I don't remember what episode he said it, but Mr. Furley told the roomates that it was just him and his brother as far as siblings. Then in "Janet's Little Helper" season 7, Ralph's nephew was as he said, "His sister's" son. Does these writers think we as viewers won't be able to catch these inconsistanties?

Oh, I think the writers and producers themselves forgot the inconsistencies.

They were especially bad with children and pets. "No Children, no Dogs": the puppy is never mentioned again. "Terri Moves In": her hamster is never mentioned again. "Bird Song": is the hen parakeet Stanley got Helen ever mentioned again? "Eleanor's Return": what about the baby that started the whole mess the night of the wild going-away party? "Janet's Secret": her sister has a baby. At what, 19? Did she drop out of school? "Jack's Uncle": Jack is his uncle's favorite, ONLY, nephew... and then we see his big-shot brother in Season 4. Also, Chrissy was Cindy's cousin, and both had the last name Snow, so Cindy's father and the reverend Luther were brothers; but there was something I once caught that puts that in doubt as well.

The background scenery, too, though really gorgeous, was obviously repainted several times; the views just don't match. Sometimes it's single-family homes across the street, sometimes it's apartments. And it all looks so sleepy, there couldn't have been redevelopment.

Good catch Kool! ;)

I wonder though if the writers do in fact remember what was written before but when it comes to a storyline they just throw their hands in the air and say, "Oh well..." I mean, when it was mentioned that Ralph had only one brother, would it have been so hard to have the character say he came from a large family or that he had a brother and sister, just in case something comes along in a storyline, the writers will have already covered their tracks?

I agree. I think that when they write an episode I think that just think about that week's episode and don't remember what they wrote in previous episodes. :)
