After months of speculation and rumor, the Kids are coming back. A well-placed source tells PEOPLE exclusively that New Kids On The Block are indeed getting back together.

The band's Web site, www.nkotb.com, which had been dormant, is now back up and running in anticipation of the official announcement, which the source says will be made in the next few weeks.

The site currently features a television graphic with a fuzzy, flickering photos of NKOTB in their heyday, and a link inviting fans to sign up for info.

The boy band, which made legions of tweens swoon in the early '90s, selling more than 50 million albums, became a worldwide phenomenon before calling it quits in 1994.

Eighteen years later, they're still "Hangin' Tough." The oldest "Kid," Jonathan Knight, now a real estate developer, will turn 40 later this year. Since the band's demise, former members Donnie Wahlberg, 38, and Joey McIntyre, 35, have seen acting success, while Danny Wood, 38, has worked as a music producer and Knight's brother, Jordan, 37, has continued to record.

why now? They were so opposed to a reunion in the late 90's when a NKOTB comeback would've been successful.

I feel like everything old is new again - first the news that my 10-year high school reunion is in July, and now this.  Are ALL of them coming back for this - even Donnie Wahlberg??

I don't think there's a lot of money in a NKOTB reunion in 2008 though. There was a demand for a reunion tour around 1998-1999 when BSB and N'Sync were huge (and Jordan Knight and Joey McIntyre both scored top 10 solo hits), but right now the boyband thing is deader than ever before, with Justin Timberlake ashamed of his N'Sync past (N'Sync still owes Jive another studio album, but Justin has obviously never heard of Phil Collins, Stevie Nicks, Rob Thomas or Gwen Stefani, who've all balanced solo and band careers) and Backstreet Boys being dropped by their label.

I remember being five or six when they first came out and even at that age I realized how badly they sucked. TERRIBLE.

It irks me when people tend to place them in the category as *NSYNC or BSB. (Who in my opinion actually had a credible amount of talent and originality.)

you are aware that Jordan Knight and Joey McIntyre's brief comeback successes in 1999 was based on the N'Sync/BSB thing, right?

Justin himself isn't exactly that proud of N'Sync, you don't see him performing any of their songs in concert these days besides Gone and I think he'd rather eat broken glass than go out onstage with Joey, Lance, JC and Chris ever again. I have to admit I think he's a bit of a douche for that, because Gwen and Rob have both done solo careers yet didn't forget they were part of a group as well, whereas Justin effectively killed four other careers because of his ego.

I think they are best left in the past and a comeback tour will be embarassing, but IMO, "(You Got It) The Right Stuff" is just as good as the best of what the boybands ten years later were recording. It's just easier to defend BSB and N'Sync because they were your teen years and NKOTB were before that.

^ I agree with "The Right Stuff" - I have that song on a compilation CD of teen acts from the late 80s/early 90s, and the song still holds up today. I admit to also still liking "Please Don't Go Girl" and "I'll Be Loving You Forever" - but the rest of the stuff - eeech.

I hated their ballads. The other song I kind of liked was "Tonight", which was their attempt at trying to be psychedelic and came out right as people were sick of them, but it holds up much better than most of their other hits

I can't believe this I mean i'm surprised that they are doing this. They were very popular when i was like 7 or something and I used to like them then.
