I watched the debut of the show last night and was bored to tears by it. It takes forever for a contestant to answer a question and then even longer for the lie detector results to filter in. Anybody else catch this show last night?

I loved it. The ratings were MASSIVE. What Writers strike?

Auds stuck around following "American Idol" on Wednesday for Fox's latest reality entry, "Moment of Truth," which bowed with very strong numbers. The net beat its combined major-network competition on the night by about 25%.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, "American Idol" kicked off things with another dominant performance (10.8 rating/28 share in adults 18-49, 26.8 million viewers overall), even if it did come in about 14% below its delivery in the same hour a year ago. It beat its combined ABC-CBS-NBC competition by 11 shares in 18-49.

And at 9, "Moment of Truth" (10.2/24 in 18-49, 23.2 million viewers overall) retained a record chunk of its lead-in from "Idol," logging the best numbers for a premiering show on any network since last February's "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader," which also bowed behind "Idol" on Fox. "Moment" skewed younger than "5th Grader," though, actually building on "Idol" by 10% in adults 18-34 and posting the best premiere score on any net in this demo (10.6/27) since Fox's "Joe Millionaire" in January 2003.

FOX is one of the worst offenders when it comes to hyping up their programming. One of the few exceptions to the rule is Back To You. It doesn't surprise me that this game show would turn out to be a dud.

I agree. I loved it, too, and can't wait to see more.

I wasn't too wild about this one, either. Mark L. Walberg was the only saving grace, and he hasn't had the best luck with game shows lately.

I am not surprised that the show was a ratings hit, I just expected more out of it I guess.

I agree. They hyped up that lyrics game show but I found the Singing Bee on NBC to be much better.

Moment of Truth to me honestly sounds like a Maury spin-off.

I didn't think it was great. I think there wre way too many questions for each contestant. Maybe a limit of 10 really good questions would be good, but ho many did you have to answer correctly to get the top prize? Like 25 or something like that. I was switching back and forth between this and Ghost Hunters, and eventually left it on Ghost Hunters.

The same thing happened with Fifth Grader last year. It got almost identicle numbers to Moment of Truth's premiere, but now it's getting around 10 million (which actually isn't bad for any FOX show besides American Idol and House)
