View Full Version : Have you lost someone to Cancer?
MonarC 01-13-2008, 12:51 PM A friend of mine passes a few years ago due to Bone Cancer. Now I found out recently that my dad also has Colon Cancer. He had 2 surgeries and almost died. Now he is ok and recovering but he has another surgery in 6 months and I am terrified of losing him. Last September I also lost my grandmother. We were very close and I still think about her everyday. I try to be positive and not let my depression take over my everyday life but it is a struggle. :(
TripperFan 01-13-2008, 12:55 PM Yes, unfortunately I've lost a few friends and (distant) family members to cancer.
catlover79 01-13-2008, 12:56 PM Yes, I lost my grandmother (dad's mom) to colon cancer in 2000. My other grandmother died of gall bladder cancer in 1995. A cousin of my mom's was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2005, but she seems to be doing OK now. One of my best friends died of colon cancer in 2006. Also, that's what Elizabeth Montgomery (Bewitched) died of. :( I'm sorry to hear about your dad...I hope and pray that he beats it!!
Brian Damage 01-13-2008, 12:58 PM I lost both my Grandfathers to cancer. My grandmother currently has breast cancer.
*ClassicPinUp* 01-13-2008, 01:01 PM I lost my Grandma (mom's mom) years ago to breast cancer. She was diagnosed way before I was born and refused any treatment... she lived for 35+ years. She was one hell of a fighter. Cancer wasn't the main thing that killed her (she had other health issues) but it had come back.

Thank you very much I really appreciate that. Believe me I have done a lot of praying myself.

ABlairican Pie 01-13-2008, 04:15 PM I lost my mother to cancer a little over three years ago. Cancer left from a hysterectomy that spread to the liver, lungs, and lymph nodes.
MonarC 01-13-2008, 04:45 PM I really hope someday they find a cure for Cancer and Diabetes. My grandmother suffered with Diabetes her whole 82 years of life.

MonarC 01-13-2008, 05:24 PM WOW! I am really shocked by how many people here in this message board have been affected by cancer in one way or another.
PZelda 01-13-2008, 07:22 PM A cousin of mine was diagnosed with cervical cancer on her 17th birthday in 2001, but the docs caught it early enough that hysterectomy was an option for her. She had that done... she's been in remission since August of 2001 and was declared cancer-free in August of 2006.
So, no losses in the family due to cancer, but I HAVE had a family member diagnosed w/ cancer.
Mr. Television 01-13-2008, 07:23 PM Yea I lost my Grandfather and my Aunt to cancer. I just found out recently that my cousin's husband has it and they don't think he's going to make it. I hope everything turns out alright for your Dad. :(

Yes, that's what they say now, that basically everyone has been touched by cancer one way or another. I had skin cancer a few years back (not melanoma tho thankfully).
I hope everything goes well for your father (as well as anyone having to deal with this horrible disease).
LuLu Rogers 01-13-2008, 07:38 PM I lost my grandfather, my great grandmother, and several great aunts and uncles to cancer.
80s_Fan 01-13-2008, 08:24 PM :(
I've lost my mother, and some uncles & aunts. My boyfriend lost his oldest brother. Two of my friends, lost their parents; one was her father, and the other lost both of them. It's so sad, and not fair.
:(

MonarC 01-13-2008, 09:15 PM Wow! Janice that must have been really rough on you. :(
I lost my grandmother to ovarian cancer in the 1970's. My dad died in 2003 from colon cancer which spread to his liver.
MonarC 01-13-2008, 11:36 PM Im sorry about your dad. I am worried that is what might happen to my dad. :(
The doctors didn't find it early enough with my dad, it was already in advanced stages. Hopefully they'll be able to treat your dad's cancer, I certainly hope so. My husband's uncle also has been treated for it and he's doing pretty well. I wish your dad the best of luck and will keep him in my thoughts & prayers.
Janice 01-14-2008, 01:52 AM Wow! Janice that must have been really rough on you. :(
Thanks, it was brutal. Having two terminally ill parents at the same time was so awful. The hardest part was the 9 and 10 months before, when they wasted away. I was relieved for them when they finally passed on, as they were out of their misery.
Family Fan 01-14-2008, 02:27 AM Aunts, Uncles. I myself, have fought Cancer, and defeated it. I believe in Wholistic methods and Naturopathic attacks on the many facets of cancer. It's a dreadful disease and has no consceince. :(
