View Full Version : Make Room for Daddy - Season 6 DVD Review
If you have room, you have to make room for Danny Thomas with the sixth season of Make Room for Daddy on DVD! The five disc set marks the series return to DVD after a highly disappointing fifth season release, but now it is back (from another company, it is important to say) and much more impressive! This is the series that is, in a sense, the "daddy" of many of our older sitcoms, and eventually gave us The Andy Griffith Show... and what would TV be like today without that series?

treky 01-19-2008, 03:41 AM FINNALY a decent release of this series!
Now; if they would only get the remainder out and do the same GREAT job on them!!!! (also, release the first 4 seasons-but from what I've read; that's not likely to happen anytime:( )
And, like you say, a re-release of season 5 would be nice-and with all those episodes uncut too!
treky 02-08-2008, 02:42 AM here's a link to the very end of a 3rd season episode, with Danny Thomas and Jean Hagan pitching cirgarettes. It also has the closing credits:

Bob's TV Treasures 02-19-2008, 01:20 PM Sadly, the sixth season set is selling poorly. This will
jeopardize future seasons from being released, and also
jeopardize future projects for releasing classic TV on
DVD. Very sad, indeed.
Benno123 02-19-2008, 07:22 PM If the set is selling poorly, then instead of producing XXXX number of copies, I wish some companies would produce small limited amounts for the fans who really want them.
TVistheBEST 02-21-2008, 10:11 PM The following is from S'More Entertainment. I contacted them and thanked them for a great 6 season release. There reply makes me sad in regards to more releases of Make Room for Daddy. I hope things change. Try sending them an email in support.

When you're putting alot of time, efort and money into creating
something special, it's always good to be appreciated. Too many
companies treat these old TV shows like a commodity and don't give
them the attention they deserve.
Sadly, unless sales increase dramatically, it may be difficult to
justify the continuation of additional season releases. The retail
market has changed and chains like Border's and Blockbuster have
declined to carry "MRFD". We're going to try and put this in front of
the fans and hopefully, will be able to justify more releases.
Thanks again.
Benno123 02-21-2008, 10:51 PM Thanks for the email address! An email of support has just been sent! I encourage others who read this section of the message board to do the same! (Maybe I'll post a review on amazon and put the email address there?!?)

Thanks for your support. It would be ashame if the rest of the series doesn't get released.

Yes, I agree and would be willing to purchase the set through their website.
Thanks for the info. I did purchase season 5, but was very disappointed that they were old, edited syndication cuts of the episode. And they didn't include the opening titles at the beginning of the episodes, which was super disappointing. I hadn't intended on buying another season after seeing that, but if these issues have been addressed (with a new company putting it out) I may consider it.

Don't consider it, do it!!!! But in all seriousness, the season 6 set is great! I've been enjoying it, the quality is pretty good, and the shows are complete and unedited! A major, major improvement over season 5!
treky 03-27-2008, 11:31 PM well, S'mores says that it's not selling good; and that may impact releases of the rest of the series, sadly: :( :(
Hazel Anyday 05-14-2010, 10:21 AM :( I don't know what all this talk of here that Season 6 is unedited, IT'S NOT. Each of the episodes on the Season 6 set I have is about 22 minutes long, not 25 or 26 as I've read here. I bought my Season 6 set a few months ago, maybe Smore has changed it and now puts out edited versions of the show, but somehow I doubt they'd go to the trouble of re-doing the set for that. All I can tell you that the episodes are 22 or 22 1/2 minutes long, that's it, and that means they're edited.
