Icelandic pop star Bjork has been accused of assaulting a photographer shortly after arriving in New Zealand. The quirky singer allegedly tore the shirt off the back of a paparazzo who tried to take her picture at Auckland International Airport on Sunday morning.

Glenn Jeffrey, an employee of the New Zealand Herald newspaper, was shocked by the 42-year-old's violent outburst. He says, "I took a couple of pictures... and as I turned and walked away, she came up behind me, grabbed the back of my black skivvy (long t-shirt) and tore it down the back. As she did this she fell to the ground. At no stage did I touch her or speak with her. "

The incident was reported to police who are now believed to be looking into CCTV footage from the airport. The photographer has expressed concerns over celebrities who believe they are above the law, adding, "If anybody assaults anybody you have the right to a legal recourse, whoever they are. I don't see being assaulted as I'm working as a press photographer as an acceptable thing."

This isn't the first time Bjork has been in trouble for scuffles with the paparazzi. The star famously attacked a reporter in Thailand in 1996 but later apologized for the incident and no charges were brought.

I can just picture her wearing her swan dress (the one she wore to the Oscars in '01) and dive-bombing the paparazzi.

you can look at this both ways- one, she was right to lash out and attack the reporter and two- the reporter deserved it because she was constantly harassing bjork and asking all sorts of questions and so she wouldn't stop. there are some celebrities who quite enjoy the press attention, and there are some who don't and prefer to lie down.

i don't think that violence is a good thing whatsoever, but when you have thousands of journos spying on you and writing all types of ****, just so they can get their story and get paid, you cannot help but question the intentions of these journalists and reporters.

having studied journalism at college and uni, a couple of years ago, i came to realise what a manipulative, greed ridden profession it really is by gossipping, spying and following people around and writing and printing all sorts of lies and gossip

She's my 'neighbor' here in NYC. I had no idea, till press showed up on the block, and I asked what was up? I saw her once wheeling some kid around here, does she have a kid? Anyway, she is strange, I said 'Hi' and she smiled, so I guess she is 'freindly' sometimes.

I'm sorry but that arguement doesn't work for me. If someone is constantly asking me questions and I respond by attacking them I would be arrested for assult. Bjork should be held accountable for her actions the same rules should apply for everyone.

but if a reporter keeps asking you questions and keep harassing you, you wouldn't deny that it is not bothering you. the press are just as much accountable for their actions, i mean, there hounding of people such as britney, bjork, princess diana to name just so they can get their story is just awful.

i've studied journalism at college and university and believe me, it's not what it seems

I agree, that is why I always find it funny that paparazzi always file charges if someone hits them.... they're asking for it!!! It's one thing to photograph celebrities when they're going to a movie premiere, or an awards show, or the opening of a trendy hotspot, but what these people do to Britney and the sort is just plain evil and I so wouldn't feel bad if someone close to Britney started shooting at them. After all, she's not even allowed to go to the restroom in peace.

The possible reason why she gets hostile around paparazzi types is that, from what I read, she was stalked by a psychotic figure several years ago who sent her a mail bomb and later committed suicide. So she appears to have good reason to be leary of "stalking" types.
