Oprah Winfrey is launching her own cable network, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

The talk show queen is teaming up with Discovery Networks to launch OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. Both parties will share 50/50 ownership of the new venture. However, Access has learned Oprah will have editorial control over the channel and it’s Web site.

OWN is slated to debut in 2009, on what is currently the Discovery Health Channel.

The new multi-platform venture will be designed to “entertain, inform and inspire people to live their best lives.”

“Fifteen years ago, I wrote in my journal that one day I would create a television network, as I always felt my show was just the beginning of what the future could hold,” Oprah said in a press release announcing the network. “For me, the launch of ‘The Oprah Winfrey Network’ is the evolution of the work I’ve been doing on television all these years and a natural extension of my show.”

More details to come!

So, no more Discovery Health Channel? I like that channel. Why doesn't her new network take over some stupid channel like those Korean channels no one watches or those that air infomercials all day long?

What else is new? It was only time before she got her own network. She already has everything else.

I'm interested in seeing what'll be on her network as well. Probably just all day reruns of her talk show-LOL

lol, I actually would be somewhat interested if they were early reruns from the '80's or '90's. That would be cool.

Yeah, when Oprah was more gangsterish-LOL. No, it'll probably just be all day marathons of the episode that aired the day before, just so Oprah know's everyone has a chance to see her on television.

I heard on the radio it will consist of women's health shows, other women-related shows, it will still work around what the Discovery Health Channel already airs, but more in tune with what Oprah already discusses on her show. My guess is Dr. Oz (a recurring guest on the Oprah show) will have his own medical show on this channel. BTW, Discovery Health Channel had a recurring medical show starring that plastic surgeon who operated on Kanye West's mother shortly before she died.
