levinson Productions, executive produced by Robert Halmi, Jr. and Larry Levinson, with Lincoln Lageson (Crash and Burn) and Jeff Kloss (Deadly Suspicion) as producers.
LONE RIDER (April 12, 9/8c)
Honored soldier Bobby Hattaway (Lou Diamond Phillips) returns to his hometown of Pelton, Nevada, where a lot has changed since he left. He plans to settle down, but instead finds himself on a new battleground. He must face his boyhood friend (Vincent Spano), who is ruthlessly aiming to become the largest landowner in the county. As he battles this old friend turned new enemy, he engages in a life-and-death struggle to protect himself and his family—whatever the cost.
Directed by David S. Cass (RHI’s Avenging Angel), the television movie is written by Frank Sharp. Lone Rider is an RHI Entertainment presentation in association with Larry Levinson Productions, executive produced by Robert Halmi, Jr. and Larry Levinson, with Albert T. Dickerson III (RHI Entertainment’s Deadly Suspicion) serving as producer and Traceigh Scottel as co-producer on the project.
Aces N’ Eights was shot at the Big Sky Ranch in Simi Valley, California and nearby locations. Lone Rider and Prairie Fever were both shot at Golden Oaks Ranch, the Disney Studio’s movie ranch in the Placerita Canyon area of the Santa Clarita Valley, and in surrounding locations.

You never know when they'll launch the African-American block. But, it could only be likea 2 hour block, maybe even in daytime. Like I said before, it's too hard to tell at this point.
Mama's Family consistently does well in primetime - it could stay, or it could move to another slot. But, when they tried moving it to make room for Perfect Strangers, that obviously didn't turn out well. Again, too hard to say right now.

JulieSomoski 02-21-2008, 04:56 PM I want to see how Mama's Family does in the 10pm slot. My guess is the same as the Wonder Years and Who's the Boss
Who's the Boss? was lousy in the 10pm hour . . . we never knew how The Wonder Years was, though. WTB survived there for more than month. The Wonder Years survived there for like 6 months.
Well, TWY is more of a mature show than WTB?, I'm not surprised it did well there. WTB?'s ratings were sort of on the wane anyway before it moved, weren't they? I guess the move didn't help any..

They dropped a lot from the time it premiered to the time it was taken off. I would still like to know how TWY's ratings were at 10pm.
I think TWY would have done better if it was in an earlier slot - I think 10pm, same for WTB, was too late a timeslot for both shows.
I wonder how Drew's doing at 10pm.
TVFactFan 02-21-2008, 07:18 PM Who's the Boss? was lousy in the 10pm hour . . . we never knew how The Wonder Years was, though. WTB survived there for more than month. The Wonder Years survived there for like 6 months.
I'm just curious to see if the show would still perform if it was in a new slot that another show failed in.
Ireneparalegal 02-21-2008, 11:13 PM The following is still a long way away, so time expansion and more could be done way before this.
Ok, now I know why I had a hard time remembering where I read this, it is in the middle of this thread here. Here I was searching for a thread titled ION bringing M*A*S*H to its Fall schedule.
I would like to have seen how Designing Women would have done at 10 and 10:30 since it's a more mature show and The Wonder Years at 7 and 7:30. I'm guessing DW did OK, since it lasted a decent while. If they ever expand, I expect we'll see it back eventually...
Jude The Obscure 02-22-2008, 10:57 AM At least DW got a full cycle. Perfect Strangers never got that! If you're gonna put a show on, at least give it 1 run through. If the ratings stink after that, then pull it.
Scoobiedoo30 02-22-2008, 12:28 PM I forgot that Designing Women was on The Ion Schedule
JulieSomoski 02-22-2008, 05:38 PM I'm just curious to see if the show would still perform if it was in a new slot that another show failed in.
I think it would have done well in the 7pm hour. They should have swapped it with Designing Women when both shows were still airing. I'd like to see it come back, maybe if they add on the afternoon hours.
Designing Women was pretty much on the schedule, did well without much attention, and then quietly left. I don't understand why for some some shows ION makes a big fuss, but when they launch other shows, it could be days before when we find out about it.
Jude The Obscure 02-22-2008, 05:58 PM The constant promos for Drew Carey, Mama and Baywatch can be downright grating. I don't recall seeing Alice being promoted with the same fervor.
JulieSomoski 02-22-2008, 06:06 PM The constant promos for Drew Carey, Mama and Baywatch can be downright grating. I don't recall seeing Alice being promoted with the same fervor.
I will agree with you on this. I'm already sick of Baywatch, and it hasn't even premiered yet! When they start airing the same commericials on every single commercial break, you have no choice but to change the channel.
TVFactFan 02-22-2008, 07:42 PM The constant promos for Drew Carey, Mama and Baywatch can be downright grating. I don't recall seeing Alice being promoted with the same fervor.
I was going to ask someone was there a lot of hype about Alice coming to ION like it was for Drew Carey. I always wondered that
re: roseanne88-97....yeah, Designing Women had a nice, solid run. I think they got through the whole series, didn't move it around, didn't push it on everyone with promos....sort of like Alice. The perfect way shows should be rotated in and out of the schedule. I don't think DW got much promotion at all.
They did promo overkill with WTB? back in July and August...
Jude The Obscure 02-23-2008, 03:05 AM There was some DW promotion such as "Designing Women's thoughts on men" with Mary Jo and Suzanne making cracks, but nowhere NEAR the promos we have seen for Drew Carey or Baywatch!

Pavan 03-06-2008, 02:08 PM Save the Date: ION Media Networks to Host Upfront Presentation May 1
Programming Showcase to be Held at the New York Public Library
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- ION Media Networks, Inc. announced today that it will display its new programming and marketing initiatives for the 2008-2009 television season at its second annual Upfront sales presentation. The event, aimed at the advertising community, will be held on the evening of Thursday, May 1st at the New York Public Library.
“We’re looking forward to telling the story of ION Television to the advertising community,” said Stephen Appel, President, Sales and Marketing. “Our new Fall lineup is going to be a place we think advertisers will want to have their products showcased.”
ION Television recently announced it will be adding the hit series “Boston Legal” to its Fall 2008 primetime lineup. Also coming to the network will be the timeless comedic drama, “M*A*S*H.”
ION Television already has made some significant additions to its primetime schedule in 2008, launching the beloved sitcom, “The Drew Carey Show,” on New Year’s Day, and debuting the multi-generational TV staple, “Baywatch,” earlier this week. Original movies from RHI Entertainment, such as “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and “Aces ‘N Eights,” set to premiere March 15th, also have contributed to the increased excitement at the network in the first quarter of the year.

Someone needs to buyout ION altogether, because ION Media is not using their flagship channel/network to their full advantage. what is the point of all these digital subchannels such as IonLife and Qubo if they can't even program the flagship decently???
friendsfan77 03-06-2008, 05:32 PM There was some DW promotion such as "Designing Women's thoughts on men" with Mary Jo and Suzanne making cracks, but nowhere NEAR the promos we have seen for Drew Carey or Baywatch!
I love DCS but I do agree they've gone overboard with promotion. What happened to all shows getting equal promotional air-time? It can't be that hard since they only have 5 hours of programming a day.
mgsports 03-06-2008, 08:50 PM Theirs Product Information Network for Informaticals.
The City that you get your IONTV from should be able to pick what Local/S. Programming it puts on their but leave 6:30pm American News,7am to 9am Daily Buzz,8pm to 10pm Prime Time Programming,Weekend Afternoon Sporting Events.
It's Sub channels aren't available on all Cable Systems yet.
TVFactFan 03-06-2008, 08:58 PM I mean is anyone really surprised? Firebrand aired at 11pm and we all know that timeslot is just TOO COMPETITIVE no matter what ION puts in that slot. So ION did the right thing, they put something in that slot that they KNOW won't do well-LOL
JulieSomoski 03-07-2008, 06:16 PM What the hell is up with more infomercials? They're making new acquisitions, bringing in new initiatives, with a whole library of classic shows to air. You'd think the first step would be to add on an hour or two. I guess with ION, the first step is to add more infomercials-LOL
Jude The Obscure 03-07-2008, 07:19 PM It would be nice if someone from ION would just be straight up with the viewers--"Hi, we all know you are interested when ION is going to expand. Our contracts with informercial suppliers runs through _____ 200_. After this time, we will begin adding more programming hours starting with an afternoon block and eventually a morning block. We hope you understand in these days of economic necessity, we will not be able to be fully informercial free, but we will try our best to keep at least 12-18 hours a day devoted to entertaining you with both classic and contemporary programming." Wouldn't that be nice to hear?? :D
TVFactFan 03-07-2008, 07:47 PM I want to know why the hell is the wayans brothers being shown on Friday Night and no other Sitcom??
It's shouldn't be NO SITCOMS
blairjotootienat 03-08-2008, 03:18 PM who cares about what shows they are putting on? why doesnt anybody care about the comapany bribing mccain or using the pax jet to fly terrorists out of the country after 9/11?
i do wish nick@nite would run more sitcoms though, and it would be nice if tv land aired more recent sitcoms.
JulieSomoski 03-09-2008, 04:12 PM I want to know why the hell is the wayans brothers being shown on Friday Night and no other Sitcom??
It's shouldn't be NO SITCOMS
I know - I'd rather see a different sitcom on Friday nights instead of just Wayans Bros. It's bad enough we get it during the week. They should air a sitcom that's not on during the week, like Who's the Boss?, Growing Pains, or The Wonder Years.

Remember when ION first started and how they would stuff like Monkees, Welcome Back Kotter, Partridge Family, etc on Fridays? At least that was variety and a reason to look forward to Fridays. These people listen too much to demographics for that younger hipper audience. Everyone knows that the real money is with the boomers and the soon next in age--the busters (otherwise Gen X'ers). Why not program towards them?. At least American Life gets that angle. So does Retro TV Network.

wait.....does this mean that Baywatch has BOMBED on ION???
Pavan 03-10-2008, 01:13 PM Likely, but I won't comment until I see April because this could be for these 2 days only (though I doubt it).
Wow-I'm surprised- I thought Baywatch would have done well for them. What a waste of money though, just like 48 Hours which is now gone. They have to acquire this special programming instead of sticking to Sony/Warner/Universal....and they both bombed. I bet we'll never see the paid programming gone now - they probably forked a lot out for Baywatch...
Hmm....could DC be holding the 10-11pm hour or 9-10pm temporarily for a new show coming in April? I find it hard to believe they'd air 2 hours of it all month
Pavan 03-10-2008, 01:23 PM 48 Hours is on Sundays still when this change happens. Currently it is Sat-Sun at 6pm.
friendsfan77 03-10-2008, 01:35 PM I feel bad for the Baywatch fans. That show hadn't been seen in a while, and it should have been given at least one complete run. It's only been a week, and they want to get rid of it already?
Pavan 03-10-2008, 01:36 PM Yeah, if they do remove it, they made the decision after just four airings. If they wanted to remove it ASAP, why not just now? Weird.
Well....almost everything ION does is weird, lol.
I have a feeling we'll be seeing a new show in April..
TVJunkie101 03-10-2008, 05:42 PM I just don't get ION. Weird network. So much potential but yet IMO, they're sucking.
TVFactFan 03-10-2008, 06:59 PM i said 3 weeks ago that baywatch was suited a saturday evening and not a 10pm slot during the week-lol maybe someone at ION saw that post
VisualSensation 03-10-2008, 08:05 PM I'd like to know who watches those gawd aweful RHI movies they put on Fridays and the weekend. You would think 80's sitcoms would pull in at LEAST the same kinds of numbers as that stuff...
Also, if they were introducing a new sitcom for the 10PM slot, wouldn't they be promoting it to death already?
ilovethe80s 03-11-2008, 11:37 AM I agree ION seems to be getting stranger and nothing against Drew Carey or anything but having it for two hours is a lot in my opinion but I guess they can't find another show. I guess it must be getting good ratings. I remember when ION had the thing to vote on the website I wonder if that will come back again because that way maybe they could get new shows and see what viewers want.
Jude The Obscure 03-11-2008, 11:51 AM Drew Carey ran for what, 9 seasons? (not sure, it seemed like it did). Going through 2 hours, 4 times a week will ensure that it at least gets through one cycle. I did not see that happening with Baywatch (of course, I'm sure Ion bought the 125-127 episode package that mainly featured the Pamela Anderson era). Course this is a strange programming strategy. Did the recent two week stunt of Drew Carey for 2 hours a night do better than Ion expected and once they saw the non-interest in Baywatch, decided to go back to that plan?
chris31989 03-11-2008, 12:06 PM Why not just EXPAND? ION reminds me of a small test channel that runs programs and sees how they do. Then, they vanish after not even a full cycle run. Then another show comes on and is placed around Mama's Family, which is the permanent show for the channel (I do love Mama though). It's sad but true. ION should be RTC: The Ratings Testing Channel.

A lot of us here have been asking that for a very long time.
alevin7 03-11-2008, 03:55 PM I think that the reason why they don't expand their programming is because they don't want to lose money. I believe that if they could expand their programming, they would have already, but can't because of financial reasons. I called ION Television a couple months ago and asked the girl the same question and she said, "We are always looking into different ways to expand our programming." That sounds like they want to do it, but can't right now. What do you guys think?
JulieSomoski 03-11-2008, 04:49 PM Solomon, you're definitely right: Baywatch is a weekend show. It's definitely not a show that's suited for late primetime like 10pm. 5 or 6pm on a Saturday afternoon would probably get it higher ratings than at 10pm on a weeknight.
I can't believe they've decided to remove the show after just 4 airings. It must have bombed pretty badly, but like Pavan said, not badly enough if it's still gonna be around until the 29th. I wonder what the exact ratings for.
I guess this is also good news for Drew Carey. If they're replacing Baywatch, a show they spent a lot of money on just to air on their network, with The Drew Carey Show, it must be doing great.

JulieSomoski 03-20-2008, 03:20 PM damm that sounds like ION@NITE
lol
LOL - That's what they should start calling themselves.
Since April 7 and on hasn't been announced yet, they're probably planning on airing something else soon enough. Either that, or waiting to see how Drew does at 10pm.
I'm sure Drew will be staying, but it wouldnt surprise me if something else airs from 9-10 or 10-11. But what though? Seems we would have heard and they'd be promoting it by now.
Jude The Obscure 03-20-2008, 03:39 PM They are still promoting Baywatch like crazy, so I wonder what gives? if they are pulling Baywatch, why still promote it when fans thinking it is on every weeknight will find themselves very disappointed!

Pavan 03-20-2008, 07:55 PM While the schedule they sent us was through April 6, I hear they are making a lot of changes. We could even see the changes start April 1 now. I hope to have this for you all tomorrow, so please stay tuned to the blog. And here on the General Sitcoms board via the April thread. Pray for expansion!
Scoobiedoo30 03-20-2008, 08:28 PM hey if you say they are lot's of changes I wonder if they could be adding more Hours to the schedule.
Let's hope for expansion....because they are at an all-time low right now, IMO. Nothing really exciting on the schedule except maybe Alice. Wonder what could be coming.....I find it hard to believe that they haven't started promoting the new shows, if any are coming. Wonder if they're bringing some previous shows back like Growing Pains, Green Acres, Amen, Charlies Angels that aren't really 'new.'
Scoobiedoo30 03-20-2008, 09:11 PM idf they are expending the schedule how should the schedule be
mgsports 03-20-2008, 09:28 PM I hope they expand from 12 Noon to 12am with Game Shows,Local Newscast and shows like Major Dad,C. Explains it all,S. Ward that use to be on ABC and so on.
Scoobiedoo30 03-20-2008, 09:34 PM maybe 24 Hours if the schedule is 11:00 sm until 12:00 pm what show's could air from 11:00 am until 11:00 pm Central Time.
Jude The Obscure 03-20-2008, 10:30 PM I sure hope they allow Alice to finish its run. I so want to see the final episode again--haven't seen it since the original primetime airing!
Scoobiedoo30 03-20-2008, 10:31 PM I think Alice will be on The April Schedule
Are the changes still on? According to their website, from 4/1-4/3 the schedule consisting of Wayans, Alice, Mama, and 4x Drew Carey will air on those days..
Scoobiedoo30 03-21-2008, 02:50 PM Pavan said lot's of changes.
Pavan 03-21-2008, 03:01 PM The schedule on their website and TV listings have the same grid thru 4/6 that we received last week or so. They still haven't released the April changes. I was hoping today (still time though).
BTW, ION will finally be able to speak to us for an interview after their May 1 upfront. So, it looks like they are all set as a network because they didn't want to discuss anything with us until everything was set.

I'm thinking it won't be a huge change . . . possibly a few shifts in the schedule, and maybe something new in the 10pm hour. Or, they could just leave it the same as is now. You really can't predict with ION.
I just noticed something. On ION's schedule, for the week of 3/31, in the 10pm hour, they are airing random episodes of Drew Carey. They're going in order with season 5 in the 9pm hour, but at 10pm Monday and Tuesday it's season 2 episodes, and Wednesday it's season 3 episodes. Not sure why.
Pavan 03-21-2008, 04:59 PM A change will for sure happen in April. April 1 or 7 or whenever, but it is happening. It has not been announced though.
I wonder what the change could be....maybe a return of Designing Women, The Wonder Years, or Who's the Boss?? All three had decent runs on the network. Seems to me if it was a brand new show we would have heard it by now and would be seeing promotion on-air.
Knowing ION, though, it'll probably be a rotation of Diagnosis Murder, Doc, and Sue Thomas: FBEye, LOL.
I wish they'd bring Green Acres back. It had a pretty decent run and it was nice to see some older programming along with 70s and 80s. Wasn't it dropped when it went to ION Television, or did it still air for a while? It primarily aired when it was i, I believe. I also miss when they aired some different older shows on Friday nights.

Let's hope it is not any of the old PAX stalwarts--those things have been reran to death!
In any case, let's hope it is that finally make wise use of the Sony & Warner libraries that they have access to!
Pavan 03-21-2008, 06:05 PM Well if it's not an acquisition, I don't think they would need much promotion (only major stuff like 48 Hours, Baywatch, Drew Carey got the big press release and promos...shows like Perfect Strangers, Who's the Boss?, never got that). I do hope they bring back series like Wonder Years and Perfect Strangers. I'm hoping for a daytime block. If not in April, I'll certainly ask them in the interview when they are planning one or any additional hours.
chris31989 03-21-2008, 08:21 PM Maybe since they are talking on April 7, and haven't promoted anything, these "changes" will not take place until late April/early May. For sure, 99%, the 10PM hour will be filled with either one new or returning show. I'm saving 1% for if I'm wrong, because it's possible. At least a 3-11PM block would be nice. They do it on Friday with Qubo. Even 12noon. The first three hours could be dramas, the next three sitcoms, and the rest whatever they decide.
Many may not agree, but I'm glad Mama's Family is still on. I've seen the episodes millions of times, but it cheers me up. That's all I watch. Drew Carey I watch at random.
LeeBlue 03-21-2008, 11:11 PM Perfect Strangers should have another run -- maybe it didn't do well in the ratings because it didn't have much of a promotion -- I'd love to see more episodes!!
I'm very curious about their April - May line-up.
Big C 03-22-2008, 01:57 AM I have a fading memory of Baywatch, but I had a mild interest until Yasmine showed up.
BTW, she's in my new avatar (I'm not an Atheist. I adored many other TV women besides Step By Step's Angela.)
JulieSomoski 03-22-2008, 05:40 PM Well if it's not an acquisition, I don't think they would need much promotion (only major stuff like 48 Hours, Baywatch, Drew Carey got the big press release and promos...shows like Perfect Strangers, Who's the Boss?, never got that). You're not the only one, Pavan. Changes need to be made. A daytime block and more hours are long overdue by now. For now, I have a feeling the 10pm hour will be filled with a returning show, possibly Perfect Strangers. They already tried Who's the Boss and The Wonder Years at 10pm, so I don't think they'd do it again (although, I'd like to see them do it).
Well I guess it doesn't really have to be a new show from 10-11, it could be that DC stays from 10-11 and the new show from 9-10. I have NO idea what it could be though....Charlie's Angels? lol.
I don't see them returning Perfect Strangers to primetime. Maybe if they expand in the daytime or afternoon, but not primetime..
VisualSensation 03-22-2008, 11:40 PM Don't forget that at one time PAX had a daytime lineup in the mid to late 90's. Love Boat, The Hogan Family, and Eight is Enough were part of the lineup. Evidently the ratings were miniscule and infomericals bring in more revenue, so it's going to be difficult for them to justify going back to real programming.
I still think the only real hope lies in the digital subchannels, which they hint at in their recent press releases. I can easily see 80's sitcoms performing better there than the current programming (Ion Health, Qubo, Worship...take your pick)

But what good are the subchannels when the flagship channel, the one most people have access to, isn't up to par with a full day of programming?
VisualSensation 03-23-2008, 09:48 AM But what good are the subchannels when the flagship channel, the one most people have access to, isn't up to par with a full day of programming?
That is already currently the case. Ion Life shows programs that are health-based, or how-to programs dealing with gardening or healthy cooking. qubo shows cartoons that NBC also shows on Saturday mornings. There are no infomericals on either sub-channel that I'm aware of, but rather regular commericals you see on the major networks. You would THINK that either of these programming line ups would do better (revenue wise) than wall-to-wall infomercials on the flagship channel, but they evidently don't, because these subchannels have been configured this way for at least the past two year.
The simple fact is that the vast majority of 80's and prior sitcoms have proven to have very little replay value this day and age on the big networks. That's why Nick at Night and TV Land have gradually shifted away from these programs to standby's that are grossly overplayed but bring in bigger ratings.
Digital subchannels offer the ability to show niche programming, since it costs the TV station very little extra to put it on the air, which greatly lowers the amount of advertising revenue (and therefore ratings) needed to make it profitable. Old sitcoms would fit perfectly in this type of situation.
Jude The Obscure 03-23-2008, 02:20 PM Heck, I could stand ION more if part of its programming day was devoted to programming featured on the subchannels.
Any news on ION April? Should we expect it this week?
Pavan 03-24-2008, 05:18 PM Nothing yet. And for sure this week, as I hinted at the end of Sunday's blog. They just have haven't released it yet to us or any TV listings.

They've never been this late with their monthly schedules before. It obviously must be something big then, right?
Pavan 03-24-2008, 05:41 PM I hope so...and these changes just happened, so it was not planned originally, obviously.
Jude The Obscure 03-24-2008, 05:57 PM *has fingers crossed that it is something good* :cheer:
Hopefully an expanson incluing the hours 3-6PM and 11PM-12AM...I've always found it odd that they don't just program 6PM-12AM. Why not include the 11PM-12AM hour? Doesn't make much sense.

I agree. They had the TimeLife specials there for awhile, then Firebrand (which both made some sense), but now all they have there is regular infomercials. The least they could do is expand to midnight.
Jude The Obscure 03-25-2008, 12:03 PM If they must have informercials for the extra revenue--why not program 12noon-12 midnight for programs and use 12 midnight-12 noon for those informercials?
Scoobiedoo30 03-25-2008, 12:10 PM I agree with you Regural Programming from 11:00 am until 11:00 pm Central Time and Paid Programming from 11:00 pm until 11:00 am Central Time
Pavan 03-25-2008, 01:18 PM Still nothing on the ION schedule...hopefully later today. I agree 12pm-12am would be great. I have some ideas:
Primetime Soaps in the Daytime
12pm Dallas
1pm Knots Landing
2pm Falcon Crest
Family Friendly Sitcoms
3:00pm Who's the Boss?
3:30pm The Facts of Life
4:00pm Perfect Strangers
4:30pm Alice or Silver Spoons
5:00pm Growing Pains
5:30pm The Wonder Years
African American Initiative
6:00pm Amen
6:30pm Wayans Bros.
7:00pm Jamie Foxx Show
7:30pm Jamie Foxx Show
Primetime
8:00pm Mama's Family
8:30pm Mama's Family
9:00pm Drew Carey Show
9:30pm Drew Carey Show
10:00pm Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman
11:00pm Baywatch
Hopefully ION thinks of something like this. I don't care if the expansion is adding 3-6pm, at least it will be something more.
I checked iOnline.tv and it lists Wayans Bros. and Alice as airing in their current slots on 4/7 (Mon), but everything else after that is unavailable. With paid programming airing the rest of the day....maybe the changes are going to be between 8PM and 12AM?
Scoobiedoo30 03-25-2008, 01:34 PM This is what I am thinking
at 11:00 am Falcon Crest
at 12:00 pm Dallas
at 1:00 pm Knots Landing
at 2:00 pm Silver Spoons
at 2:30 pm The Wonder Year's
at 3:00 pm Who's The Boss?
at 3:30 pm Alice
at 4:00 pm Facts of Life
at 4:30 pm Perfect Strangers
at 5:00 pm Amen
at 5:30 pm The Jamie Foxx Show
at 6:00 pm The Wayne Bros
at 6:30 pm The Wayne Bros
at 7:00 pm Growing Pains
at 7:30 pm Growing Pains
at 8:00 pm Mama's Family
at 8:00 pm Mama's Family
at 9:00 pm Lois and Clark The Adventure of Superman
at 10:00 pm Baywatch.

I think I said this before but that doesn't mean anything with Wayans and Alice being listed. They have not given out 4/7 and on to any listings yet and I bet you the listings have no episode info for Wayans and Alice because it is just a stubb schedule. Check TVGuide.com and it will say Baywatch at 10PM on 4/7, which is wrong.
Scoobiedoo30 03-25-2008, 02:19 PM what does Stubb Schedule mean

Just found it odd that Wayans and Alice are listed but Mama and DC are not.
I hope they're re-working the whole schedule..
Pavan 03-25-2008, 02:44 PM Probably an error on their website. Check the actual TitanTV.com (that is what ION uses on their website) and it might list the whole night, which is a stubb schedule. Stubb means a generic schedule.
Jude The Obscure 03-25-2008, 02:51 PM In any case, their website has a slightly different design that actually includes show promos, including one for Alice! (and it features scenes from season 1)
Pavan 03-25-2008, 03:00 PM They've had that design and promos for months now.
Pavan 03-25-2008, 03:03 PM Just got word Family Feud (probably the current version) is joining ION starting April 7. More soon.
Jude The Obscure 03-25-2008, 03:04 PM Well it wasn't like that the other day when I went, so sue me.
Jude The Obscure 03-25-2008, 03:05 PM oh my, back to the old game show routine? I wouldn't mind that if it mean expansion, but if means replacing our sitcoms, then BOOOOOOO!
icecream 03-25-2008, 03:12 PM I'd really like to see Early Edition and The Wonder Years return to ION.
Scoobiedoo30 03-25-2008, 03:14 PM Yall forgetting about Diagnosis Murder
Pavan 03-25-2008, 03:14 PM Hopefully it does mean more hours, but I have no idea right now. Stay tuned for an April thread and more on our blog. Check today's blog for Family Feud (WHICH NOW WE HAVE CONFIRMED IT IS THE O'HURLEY CURRENT VERSION):
http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2008/03/fox-cancels-jezebel-james-ion-picks-up.html
Family Feud apparently always did well for this network, because it aired a long time and even when PAX went to 'i', it continued. It'd be nice at 5 and 5:30 or something like that. Maybe an expansion is coming soon....
Wonder if Diagnosis Murder is coming back - LOL
Scoobiedoo30 03-25-2008, 03:22 PM are yall saying that they are going to have Game Show's
Jude The Obscure 03-25-2008, 04:05 PM Family Feud apparently always did well for this network, because it aired a long time and even when PAX went to 'i', it continued. It'd be nice at 5 and 5:30 or something like that. Maybe an expansion is coming soon....

BITE YOUR TONGUE!
if there's one show that does not NEED to return....
let it go to A&E or whatnot.
Pavan 03-25-2008, 04:22 PM OK...ION April is in...we do get a bit of an expansion...it is a start, though! Go discuss that here:
