View Full Version : Characters who had trouble getting dates?

Some characters who had trouble getting dates made no sense to me because they were really attractive. These come to mind...

Rebecca Howe on Cheers. She was always on the prowl for a husband.

Reggie on Becker. She was a knockout, yet it was a running joke on the show that she couldn't get a date.

Helen on Wings. Simply adorable, but had trouble finding Mr. Right.

For men, Bob on Becker, but he was crazy, so it made sense.

Cliff Clavin on Cheers was a lonely guy.

I never understood how they made Rebecca look like this female who could not get a date. Here was this gorgeous businesswoman....uh, there it is, the guys were intimidated by her. Oh well, their loss. :snob:

Rhoda (when she was on the MTM Show) spent a lot of Saturday nights alone. That was sort of a running joke.

To the person who mentioned Helen on Wings - I'm not sure I agree w/ that. She dated Joe for quite awhile, then there was Davis Lynch, and in between there were a couple other guys. If anyone on the show had trouble dating, I'd prob. say Antonio.

Dorothy Spornack from The Golden Girls
Iola Boylan from Mama's Family
Aunt Fran from Mama's Family
Mouth McFadden from One Tree Hill (I know. Not a sitcom, but true)

By all means, dramas are fine. I never specified only sitcoms. I just couldn't think of a drama character to list, so thanks. :)

Definitely Antonio. He was enough to make a person cry, lol. I mentioned Helen. It just seemed to me, that although she had her share of dates, that nothing seemed to work out for her. It was all sort of tied into her diner thing, and having no luck getting her career off the ground. She often complained about all that, her unhappiness in general. I was happy when she ended up with Joe, and used to wish it would just happen, but that would have made for a dull show, lol. The sexual tension between them was necessary. Sort of like Sam and Diane on Cheers.

Actually Newman was quite the ladies man - Babs (Cosmo's mother), supermodel from a birthday wish, one of Jerry's former girlfriend, etc.

True, but not compared to Jerry/George/Elaine having a girlfriend/boyfriend basically every episode , even though they were all weird

The first season- the episode -The Girls Want to go to a Nightclub, Fred and Ethel's anniversary, Fred and Ricky want to go to the fights, Lucy and Ethel want to go to the Copa - they threaten that they will find their own dates to take them - Lucy goes through her entire blackbook and could not find a date.

Regina, on The Steve Harvey Show. She was smokin' hot, but was always complaining about how she couldn't land a boyfriend. She'd get one here and there, but not often.

Leonard, Sheldon, Howard & Raj from The Big Bang Theory have quite a bit of trouble with the dating scene.

Well, Carlton from "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" actually had a lot of dates over the six year run of the show. He didn't have a girl in almost every episode though, like Will did, and compared to him, he was a loser in that department. But one girl at a time is enough, isn't it? And he managed to get dates to a lot of dances and the prom. And does everybody have to be like Will? I would take Carlton instead of Will any day.

Steve Urkel also had the adorable Myra Mounkhouse, who he had to jilt as soon as the bitch Laura beckoned him with her little finger.

Joey had no trouble getting dates..neither did Phoebe...in the beginning Chandler and Monica had trouble getting dates...Rachel never had a problem but her mind kept wondering back to the great love of her life...Ross would get dates but then have a dry spell and then get a date and do something stupid on them like wear leather pants that dont fit or bleach his teeth for a girl. ..
Will Truman also had man problems...
Joey 's nephew Michael on Joey and Howie also had problems getting dates
George Costanza on Seinfeld too..actually also Jerry had his share of women problems

Definitely Antonio from Wings, which I never could understand because he really was a sweetie.

Radar from MASH couldn't always find a date either.
