View Full Version : Worst Prizes to Win on the Price is Right
Brian Damage 01-24-2008, 10:30 PM 1. Sauna/hot tub. This could be great for someone with a big house and a yard (and extra room), but who else could use this? I've been waiting three decades for someone to sarcastically say to Bob (and now Drew) "yeah, that will look great in my studio apartment."
2. Jet ski. Wow, talk about a product designed for a specific type of person. You'd have to really be into sports of this type (and live near water) to use something like this. I bet this is a prize that a lot of contestants sell on Craigslist. "For sale: one unused jet ski. I won it playing the Grocery Game on The Price Is Right! Must sell."
3. A chandelier. WTF?
4. Karaoke machine. I think this will be fun for about six days (four if you have kids), and then you're going to say "this is all I won on The Price Is Right?"
5. Trampoline. This is one of those gifts that are offered and you can kinda see the excitement drain from the face of the contestant who might win it. A trampoline! That looks like ... fun.
6. A car. Yeah, that's right, a car. Everyone screams and jumps up and down and wets their pants when Rich announces that the prize is a car, and I was always excited as a kid when that was the prize (ah, the days when a new car was well under $10,000), but now? I see it as just another bill to pay: taxes, insurance, gas, maintenance on the car, and who knows if you can even get a car close to your home or have to drive the thing from the West Coast. Maybe it's an L.A. thing, getting excited over cars. If the show was filmed in New York City they'd probably have less car prizes.

Ireneparalegal 01-24-2008, 10:40 PM Have you had a chance to catch TPIR with Drew, Brian? I have seen it many times and have noticed that Drew does make funny sarcastic remarks abt some of the prizes. One show had this older black woman who was on stage and when the prize was revealed, Drew was laughing so hard. He then went on to say, "Yeah, just what you were hoping to win, a dune buggy."
Also, he said something to the effect of, "An office desk and ________(can't remember the item). Who would have thought of putting those two items together?
Drew says what we have been thinking all along.
Mikado 01-24-2008, 11:10 PM I'll take the car........then sell it and buy a used VW camper bus

I bet a lot of the contestants who win prizes do just that...sell the item for cash. ;)
Mikado 01-24-2008, 11:47 PM and if its an expensive car, get a used VW Golf to go with the bus ;)
bingbangbaby 01-25-2008, 12:47 AM Worst Prizes to Win on the Price is Right:
1) dining room furniture-- do most people still have dining rooms?
2) a bunch of Rice A Roni -- or I guess we saw that more on Let's Make A Deal, didn't we? Either way...what does one do with a bunch of Rice A Roni?
catlover79 01-25-2008, 12:54 AM This whole thread just has me  :brent!!!
wiseguy182 01-25-2008, 01:35 AM actually, I think the dining room/living room/bedroom groups are great prizes: escpecially if it's a person looking to buy their first home and has no furniture, or someone with old furniture who could use an update. Unfortunately, nobody ever seems to like these prizes. I would much prefer that showcase over the fancy car: they have the highest theft rates I would imagine
how about these?
-popcorn cart: I have one of those, it's called the microwave.
-amphibious vehicle or whatever it's called: would anyone be caught dead in one of these things?
-day beds: what is this thing, and does anyone use it?
Personally, I like the trips, but they don't seem to be popular. It would be nice to be well traveled.
there have been some odd combinations of contestants and games/prizes. Like the guy that had a broken leg or whatever, and of all possible games he could play, he ends up with the race game, where you have to run around the whole stage assigning price tags to 4 prizes. Another is woman from Phillipines plays for a snowmobile.

Another great example of this is when a game table was an IUFB and it came with a supply of vegetable juice. Drew joked, "Hey, you want to come over to my house and play checkers? I'll bring the vegetable juice."
bingbangbaby 01-25-2008, 07:18 PM actually, I think the dining room/living room/bedroom groups are great prizes:
Ah, living room and bedroom furniture, yes! dining room, not so much...
-day beds: what is this thing, and does anyone use it?
Hmmm, a day bed....all I know is my grandma had a day bed in the rumpus room
wiseguy182 01-26-2008, 03:28 AM I heard that they had apothecary (sp?) tables on there once. They also had copy machines on there a couple of times in the 80s, not sure if they've done it recently, but that always struck me as a weird prize.

Hello again!
I just had to tell you about a prize I saw on Price Is Right yesterday.
Have you ever seen one of those enormous plastic tricycle things that you pedal in the water? You usually only see them in the islands for rent at resorts.
They actually gave one of those away to an old man that drives around in an RV!
Drew Carey was like ~ "Can you imagine seeing one of those being pulled by an RV?" LOL. It was too funny! The thing was actually worth more than $4000.00! My husband said he would have purposely lost that game! But it does bring up the question ~ Can they just opt for the monetary value instead of actually taking the (booby) prize?
Speaking of Drew ~ He is definitely not as eloquent as Bob Barker is/was but I am getting to like him. Especially when they give the horrible prizes. Last week they gave away this stupid 3 wheeled bicycle cart type thing built for two that you pedal around. Who the hell would want that! Drew's comment was "There's something you don't see every day!" LOL

^^^^That is what I love abt Drew, he knows those prizes are too damn stupid sometimes and the way he jokes abt it is even funnier.
My boyfriend brought up a good point once abt the trips they give away. Note how it is announced "Fly from Los Angeles to Mexico..." well, there was a contestant once who was from HAWAII. She won a trip to Italy I believe, but the flight was from Los Angeles. My boyfriend said, "So, this woman who lives in Hawaii has to travel to Los Angeles USING HER OWN MONEY to get the free trip from Los Angeles to Italy?" It never dawned on me until he mentioned that.
