I wasn't around on SO when it happened, but I did post it on another board, so I'll copy what happened. This was during Roseanne's "controversial" telling off of a gay Republican on her show, and she did damage control by giving out her number and asking for callers to add their two cents because she was afraid of hurting what has been a great union with her and her gay fanbase.

OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Roseanne gave out her talk shows phone number and wanted fans to call in and give feedback over her recent apology for her outburst to a caller. I waited on hold for about ten minutes but when it got to me, it was surreal. I started off by telling her that I have been watching her sitcom since I was eight and have all the DVD's and that as a gay adolescent in the early 90's, she and Madonna were it for me. She was really sweet and could tell I was nervous.

Then I proceeded to tell her that I understood her sentiment, just that she phrased it wrongly, since I slip of the tongue badly too. And that I agree what she means that we all, regardless of being gay, race, gender, religion and whatever, we should bond together and try to unite for the greater good instead of fragmentizing everything. She then was nice to me and thanked me for "getting" her comments and understanding that sometimes you say things on the spur of the moment that you don't necessarily mean.

She also proceeded to tell me how much she loves her gay fans, and I told her that when I was growing up and confused about my sexuality, that watching her show was a help because she had gay characters on there that were treated as normal characters, and that is Roseanne could have gay people on her show, than maybe there was nothing wrong with it, and she told me that it meant a lot to her because that was what she was trying to do with Nancy and Leon.

It was so freaking great. I have been a fan for nearly 20 years and Roseanne's my fave sitcom ever, so actually talking to the Domestic Goddess can make me die easily.
