View Full Version : I feel so old!
treky 01-27-2008, 11:00 PM my 16 year old nephew and me were playing a trivia quiz on his fathers (my brother-in-laws) I-pod this afternoon. The catagory was "Entertainment" and one of the questions was "how were Jethro Bodine and Elly May Clampett related"-and he (my nephew) had never heard of them!
Then I told him that they were in "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES"-and he didn't know what that is! He said "Is that a TV show, or a movie, or something"?
Now I KNOW I'm old!:( :(
Mr. Television 01-27-2008, 11:01 PM That's the modern generation for you.
Mikado 01-27-2008, 11:39 PM Reminds me of something that happened herein Canada some time ago; a bunch of schoolkids were asked "Who was John A MacDonald?" (Canadas first Prime Minister) and 90% of the children identified him as the creator of a certain chain of restaurants! (Since that time, history classes have been reinstated in Canadian schools)

Actually Ray Kroc founded McDonald's systems incorporated in 1955. It originally began as a barbecue restaurant in San Bernadino, CA in the mid 40's owned by Mac and Dick McDonald. If you'd like to know more, here's a link that lays out the story of how McDonald's came to be.

treky 01-28-2008, 01:09 AM reminds me of the time I was talking to a guy I used to work with, and I mentioned the show "MASH" which was still airing on CBS at the time. (it was in its last season) This guy was in his 40s; and he had never HEARD of it!!!
Somewhere on here, there's a post from someone who said they were talking to someone about TV once; and when they mentioned "I LOVE LUCY" & "ALL IN THE FAMILY" the person had never heard of either one.
Also, my brother who's 51, didn't know there's a writers strike on, until I told him today.

She had never seen or even heard about the original Charlie's Angels.

When Andy Williams passed away in Sept. and they talked about his variety show in the 60's and I remembered it, that made me feel old.
liane49 03-14-2013, 12:52 PM yea he used to own the S.D. Padres baseball team.
I was around 7 or 8 when the Hillbillies first started. I don't remember watching it then but I watched it evey week in the later years and was upset when it went off the air.

It is the same here in the US. Kids in preschool are taught songs to sing the praises of Barack Obama, all the while, they are taught little else. Most kids graduating high school can't even formulate complete sentences, balance checkbook or even tell you who George Washington was. Unbelievable....
treky 03-14-2013, 06:08 PM and some of them can't even make change for a 10 or a 20.

Talking about the guy you worked for who never herd of Mash. I have a penpal and I was talking to her about Beyonce and she said, I've herd of her but don't really know who she is. I thought that was odd and maybe she didn't watch TV. I told her she's the biggest thing in R&B music and is married to Jay-Z and their child Blue Ivy was born last year.
Frump 10-29-2013, 12:46 PM There are younger ppl who don't even know who Dick Van Dyke is, it REALLY makes me mad!!!!
I was born like right between generation, I know things about the older generation and the newer.
I remember on a game show they had older ppl and younger ppl, asking them question about eachother's generation, and I knew ALL of them LOL
I know who Peggy Lee is and who Mutt and Jeff were AND I know what "sexting" means lol
comedyfreak 11-03-2013, 09:11 AM It makes me feel old when kids don't know who Barney Rubble is, some think it's the purple Dinosaur.
