View Full Version : With a Doubt, Vera is the WEIRDEST TV CHARACTER in TV Sitcom History
TVFactFan 01-24-2008, 11:33 AM Yes, she was more strange than Chrissy Snow, Gloria Bunker/stivic, Mork, Urkel, Screech, Waldo from family matters, and probably many more. I hate this character so much and the things that come out her mouth were just borderline or actually certified retardation.
Like this statement-"wouldn't be nice to have a birthday every month?
And then the episode when she wanted to keep a baby and didn't even know who the baby belong to
the episode when she is depressed because she is still working at mel's diner and stated she wanted to be REMEMBERED by something more important than a waitress so she decides to break a Tap dance record.
This woman was extrmely LOONEY and it's a good thing MEL and ALICE are strong enough characters to overshadow her WACKINESS
Sterling Holobyte 01-24-2008, 12:06 PM Agreed. Not only that, but she was "scary" weird.
I'll take a Chrissy Snow type of weird anyday. Uh huh.
tv star collector 01-24-2008, 12:29 PM Oh, I dunno. When I think of "weird," the first characters that come to mind
are Larry and his brother Daryl and his other brother Daryl on Newhart.
FredScuttle 01-24-2008, 02:18 PM I dunno about you, but I think it'd be neat to get birthday presents every month ;)
friendsfan77 01-24-2008, 02:29 PM I dunno about you, but I think it'd be neat to get birthday presents every month ;)
I know that's the truth. lol
I have really grown to love Vera lately.
TVFactFan 01-24-2008, 07:53 PM I dunno about you, but I think it'd be neat to get birthday presents every month ;)
Yeah but that's something a CHILD would say and Vera was almost 40-lol
GARFIELDKOOL 01-24-2008, 08:02 PM Vera was weird, but Chrissy was staright up stupid. As starnge as Vera was, she had more sense that Chrissy. Edith Bunker was smarter than them all, though.
Eric Paddon 01-24-2008, 08:09 PM *Anyone* who sees "Oh God" and then comes away thinking that George Burns is God Himself because she saw the movie where he plays God, so ergo he must be God, is LOONY!!!
catlover79 01-24-2008, 08:46 PM Yes, she was one loopy lady.
Ireneparalegal 01-24-2008, 10:53 PM I dunno about you, but I think it'd be neat to get birthday presents every month ;)
Same here. Vera was very naive and she had the mind of a very young girl. She also had the mind of a child as you recall the whole Santa Claus episode. I guess she was "special" but in a way that harmed no one. ;)
catlover79 01-25-2008, 12:10 AM Mel didn't call her a dingy chick for nothing!!
bingbangbaby 01-25-2008, 12:35 AM She's not my favorite character either but she had a good heart and she was harmless. I think it was because there were so many things going on with her that made her seem weird...she was child-like, naive, sometimes senseless, gullible, flighty, sometimes stupid, and she had some sort of nervous thing going on...I do think she has to be the most nervous character in tv history.
catlover79 01-25-2008, 12:36 AM ^ How many straws do you think she spilled over the years??
bingbangbaby 01-25-2008, 12:38 AM That is a funny clip though
catlover79 01-25-2008, 12:42 AM ^ It is.
Jude The Obscure 01-25-2008, 01:09 AM And a rare scene used from the very different diner set of the first season!
catlover79 01-25-2008, 01:22 AM Did Mel ever insure the diner? With the combination of Vera working there and all sorts of things crashing through the walls, roof, etc., poor Mel must have had sky-high premiums.
Jude The Obscure 01-25-2008, 01:48 AM Did Mel ever insure the diner? With the combination of Vera working there and all sorts of things crashing through the walls, roof, etc., poor Mel must have had sky-high premiums.
which explains the low pay the waitresses made!
bingbangbaby 01-25-2008, 07:22 PM which explains the low pay the waitresses made!
Well that and the fact that he had 3 waitresses working at the same time for a teeny tiny one waitress diner that was empty more than it was full...
Eric Paddon 01-25-2008, 08:38 PM Even more weird was how Mel always had regular customers always complaining about how bad the food was. Who forced them to keep coming back?????

Speaking of "nervous," wouldn't she and Barney Fife have made a wacky couple?
bingbangbaby 01-26-2008, 04:24 PM Speaking of "nervous," wouldn't she and Barney Fife have made a wacky couple?
:brent Wouldn't you have loved to see that sitcom?! Should we put Vera in the diner in Mayberry or Barney in the police dept in Phoenix, (and a regular customer of Mel's of course)?
Ireneparalegal 01-26-2008, 05:18 PM Even more weird was how Mel always had regular customers always complaining about how bad the food was. Who forced them to keep coming back?????
That's what I want to know. Why did they complain so much, yet they were always eating there. I guess the food was awful, BUT CHEAP.
Eric Paddon 01-26-2008, 10:34 PM And given the many references to "Barney's Burger Barn" it's not as if Mel's was the only place in town for them to go to, leaving then with no choice!
Ireneparalegal 01-27-2008, 01:58 AM And given the many references to "Barney's Burger Barn" it's not as if Mel's was the only place in town for them to go to, leaving then with no choice!
 No kidding...check this out, remember this skit:

and this is for real:

Jude The Obscure 01-27-2008, 02:42 AM Don't forget Vinnie's House of Veal! LOL
snl 70s show fan 02-02-2008, 12:05 AM Don't forget Vinnie's House of Veal! LOLi think vinnies house of veal is in lake havsu about 100 miles from phoenix
Jude The Obscure 02-02-2008, 10:17 PM oh well, it was mentioned enough to make it seem like another place to eat in Phoenix LOL
kachoo2135 02-08-2008, 08:05 PM When she asks how are you, she's concerned about you. She is totally the opposite of her character in real life, and she's not a dingy in real life. Neither was Chrissy Snow; she was the making of the Three's Company show, and that show went downhill after her departure. :D
