Scarlett Johansson is to release her first album in May.

The actress recorded a collection of cover versions of tracks by American singer Tom Waits last summer.

The LP, entitled Anywhere I Lay My Head, also features members of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Celebration.

Johansson was reportedly considered for the role of Maria in Andrew Lloyd Webber's West End production of The Sound of Music in 2005.

The part eventually went to Connie Fisher after her victory in BBC talent search How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?.

Courtney Love is believed to have asked Johansson to play her in a forthcoming biopic of her late husband Kurt Cobain.

Anywhere I Lay My Head is scheduled for release on May 6.
