Was a statement by Robert Stack on one of the episodes of unsolved mysteries i saw yesterday.
Does anybody know whether this is still the same?
With all the updates in technology and forensic testing has this figure gone down much?
Also are there as many murders in the US today? Or maybe even more???

With a stat like that though, there is no surprise that Unsolved Mysteries lasted for over 500 episodes....

It doesn't look like the number of murders ever quite reached 30,000, but the absolute number and rate has gone down in recent years.

And you must take into consideration that out of this 40% that have been "solved," there is probably a small percentage of them where the wrong person got convicted.

Interesting stuff.
So there would be plenty of content to make new episodes....
