- D'OH!: ''The Simpsons Movie'' failed to grab a nomination in the best animated film category, despite being a critical hit and earning nearly $526 million worldwide. Jerry Seinfeld's ''Bee Movie'' also was snubbed. What's the deal with that? (The nominees are ''Persepolis,'' ''Ratatouille'' and ''Surf's Up.'')

Wow - I thought The Simpsons would at least get one nomination. I'm not surprised that Bee Movie got snubbed, however - for all the shilling Jerry gave it, I've heard mostly negative things about it.

I'm surprised too, I've heard some people say the movie was better than even the last few seasons of episodes.

If the movie had been made a few years ago, before the bottom completely fell out from under the Simpsons and America began to lose interest, it would hooked the award for best animated feature and probably anything else that can be delivered to a cartoon movie. I mean, the movie was great, with the exception of an oddly mean Homer, a unfairly snubbed Lisa, and super-slick animation, I would've never have thought that the people who penned the godawaful 18th season could've come up with it. Maybe it wasn't as good as the show's prime was, (see the complaints above) but geez, for the times, it was unbelievable.

I haven't yet seen "The Simpsons Movie," but has any motion picture
based on a television show ever won an Academy Award (aside from within a
technical category)?

That is a major surprise there, considering how much attention and money the movie made.
