View Full Version : Solomon's Weekly Rant (1/26/08) Discussion: Sick of Seacrest; Flavor Flav; Sony DVDs TJ 01-26-2008, 02:58 PM Please read: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/blog/2008/01/mini-dvd-review-pioneers-of-television.html ...then discuss. clarkkent 01-26-2008, 04:22 PM Right on Soloman!!! I can't stand American Idol or Ryan Seacrest and I don't wish to see him everytime I turn on the tv. I even saw him in a mouthwash advertisement with my sunday coupons. Enough already!!! I really do hope that season 2 of 227 will be released some time this year. That show is hilarious and I can't understand why more people don't buy it. It is relatively inexpensive (cheaper than the other crap they release) and it deserves a second season release more than stupid Barney Miller does. JulieSomoski 01-26-2008, 04:24 PM Good rant Solomon! I hate Seacrest just as much as you do. The guy seems to be everyone, but I don't know how. I guess we can blame FOX for this one . . . they probably no he'd work for anything. And I'm with you on Sony. 4 years seems to be there thing. It was 4 years for Barney Miller, and 4 years for Mad About You. Looks like 2008 is the year for Who's the Boss? and 227-LOL. But, I'm not a fan of BM, so it makes me angry to see BM get another release, while much better shows like WTB and 227 don't. joefriday 01-26-2008, 04:25 PM I agree. I want to complete my All In The Family collection on DVD! JulieSomoski 01-26-2008, 04:26 PM I agree. I want to complete my All In The Family collection on DVD! Looks like we'll have to wait until 2010 to do that. Dean Winchester 01-26-2008, 04:27 PM I don't like Barney Miller any more than you do, but still.... I thought you'd be happy they revisited Barney Miller after four years! That gives other "abandoned" shows hope. I know you don't like the show, and I don't care for it either, but it's fans deserved more than a half-season that apparently was different than the rest of the show. There are Sony shows I like and ones I dislike, but seeing a show that looked dead on arrival getting another season gives me hope for other shows like 227 and Diff'rent Strokes. Think objectively, even if it's a show you hate, it's still great to see it getting revived after so many years, it makes other shows more likely to come back. Plus, remember Barney Miller is nowhere to be seen in syndication right now, let the fans have another season TVFactFan 01-26-2008, 04:48 PM I don't like Barney Miller any more than you do, but still.... His face is on COUPONS TOO??? tanquant 01-26-2008, 05:04 PM :clap I am so tired of looking at Ryan Seacrest I can't stand it anymore. Who was he before American Idol? I would love to have the rest of the seasons of Different Strokes. Ireneparalegal 01-26-2008, 05:11 PM I hear that Solomon. I am so sick of Ryan Seacrest's name and face. He has a radio show in Los Angeles. He took over one of the morning radio shows. Knowing that fool has his mug everywhere is just annoying. Ryan this and Ryan that...gimme a break here. His mug pops up EVERYWHERE. Has he done the Victoria Secrets lingerie show yet? Will he get his own game show? I wish American Idol would go away...FAST! catlover79 01-26-2008, 10:29 PM Hey, hey, hey...you guys are dissing my show (Barney Miller)!! I do agree, though, that it would be nice to see Season 2 of 227...I recently viewed the first season and really enjoyed it. Now, let's get Season 4 of Facts of Life released, too!! I too am sick of Ryan Seacrest - he's everywhere, and won't go away!!!  Help!! Mr. Television 01-26-2008, 10:36 PM another reason for me not to watch the SB pre-game show. TVFactFan 01-26-2008, 11:18 PM I hear that Solomon. I am so sick of Ryan Seacrest's name and face. I wish American Idol would go away...FAST! He needs a woman, too many media responsibilities-lol PlayOn 01-27-2008, 01:16 AM I don't really have a problem with Seacrest. I mean I wish he wasn't on AI talking to people as they go in (which I don't really get) but I watch to vote for the next Carrie Underwood (meaning big star), not to see him. Having his own show on radio show is over the top, tho. Don't get me started on Sony. Aren't they the people that put FOL on DVD? If they are, I know alot of people on the FOL board who would be happy to throw a bomb at the studio. Alot of AITF fans as well, like myself. What also makes me mad is there lack of extras. We pay nearly 20 bucks for a show (sometimes more) and the only extras are promos and a little friggin' booklet that tells what the episodes are. Season 2 of AITF had one, anyway. :soapbox: I never saw BM so I don't have a dog in that race. Ireneparalegal 01-27-2008, 01:17 AM GIMME ALL OF BARNEY MILLER!!!!! :snob: Janice 01-27-2008, 02:25 AM It's about time Barney Miller got its due. I think it's one of the most underrated shows ever. As for Seacrest, he doesn't bother me. I actually find him personable. As for not knowing football, he's not announcing the game, just doing some pre-show stuff. He could be the biggest football fan going anyway. It seemed like a strange choice in the beginning to me, but his career is obviously a professional MC, so I say, whatever. People must like him because he wouldn't be getting all this work if they didn't. Seacrest makes 20 million a year. He's sort of this generation's Dick Clark and Kasey Casem. Dick Clark must like him as he let him take over the New Year's Eve gig and American Bandstand. The guy's career is red hot. He got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at the age of 30. Laugh at him all you want. He's laughing all the way to the bank, lol. Attmay 01-27-2008, 05:16 AM Sony owns the most shows I like, so they're the most frustrating one. They certainly took their sweet time with all of them. If they had any strategic plans other than throwing a dozen shows to the wall to see which one sticks, we would have all of All in the Family AND Archie Bunker's Place, with time enough for 704 Hauser and Gloria. They should have been releasing the last season of Barney Miller by now, not the second. The Jeffersons should have be complete by now, but they took 2 years inbetween seasons 2 and 3. But there's some things one needs to keep in mind: 1. They're heavily invested in Blu-Ray, so budgetary allottments that might have gone towards TV DVDs may have gotten diverted to Blu-Ray. 2. There was a huge shakeup of personnel at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. 3. If Barney Miller can come back from the dead after four years, there's no telling what the rest of the year will hold. Maybe if the strike goes on any longer, the new programming and movies will dry up eventually and the studios will have to dig into their back catalogues so they can have something to release. Should be BM last chance if it doesn't do well this time catlover79 01-27-2008, 02:56 PM Should be BM last chance if it doesn't do well this time Well, I did my part - I bought the set. I bought Season 1, too. TVFactFan 01-27-2008, 04:40 PM Well, I did my part - I bought the set. I bought Season 1, too. 4 years is a very long time in between seasons, I just can't see Sony putting out season 3 if this release bombs. I hope it isn't a 4 year gap between season 6 and season 7 of the Jeffersons-lol JulieSomoski 01-27-2008, 05:08 PM That's the major negative with Sony DVD's, not one bonus feature at all like i seen with dvd's from warner brothers With most Sony dvds, but on a lot of dvds they do a great job with special features. I just don't understand why on some they do, and on others they don't. There were special features on 227 Season 1, Benson Season 1, Soap Season 2, Who's the Boss? Season 1, Facts of Life Season 1, The Mad About You Collection (probably the best I've ever seen from Sony), The Nanny Season 1, and One Day at a Time Season 1, if not more. But no bonus features at all for the Sony DVD Relases below Jeffersons seasons 1 to 6 Sanford and Son-seasons 1 to 6 Maude season 1 What's Happening seasons 1 to 3 What's happening Now season 1 sunshinefizzy 01-27-2008, 10:08 PM Good one, Solomon. But I just want to make one thing perfectly clear, when it comes to programming ideas, you're not stupid, THEY are!!! JulieSomoski 01-27-2008, 10:27 PM But no bonus features at all for the Sony DVD Relases below Jeffersons seasons 1 to 6 Sanford and Son-seasons 1 to 6 Maude season 1 What's Happening seasons 1 to 3 What's happening Now season 1 It makes no sense why there would be no special features on The Jeffersons and All in the Family (which you didn't put on your list-LOL). Those are 2 of TV's greatest shows. I'm sure there's something they could do. Makes you wonder why less popular shows today, like One Day at a Time, Soap, and Benson, which have not been in syndication for YEARS, got bonus features, but shows like The Jeffersons and All in the Family, which are still in cable and syndication, didn't. So what were the bonus features on One day at a Time and Benson? JulieSomoski 01-27-2008, 10:39 PM So what were the bonus features on One day at a Time and Benson? One Day at a Time had the reunion special, like a half hour I believe, that aired awhile ago. Benson had some great special features, like interviews with the cast and crew and all that. Soap Season 2 and 227 have similar features. My favorite set from Sony by far is the Mad About You Collection. Makes me wonder why they put so much time into this one DVD that hardly anyone bought, and not the regular season releases. it had 5 minute introductions on every episode, commentary, interviews, bloopers, promotional spots, original commercials, featurettes, and more. Oh that's right I remember the ODAAT Bonus feature, I really didn't consider the Reunion a bonus feature since it had already aired on CBS folbartman 01-28-2008, 01:54 PM Sony has abandoned over half of their classic series-- they should distribute these shows to other studios because i know they would jump at the chance to release the product. Here's the list of sony incomplete shows: Jeffersons Bewitched Maude Benson Silver Spoons The Nanny What's Happening Now!!! One Day At A Time Facts of Life Who's The Boss Diffrent STrokes VIP Mary HArtman, Mary Hartman I Dream Of JEannie All in the Family Archie Bunkers Place Barney Miller 227 Fantasy Island Hart to Hart Designing Women Mad About You Complete shows: Soap Seinfeld What's Happening Sanford and Son Good Times King Of Queens (Many COMPLETE crap Series that only had one season) Uh don't the incomplete list topple the complete list! They are the ONLY studio that has a 2 to one ratio of releasing this much incomplete stuff. Sony GET ON THE BALL!!!!! WE need an email address to tell them to wake up!! The only other thing need said is, NO WONDER WE TURN TO PIRATED DVDS!!!!!!!!!!!! JulieSomoski 01-28-2008, 04:54 PM Oh that's right I remember the ODAAT Bonus feature, I really didn't consider the Reunion a bonus feature since it had already aired on CBS Yeah, I wouldn't either. It's not even mentioned anywhere on the box about it on the set. I was surprised when I first went to the menu and saw itthere. But, at least it's something. ethelmaepotter 01-29-2008, 09:57 PM Seacrest is a perfect example that in Hollywood, it is not what you know but who you blow. He is an untalented dolt with extremely good connections and a wonderful agent, that is all. As for American Idol, this is a show that has never produced stellar talent, with the exception of Carrie Underwood. Why people continue to watch it is beyond me. Randy Jackson (who the hell is he and why do we care what he thinks?) Paula Abdul (does anyone care enough about her to send her to rehab?) and Simon Cowell (for someone so arrogant, he ain't picking much good talent.) Stop watching TV; read a book. It is a better use of your time. Janice 01-30-2008, 01:43 AM Seacrest is a perfect example that in Hollywood, it is not what you know but who you blow. He is an untalented dolt with extremely good connections and a wonderful agent, that is all. As disgusting as your statement is, I'll play. The proverbial "casting couch" opens doors; however, if the viewing public rejects you, you're gone. All the connections and agents in the world can't make a person a star if people have no interest in seeing you. I've seen it time and again when big actors pull strings to get their untalented kids roles, and we never see them again, after their first or second performance. If the kid is talented, like Michael Douglas, that's quite a different story. Stop watching TV; read a book. It is a better use of your time. This is a TV website. Looks like you're wasting your time here. Dean Winchester 01-30-2008, 01:47 AM This is a TV website. Looks like you're wasting your time here. lol, I know. It's called Sitcoms Online, of course people are going to discuss things related to television. Go to a literary message board if you don't want to talk television Janice 01-30-2008, 01:51 AM lol, I know. It's called Sitcoms Online, of course people are going to discuss things related to television. Go to a literary message board if you don't want to talk television  And when you go to the literary website, tell everyone that reading sucks, and TV is better, lol. ethelmaepotter 01-31-2008, 11:49 AM Yes, this is sitcomsonline.com, so why was Ryan Seacrest mentioned in the first place? Does he have anything to do with sitcoms? I work in the entertainment business and I know how it works which is why, unlike most of the general public, I prefer to read. JulieSomoski 01-31-2008, 04:55 PM Yes, this is sitcomsonline.com, so why was Ryan Seacrest mentioned in the first place? Does he have anything to do with sitcoms? I work in the entertainment business and I know how it works which is why, unlike most of the general public, I prefer to read. Why do you have to argue like this? It sounds like you're doing it on purpose. We're talking about Seacrest because that was topic of Solomon's rant this week. Sure, it's sitcom's online, but if you've noticed the other threads, we do talk about other television shows as well. If you like to read so much, why don't you read what other people have already told me?
