Does anyone recall this story? A group of religious teenage girls on some kind of retreat claimed they saw objects in the sky and took Polaroid photos that seemed to show Jesus and the Virgin Mary, as well as a headstone that had the name of one of the girl's dead relatives on it. They were pointing their cameras to the sky when they took these miraculous photographs. UM hired a photography expert to examine the pictures and he said they were most likely the result of faulty film, or possibly intentional exposure to an outside light source. It seemed pretty apparent these photos were either accidental or a complete hoax. I can't recall ever seeing this story again after it debuted on NBC. Does anyone else remember it?

yeah I remember it. pretty sure this happened in Kentucky, which is where my family had plans to move to when i was a kid.

I do remember that, and I remember being less than convinced.

I remember the photo expert showed how an overexposed picture looked exactly like "the Virgin Mary." The light was coming through the trees and several people claimed to see something but it was never very definitive.

I chalk that one up to "you will see a lot of things if you want to believe it."

Yeah, I remember this. I don't doubt the sincerity of their claim, but I'm not at all convinced that what they observed was anything more than a developing error.

I remember watching this segment as a kid thinking to myself, "Ok where's the miracle stuff in these pictures? Looks like a bunch of sunlight reflection to me." I find it amazing that UM even did a segment on this.

I still have memories as a child of reading the description in TV guide that UM was going to have a segment about a statue of Jesus that moved. I thought this segment was going to frighten me and debated whether I wanted to watch it, but when I finally did, I couldn't believe how lame it was. When they showed the "before" and "after" pictures, I didn't seen any difference at all and couldn't figure out how anyone thought this statue's eyes had closed!

The people interviewed in that segment sounded sincere, but it was obvious they just saw what they wanted to see.
