I love both shows, probably GT a little more, but I don't see anything GT really had that the Jeffesrons lacked. The Jeffersons was funnier, had better actors, and the writing was better.

OK, Good Times gave you that real black experience the creator really experienced himself.

It's not the same type of thread, it's more onesided since I'm not looking to discuss this with Jeffersons Fans

I loved both shows, so I guess I can't chat here. :lol: Good Times was the first black family show that was presented to a television audience. Jeffersons was a spin-off (unlike Good Times :lol:) of characters already established. Good Times had only Esther Rolle who was familiar to the tv audience. We already knew George, Weezy and Lionel Jefferson.

I can't sit here and say one was better than the other. They were both different shows. The only thing they had in common was the fact the stars were black actors. To me that is like comparing two shows that featured two white families. It means nothing to me.

I feel that Good Times was a little funnier than The Jeffersons. The Jeffersons had an "Older audience" feel to it. Good Times was lively at times and had you on the edge of your seat. I don't get that same feeling with The Jefferson.

If I were a teen in the 70's Good Time would be something that I would watch and The Jeffersons would be something that my Mom and Dad would watch.

No not at all. Don't get me wrong I love The Jeffersons, it's a funny show. But in my opinion Flo & James has an edge over George & Weezy.

I finished season 1 DVD Tuesday night. I don't think that The Jeffersons had the same anticipation that some of the episodes that Good Times had.

The only episode that comes to mind that had the feeling that Good Times had was the episode where George was stabbed by the girl gang members. Also the episode where Helen and Weezy were in the bar with the hooker who's pimp was about to beat her butt.

But Good Times has that set bar that The Jefferson just couldn't make in my book. They were just in two different classes

But they are both classic television shows.

I liked both shows but, I could identify with Good Times more so than with the Jeffersons. We didn't live in the ghetto but we were not rich either, I can remember the hard times when money and groceries were not in abundance. Good Times was about a hard working man trying to support his family and the struggles he experienced. I loved the political jokes about Nixon, Ford, and the economy of that time.

One of my favorite Good Times episode is Florida's Protest.
Today I think of TVLand as the supermarket and Link as the jive talking store manager :eek:

Good Times just has more of a re-watchability factor IMHO :wave:

what made the jeffersons unrewatchable?

I knew I should have hit the edit button and added--I also enjoy The Jeffersons.

LOL, Tell me what it is that I'm missing, I've watched all of the episodes. The only thing that I hate was that the first season was so short.

Yeah because it was a midseason replacement, but the energy and edge from season 1 did spill over into season 2 but kind of fissed out around the end of season 2

The fact that there was never any characters constantly seen over the age of 70. The Oldest character you saw was Wanda and that was only 3 times and spreaded out through the season. Mother Jefferson on the Jeffersons was seen too much

Well She slowed the Show down everytime she spoke or came out of a room and I found myself being bored. Her delivery was very slow and that's something you didn't see on Good Times
