View Full Version : Original "Miss Bliss" pilot
SBTB Geek 01-26-2008, 02:59 AM Has anyone ever seen it? The one with Jaleel White and Brian Austin Green.
I can't believe the pilot has never surfaced considering that "Saved by the Bell" has such a huge fan base. Someone should get it on YouTube ASAP!
miniZackMorris 01-26-2008, 08:44 AM i thought i have seen every episode.
kramer 01-26-2008, 09:00 AM Yes somebody should get it on youtube. I am sure somebody has it taped, if people can get old game shows and commercials on there. Somebody at one time had the original opening to "Good Morning Miss. Bliss" so they should have some episodes. The only problem is youtube likes to pull videos for what they call copyright violations.
TVFactFan 01-26-2008, 11:10 AM Jaleel White???-lol Now that I didn't Know
miniZackMorris 01-26-2008, 03:37 PM me neither
SBTB Geek 01-27-2008, 03:55 AM Yup... Jaleel was in the original pilot for "Miss Bliss," which aired on primetime NBC back in 1987.
There has always been talk about this pilot, but it seems like no one remembers it at all.
miniZackMorris 01-27-2008, 10:34 AM wat part did he play?
SBTB Geek 01-29-2008, 04:03 AM He played "Bobby Wilson"... all of the characters from the pilot were different than the original series. The only characters that survived were "Tina," "Miss Bliss," and "Mr. Belding" but he was "Gerard" instead of "Richard." Of course, everyone with the exception of Miss Bliss, was played by some other actors.
miniZackMorris 01-29-2008, 05:06 PM bobby wilson! funny how they usedx that name later.
JulieSomoski 01-29-2008, 05:13 PM I'd seriously love to see it if anyone has a copy of it. I knew about it, but I didn't think anyone had hold of it.
To think what would have happened if the show kept going with Jaleel White. I'm sure he never would have gotten cast in Family Matters, because the show would have still been going. His career would be worse than it is right now-LOL

Jaleel was very active as a young kid in the 80's, he guest starred on the Jeffersons, and was a cast member on the sitcom-"Charlie and Company", and now I hear he was on Miss Bliss??-lol
miniZackMorris 01-29-2008, 08:46 PM yea hes done alot and he was also on that movie BIG FAT LIAR he had a small part but as him self.
SBTB Geek 01-29-2008, 08:48 PM I remember Jaleel's short lived sitcom on UPN. It wasn't too bad. :\
miniZackMorris 01-29-2008, 09:19 PM how long was it?
SBTB Geek 01-30-2008, 03:07 AM I think it lasted for only one season back in 1999-2000.
miniZackMorris 01-30-2008, 07:21 AM really but i thought miss bliss was in the 80s?
TVFactFan 01-30-2008, 07:11 PM really but i thought miss bliss was in the 80s?
Not miss bliss, the UPN show that jaleel white starred in during the 1999-00 season called "grown ups"
TVFactFan 01-30-2008, 07:13 PM I remember Jaleel's short lived sitcom on UPN. It wasn't too bad. :\
I liked the show, I had just moved in my apt and would watch it on monday nights back in the spring of 2000 and was disappointed when it was cancelled
miniZackMorris 01-30-2008, 07:19 PM oh so it was after the one with zack in it ok. what part did he play?
ThomasE 02-04-2008, 12:11 AM I do remember the Miss Bliss Pilot. It aired Saturday after "The Facts Of Life". I liked the show. Miss Bliss was actually a newlywed and one of her students had a crush on her. LOL. He got jealous when her saw her and her husbande kissing in the classroom. It has been over 20 years since I've seen it but do remember it.
Oh and MiniZackMorris Jaleel played J Calvin Frazier on "Grown Ups". The show was waaaay after "Miss Bliss" and then after "Family Matters".

ThomasE 02-04-2008, 11:43 AM Solomon, you what is crazy? The ep of "Facts" that I have from that night has the NBC announcer saying "get ready for Hayley Mills in her new comedy "Good Morning Miss Bliss" next on NBC". That was not the exact quote, but something along that line.
However, I do have "Jessie's Song" from a 1990 airing that I taped. LOL.

ThomasE 02-05-2008, 01:06 AM WE will talk...
miniZackMorris 02-05-2008, 06:25 PM it sounds really cool/ i want to see it
CaptainCharisma 02-08-2008, 01:58 PM I remember seeing a very short clip of Jaleel on the original Miss Bliss show. It may have been from a documentary about SBTB or even a documentary about 90210 since Brian Austin Green was on the show at the same time. I haven't seen the actual pilot though.
I've been hoping someone would post original Miss Bliss episodes on YouTube, the pilot and otherwise. I've already seen all the "Saved by the Bell" Miss Bliss episodes, but I am interested to see how different the show looked on Disney.
Someone....ANYONE....hook us up!!!
miniZackMorris 02-08-2008, 07:17 PM was he a nerd like steve urkel or cool like slater OR ZACK
Movie12 02-10-2008, 11:13 PM Disney owns the rights to Good Morning, Miss Bliss. I wish Disney would release it on DVD so that we can have the whole Saved By The Bell collection completed.
miniZackMorris 02-11-2008, 12:44 PM i kno. i would definatly by that

You seem to be confused about a few things.
1. The original "Miss Bliss" Disney episodes ARE the episodes currently in syndication alongside the original series.
2. Brian Austin Green and Jaleel White never filmed additional GMMB eps..... just the pilot.
3. The pilot isn't even a Disney Channel production... it was filmed for NBC, and it aired on NBC.
miniZackMorris 02-12-2008, 07:15 AM what year agian?
SBTB Geek 02-12-2008, 03:00 PM ^when the pilot aired? 1987.
miniZackMorris 02-12-2008, 03:31 PM ohhhhhhhhh
MacLeaper 02-13-2008, 01:42 AM I've seen the 1987 pilot for "Good Morning Miss Bliss". It's pretty good. Hayley Mills is indeed the only cast member to stay on from that pilot- of course, she was the title role of Carrie Bliss. But Tina and Gerard Belding were both there too (played by different people). I'm really glad they changed Mr. Belding's first name to Richard.
And yes, both Brian Austin Green and Jaleel White are in the pilot. Brian Austin Green plays a pretty serious, studious type student- reminded me a bit of Alan from "Head of the Class". Jaleel White had a pretty likeable character as Bobby- I know nowadays it's hard not to immediately identify him with Steve Urkel- but his character was pretty different from that role- Bobby was a bit more of the class clown to some degree- cracking a few jokes here and there.
I loved the one kid who was in love with Miss Bliss- he was pretty hilarious.
(Matt Shakman, playing the part of Georgie Winslow. Too funny. He's probably better known as Graham J.R. Lubbock, Jr. from "Just the Ten of Us" (the Growing Pains spin-off show)
Of course, Georgie is a bit heart-broken to find out that Miss Bliss is married- which is why the IMDB listing credits her as Mrs. Davis for the pilot.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0590720/
And especially for Seaquest DSV fans, it's worth noting that Jonathan Brandis also stars in this pilot. (He made another Saved By the Bell appearance in the "Thanksgiving" episode of Saved By the Bell: The College Years)
He plays Michael Thompson, a young rebellious kid that Miss Bliss' heart goes out to and she tries to reach him and help him with his schoolwork.
She's also trying to pacify her husband and make time for him so they can be romantic together and such- but it seems her work keeps finding her when Michael comes to see her at her house.
The main plot is about Miss Bliss trying to juggle her time with her husband and her commitment to her kids and the school- and trying to help kids like Michael. (If I remember correctly, I believe he is dealing with grief over his brother who is dying.)
And for anyone wondering, there's a completely different opening intro- with a montage of pencil drawings of Hayley Mills growing up through the years- and showing various moments of her life, like being a cheerleader in high school, graduating, etc. and eventually leading up to sitting at her teacher's desk with "Miss Bliss" written on the chalkboard. The show's title is still there in pink as "Good Morning, Miss Bliss"- but the font is totally different- and the theme song itself is totally different too. It's another pop style song like the original GMMB theme- just even more so, if you know what I mean.
There are some comedic moments, but also a strong dramatic tone. Of course, the dramatic tone continued through the Good Morning, Miss Bliss series- though I think the series itself definitely had a lighter tone throughout. And by the time of the 1989 revamp into Saved By the Bell, it had definitely become mainly a comedy- with some dramatic moments also added along the way. It seems to me that the premise of the show started with a focus on the one teacher- Miss Bliss- making a difference in the lives of her students- along with some comedic bits during the course of the show- and eventually moved to being more of a straight out comedy- with less emphasis on the drama- but somehow it found that right mix where it brought in just enough drama for those moments in which the show got serious and drove home an important message. And it still managed to keep an overall light tone.
But I'll take it any style really- I love all of Saved By the Bell. Grew up watching it as Good Morning Miss Bliss and I still love watching that- along with the rest of what the series eventually became.
miniZackMorris 02-13-2008, 06:33 AM where can i see that show?
btw i will be gone til friay

I wasn't confused about anything. Read my post again. I saw a clip of the Jaleel/BAG episode somewhere (a documentary on E! probably). I then asked if someone could post episodes of the Disney channel episodes AND the original pilot. That's why I said "I've been hoping someone would post original Miss Bliss episodes on YouTube, the pilot and otherwise". The ones on syndication are technically the same episodes that aired on Disney, but appear to have replaced the transitional music and definitely the theme music (the original is on YouTube). Who knows what else they replaced. That's why I called it the Saved by the Bell version of Miss Bliss. I wasn't confusing the two shows at all, nor which station broadcasted them.
You were confused by what I was saying, and I don't know why. I didn't even imply some of the things you claimed I said/thought. Oh well.
miniZackMorris 04-26-2008, 05:44 PM Indeed. For those who may not know, Jonathan Brandis is now deceased. :rip:

It was kind of funny, though. You seem to make a lot of mistakes. You should really read the posts more carefully before replying, though. Mistaking deceased for disease is very careless-LOL
If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? You don't have to answer if you don't want to . . .
miniZackMorris 04-27-2008, 06:56 PM well i guess i do kinda skim but i mistaked diseased for deceased so yea i guess your right.
but seriously "Uhhh... You have got to be kidding me. Seriously, please tell me you're 8 years old. There's no way you could possibly be over the age of 10." whats up with that.
im only 12

What's up with that? Many of the things you write on the forum lead me to believe you're extremely young, that's what. And no offense, but you should be able to decipher "deceased" from "diseased" by the age of 12. I realize you're young and people make mistakes, but come on man. I'm not trying to be rude, but your posts are starting to give me a headache.
miniZackMorris 04-28-2008, 05:54 AM ok i will try and read the posts more carefully sorry for giving you a headache.
ok so he is deceased. how did he die?

No worries man. I know come off pretty harsh, but what matters here is we're all SbtB fans, irregardless of our age.
ok so he is deceased. how did he die?
Suicide, believe it or not.
From his Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonathan_Brandis):
"On November 12, 2003, Brandis died from injuries he suffered after hanging himself the previous day. He was 27 years old. According to his mother, he went out to dinner with friends, then they went back to his apartment. His friends reported that he seemed to be agitated and pacing around quite a bit. He left the room, and approximately 15 minutes later, one of his friends went looking for him and found him hanging by a nylon rope in the second floor hallway of his building. His friends cut him down and called paramedics. Despite all efforts to revive him, he was later pronounced dead. "
miniZackMorris 04-28-2008, 02:55 PM suicide! i wonder why he would do that?
thanks for the link
Who knows. Suicide is one of those things where even if said person leaves behind a note "explaining" why they did it, you still sit there baffled by why they would go to such an extreme. There are many different theories as to why Brandis killed himself(which are mentioned on the wikipedia page), but no one really knows for sure. Sometimes people just get really depressed for no apparent reason. Human minds are a tough thing to ever truly understand.
It's too bad he didn't get the part of Anakin in Attack of the Clones. He might still be alive if he had... I think he would have made an excellent Anakin too.
miniZackMorris 04-29-2008, 05:54 PM yea i kkno what u mean. u never kno y they would do it..

Yes, I am quite smart. Thank you for noticing.
Irregardless is a word. A nonstandard one, but a word IRREGARDLESS.

Its just funny how you jumped ALL OVER Mini Zack ( a 12yo) for being young and about a word mistake and here you are mistaken. As if being young and liking SBTB shouldnt go together. How old are you if I may ask?
I stand corrected in that irregardless is considered an incorrect word. Which still means you are INCORRECT, regardless. Most dictionaries list it as "nonstandard" or "incorrect".
Below is a qoute from your own link:
irregardless :
an erroneous word that, etymologically, means the exact opposite of what it is used to express
The Urban Dictionary explains:
urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=irregardless
irregardless:
Used by people who ignorantly mean to say regardless. According to webster, it is a word, but since the prefix "ir" and the suffx "less" both mean "not or with" they cancel each other out, so what you end up with is regard.
Below is a qoute from wiktionary:
"Although well attested, this term is widely regarded as nonstandard and an illiteracy for regardless or irrespective, and is probably inappropriate in virtually any formal setting, except quoted dialog."
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/irregardless
Not to be rude but, I'm sure you should be able to decipher this.
However, whats matters is we are all SBTB fans.

Mini Zack shut me down? Now that's a riot! That kid could not shut down a microwave oven.
You're really grasping at straws here. To compare my 'improper' use of the word regardless to the shocking abuse of the English language by Mini Zack is downright preposterous. There's simply no comparison.
I'm not entirely sure how it's relevant, but I'm 31. That would have made me 9 to 13 when SbtB was on the air. So most of my enjoyment of the show as a grown adult man is due to the fact that I grew up with it.
Also, why the heck are you digging up a 3 year old thread/discussion just to try and get one up on me? That's pretty pathetic. This is all in the past. To say you're a day late and a dollar short would be a massive understatement.
spano 09-12-2011, 03:54 AM [QUOTE=vio]Mini Zack shut me down?
Thats just how it seemed...
You got real angry about his mistake. He was polite and moved on asking to not be criticized. Then your responses:
"You have got to be kidding me. Seriously, please tell me you're 8 years old. There's no way you could possibly be over the age of 10."

You know the above sounds like something you say to a bully, just a coincidence Im sure.
MurphyCarmichael 09-26-2011, 10:26 PM This is on YouTube now. I just watched it recently. I was looking for Saved By The Bell and came across Good Morning Miss Bliss. Sorry if someone already stated this, I didn't read every single post in the 5 pages of posts.
