Hello everyone! As a child I hung out at the Mily Way Drive in, which is the filming point of "arnolds" on Happy Days. It is located on Park Washington Road in Milwaukee. Does anyone know where the idea of happy days came from?

Is this The T posting under another name? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

I heard they modeled the exterior of "Arnold's" after the Milky Way Drive-In, they never shot any of the outdoor scenes in Milwaukee - that was all in California.

The interior was modeled after a place called "Pig 'n Whistle". The Jefferson High school colors were based on the blue and white used at Nicolet High School which is the closest high school to the Milky Way. Do you know if that school is still there?

I've been told the Pig 'n Whistle closed but the Milky Way was renamed Kopp's Custard, is that right T?

There are no carhops at that place according to what someone emailed me, but there was at the original Milky Way Drive-In.

the fonzjofan name gave you away http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

I thought you might be posting for somebody else, as I don't think your old enough to have hung out at the Milky Way Drive-In..

When did it change names, does your father know? Have you been to the updated place?

Wow am I that obvious? lol. Yes he does know it has changed. I go there whenever I go to Milwaukee (I live in wisconsin so it aint far) It has great food! I am not quite sure when it changed names. It's really a great place, but personally I think I would prefer the Milky Way Drive in! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

The Milky Way, now known as Kopps (*great* burgers and custard, by the way), is located on Port Washington Road, a few blocks south of Silver Spring Drive in Glendale (a suburb of Milwaukee). Sorry though, I am not old enough to have known it as the Milky Way. However, I've been to Kopps quite a bit. No, there are no carhops...you have to go inside to the counter and order food; also, there are no booths or chairs to sit at, so you either have to stand around inside and eat, or go outside and sit at the picnic tables on the patio. In other words, it looks absolutely *nothing* like it does on Happy Days, inside or out. I'm not even sure if Kopps is the exact same building as the Milky Way, or if it was demolished and a new building built on the same site.

About a mile or so north of Kopps is Nicolet High School, also in Glendale. Yes it still exists (and is one of the largest suburban schools in the area) and yes, the school colors are light blue and white, just like Jefferson High's.
