We just got a call from our niece in Columbus, OH saying that Mikes sister Phyllis has passed on. We are in total shock. So Mike & his family could sure use some prayers & vibes. We dunno if we'll get to go up there yet cuz the weather is too bad to drive that far west. We're gonna have to see if either of Mikes 2 brothers go & if they do try to hitch a ride with them. If they don't go then we may not get to go unless we can find real cheap flights on the cheap Skybus airline. I'm still dazed & can't believe it. I worry about Mike buthe is taking this better than I thought. I love him so much...

Cheryl, OMG sooo sorry to hear that! Prayers just said...
Since I am in the area, can you PM me with the specifics like the funeral home? I could at least send online condolences, if I can figure out how to explain how I know you...

Thanks! I dunno what funeral home she will be at yet. Her name was Phyllis Trout. She had a massive heart attack & I still can't believe it even tho she had heart trouble & we knew she could go. We may not get to go. One of Mikes brothers is probably not going. The other one isn't sure if he is going ortoe not. If he does his son wants to go with him. If that's the case, then the sons wife & little boy would go with them, and maybe Mikes brothers wife. So no room for us. :( I checked into getting flights with the cheap Skybus airline, the bus & Amtrak. For the 2 of us to go via Skybus would be $500 some bucks. Bus for the 2 of us would be $300 some bucks & we can't afford either. Train does not go to Columbus, OH. Closest to there is Huntington, WV. It would be $244 for th4e 2 of us to go but they only have one departure & arrival time. Arrival time would be around 9:30 pm. It'd be kinda too much to have to have one of Mikes relatives from Ohio have to come all the way down there that time of night to get us. Yikes. We plan to go to town today as we had origionally planned to just try to get some sort of normalcy & take our minds off of things. Thanks for the prayers & vibes. Maybe this some when we go to Ohio we could get together with ya some time. That'd be fun...

So sorry to hear that, Cheryl! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I've heard of airlines having discount flights for families to attend funerals, or for family emergencies; stuff like that. Have you tried asking the airlines about it?
Best wishes to you!

yes I have heard of that too Karen. My inlaws used that when there was a death in the family. They were able to get a discount

Thanks for the support & prayers ya'll. We checked into bereavement flights & I think they are still too expensive. Looks like it might snow there then so we probably won't be able to go. We will remember her tho. Thanks for the support & wishes...

Good news! We are gonna get to go. Mikes brother who doesn't like to go to funerals is going with his wife going along & they are gonna let us hitch a ride with them. Evidently his wife talked some sense into him about how dangerous it would be to go alone up there all that way in one day & esp with him being a diabetic. So we leave with them at 6 am (Yikes) & head up there. We come back Wed after visiting awhile after the funeral as his wife had to go back to driving school bus & they're afraid to be up there to long as it could snow bad. They are staying in a motel but we are sleeping with our 22 yr old nephew. We've close to him & he needs us now. To get online we'll just get on his puter so we don't have to lug a laptop with us.
Mikes other brother, the one who goes to our church called & said his wife, son & sons wife & little boy were going. He said if the other brother hadn't been able to go & let us go, he would've rented a suburband so we all could've gone.
So when push comes to shove, family does come through in the end. His brothers may all squabble amongst each other & Mike but when an emergency arises family pulls together in the end. We'll be back online probably late Wed nite. Vibes to all who need it...

Thanks so much for the vibes ya'll & support. Mikes brother who doesn't like going to funerals & lives closest to us & his wife let us ride with them. They met up with Mikes brother who goes to our church & we followed them. It was a rough trip as they only stopped for breakfast & to get gas & go to the bathroom. They did not even stop for dinner. I have never traveled up here so fast. When we travel up here we take a few days & stop over night so we can not be so tired. We also hit neat stores & tourist places. I went 9 hrs without eating. I finally got to eat a 9:30 pm. Guess they don't realize Mike & I are diabetic & have to eat lol. & Both of his brothers are diabetic too & and the wife of the brother who goes to our church.
They all opted to stay at a motel but we are staying at Mikes sisters with our nephew (her grandson who lived/lives with her). We wanted to be with family so we stayed with them. Sadly Mikes brothers all want to rush on back home after the funeral in case it snows here in the Midwest. So we won't get to go back to the house to visit. Bummer. We plan to go back up this summer & vist them for 2 weeks.
The poor nieces & nephews are just devastated. I love those kids so much they are good kids. Ages 2 to 40. The trip back tomorrow will be a rush. Anyway Thanks for the support ya'll. Ya'll are great... :)
i haven't been on the board lately and i just read this post, cheryl i'm so sorry for your husband and families loss my prayers are with you

Poor Cheryl. I cannot believe they didn't stop for you and hubby to eat. I always have to make sure my hubby eats or he'll faint. It's a miracle that you and hubby didn't fall.

So sorry to hear about your hubby. They stopped to eat earlier, just not right before the funeral home visiting as they didn't want to miss the funeral home visiting. We didn't want to miss it either. We did get to eat afterwards tho...
