I am dying to see this. I heard it was released on a DVD, "All-Star Family Feud". Has anyone seen it or happen to remember it? What TV show did Benson go up against? :D

I have no recollection of them on the Feud. I've been checking out various reviews of the set. Gosh, what a confusing description on the guests! The other shows Benson could have competed against were One Day at a Time, Dallas and Eight is Enough.

Here's how one place listed it:
Dallas vs. Eight is Enough & One Day at A Time vs. Benson.

Source: http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Family-Feud-All-Star-Family-Feud-Details-Date/8209

...

OK, after more review reviewing, I *think* I might have figured it out, but again it's so confusing, I could be completely off on this.

It looks like Benson went up against One Day at a Time, while Dallas went up against Eight is Enough. The winners of those two shows went up against each other, thus: Dallas vs. One Day at a Time.

Does that seem right? If anyone could check me on this, I'd appreciate it!

++++

I wonder who of the cast played? I wonder who the best player was?

Yes, see the review I posted of the set on the blog. Jan. 5's blog.

Darn...I should have mentioned to not give away how it ends. I was just wondering what show they went up against.

Oh well, I can't talk...that A-Z thread is chock full of spoilers courtesy of me. :p

Then I wonder which one I'm thinking of....I could swear Missy played in the final round but when she was a teenager. Was she on the show another time, not as part of the Benson cast?

By the way do you have that episode on DVD? :D

I picked up the All Star Family Feud DVD today at Best- Buy. There's no index on the box or the disc's so I skipped though all 4 disc's to find any shows with the cast of Benson on them. There is only one and it is on disc #3 and the players are. Guillaume, Noble, Swenson, McWilliams and Stadlien.
This was not the same show that I recorded off GSN a few years ago because McWilliams was not in that one but Gold was. The good news is that Robert Guillaume does however appear in some shows called TV all-Stars on disc #4.
This DVD release may only be the tip of the iceberg and I have no ideal how many episodes of Family Feud the cast of Benson appeared on but if they release anymore DVD's I hope they will include the rest of them. Anyway for only nineteen bucks there's hours of fun and laughs here and if you're a fan of Eight is Enough, Soap, or The Dukes of Hazard  :barf: you'll love this DVD release, their casts appear a number of times.
P.S. I forgot how cute ( Big Time Hottie) Charlene Tilton of Dallas was. :eyes: :notworthy

Ah, well that actually makes more sense that Missy was not on this one. I mean, she was very intelligent for her age but the fact is she was only 9 or 10 years old when this episode of Family Feud was taped, so she would really be at a disadvantage in answering some of the questions. (Did you say she handed out the trophies for this one though?)

I'm glad she did appear on the show as a teenager. I'm sure she did pretty well with it. At any rate, I'm looking forward to seeing all of these at some point. Not sure if I really want to buy it though.

Missy did appear on the show that I recorded off GSN and it has to have been made in 79-90 because Lewis Stadlien was on it. Yes she was tiny and had to stand on a box, but despite her age she truned out to be one of the best players on the cast. :clap :clap

Interesting...then there must have been more than one occasion with the cast appearing on the show.

Glad to hear Missy did very well at her age. Not that I'm really surprised since she was so smart; I just figured if one side had all adults, then they would have all adults on the other side to make it more "fair", although I don't know who Missy went up against, maybe another child star?

No she was the only child on the show, she was really smart you know. Anyway I put together some pic's. The one's on top are from the show that Missy was on, it's the one I recoreded off GNS a few years back and the one's one the bottom are from the show on the DVD.

Ok, I just watched Benson vs. One Day At A Time, and I have to say....

(In case you don't want a spoiler, don't scroll down.....)

Massively disappointed! Not so much them losing but that we never got to hear a peep out of Inga or JN. This was the second time Inga has appeared on the DVD (the first as a villain), and NEITHER time did I hear from her! BOOO!!! :thumbsdow

Strange that this episode was filmed 9-23-79. The show was BRAND SPANKING NEW!! A lot of people probably weren't familiar with it yet. I know I wasn't but then I was only 8 and wasn't watching a lot of TV in the fall of '79 (new neighborhood, new school....I mean we JUST moved right around this time. I just started 3rd grade and I'm sure I had a ton of homework. :p )

I'd just turned 9 and didn't even know what Benson was. ...Anyway here's those pic's from 1984 when Missy Gold was on Super Teen Famliy Feud. This was one of those five segment deals were they probably taped all the games on the same day and had the players change cloths between games so they could air them as five different shows.
I don't know if any one else ever did it in the history of Famliy Feud but poor Missy sure had her doubts rather or not that stupid button was working right or not.

Yeah but I'll tell you what...those were happier times and I think the general feel was reflected in the clothes, hairstyles, etc. It was just having fun, you know? I really miss those days sometimes although I personally never went overboard with it like some other people did. :p

I noticed they shot that Benson vs. ODAAT episode on September 23, 1979. I was born exactly 3 days earlier - and was still in the hospital!!

Interesting trivia!!! I just finished reading Lewis Stadlen's memoir, Acting Foolish. He revealed that he had smoked weed right before the Benson cast taped their second appearance on Family Feud. He was completely high when Robert Guillaume pushed him into the spotlight with Richard Dawson to play Fast Money!! I guess Lewis was completely stoned when giving his answers, but thanks to Inga Swenson also playing Fast Money, the Benson team won. I have GOT to see this episode now!!!!! I've only seen the other one, where they were beat soundly by the One Day at a Time cast.

Now that's some funny stuff! Who would've ever thought Lewis was such a party animal in his younger days.
Considering some of the other Fast Money answers over the years, maybe he wasn't the only one who smoked weed before the show. :drink:

catlover79

Well, according to the book, he really wasn't a party animal but drank and smoked weed recreationally at that time. He didn't like doing the show or his character (and Taylor was hands down the most under-developed, one-dimensional character in the bunch). During Lewis' one season on Benson, he was still married to his first wife, had a toddler-aged daughter and baby #2 was on the way. He also missed NYC and the stage. I think it was his way of rebelling and forcing the producers to let him go...and it worked.

To be fair, Lewis has nothing but kind things to say about his co-stars - James Noble, Inga Swenson, Caroline McWilliams and Missy Gold. He also mentions Bob Guillaume's considerable talent and "marvelous" singing voice, but that the two did butt heads on occasion. Lewis also mentions that during and after that Fast Money round, being high and giving so many inane answers, he was afraid to look at Bob.

I may have to look into this at some point. Thanks for posting those pics.

When you say we don't hear from James or Inga in the episode on the DVD, they don't say a word? Not even in the intros? :) The Benson cast must not have fared very well in that particualr episode, then. hehe

From the cast's first appearance on FF:

Robert Guillaume later appeared on FF as part of "Phyllis' (Diller's) Fighters" in the "Battle of the Perfect 10s". He appeared with then-LA Dodgers catcher Steve Yeager (who later had a small role as a coach in Major League), talk show host Gary Collins, and then-The Young & The Restless star (and son of former President Gerald Ford) Steven Ford.

Inga Swenson appeared again on FF in a "Heroes vs. Villains" special along with Katherine MacGregor (Little House on the Prairie), James Best (Dukes of Hazzard), and movie actors Paul L. Smith and Henry Silva.

Yup, the first batch of pictures would be the show where Lewis Stadlen was as high as a kite!! Not a very good example to the little miss to his right!!
