If the video was made when the song was current, would've placed it in late 77/early 78. It's been so long since I've seen those episodes of ODAAT but I don't recall Valerie ever having her hair so permed.

The video was made near the time the song was released and the only way I know that is because it aired on an episode of the Midnight Special in 1978. You have a point about her hair, It was never that permed on One Day at a Time.
It is not Valerie. It is a woman from Brooklyn named Maria Scarpetti
Ha Ha! Mackenzie Phillips sings Larry Groce's Junk Food Junkie.

Saw the comment on you tube so it would appear that it's not her.

Ok, Do you have any proof of this and preferably something other than Wikipedia.
some guy who claims he's related to this Scarpetti chick posted on YouTube. Of course, that means nothing since that's just one person's word

true, but you can't take everything you read off YouTube/Wiki for what it's worth. I remember awhile back, La Toya Jackson's Wiki page claimed she's sold over 200 million albums in America alone.
I'm pretty sure it's not, but I always liked the song , so check it out.
