View Full Version : Tommy D three stages.
miniZackMorris 01-11-2008, 10:53 PM Adamantium, u got me thinking. Tommy D had three stages.
season 1=stage 1, the tough jock.
season 2=stage 2, the still tough jock but a little longer hair and not a serious.
season 3=stage 3, a jock but not serious sort of dummer and really care free.
bttf4444 01-11-2008, 11:23 PM It is sort of strange how Tommy D kind of went from being a tough jock to being a bit of a dufus. I actually kind of liked him better as a dufus. It is sort of a drastic change in character, but I guess they were trying to make him be a little less like AC Slater. Although, AC Slater was kind of the least intelligent one in the group. Even Zack and Lisa seemed to be a little more intelligent.
Adamantium 01-11-2008, 11:52 PM Plus, Tommy seemed sort of stiff in the first season. But that was probably because of Jonathan Angel's performance. He seemed to loosen up some in the second season. Maybe the addition of the leather jacket made him feel better, lol. He was very dumb in the third season, but he became lovable.
One can only wonder how dumb he would have gotten if he had returned for the fourth season. I mean some people figured Screech couldn't get any worse, but each season he proved them wrong, lol.
miniZackMorris 01-12-2008, 08:29 AM i kno and maybe he got less serious in the second season because scott was stop trying to press up on his woman

Yeah, I guess that could be the in-universe reason for why he changed. :)
miniZackMorris 01-12-2008, 12:46 PM nobody wass really as geeky as wesal though
bttf4444 01-12-2008, 02:32 PM I didn't really care for Weazel as much. I thought he was kind of a poor imitation of Screech.

I'm in the minority here, but I liked Weasel. I understand that with Screech back, it wouldn't have worked to have two main nerds. And I liked Bobby, however, when I watched this show and got to the second season, Weasel was the one I missed the most from season one.

weasel was good. (for therteen episodes:confused: )
bttf4444 01-13-2008, 06:50 AM I wonder if there's anyone who likes Weasel but not Screech. I think people who don't like Screech generally like Weasel even less. I didn't mind the Zack equivalents at all - but I guess it's just that Weasel looked too much like Screech, without actually being Screech. To be fair, though, had I been exposed to Weasel first - then I'd maybe feel the same of Screech.
miniZackMorris 01-13-2008, 08:46 AM i guess thats why he left

I remember when I first saw Weasel and thought he was just a chubbier Screech.
Weasel WAS too much like Screech, and I assume that's why he left since they were bringing back Screech.
And you're right. Weasel looked like Screech, while Scott (Zack's replacement) didn't look like Zack. Also Scott was more of a jerk than Zack. While you were able to have some compassion for Zack, you didn't get that for Scott. He was just some cocky teenager, trying to break up Lindsay and Tommy so he could date Lindsay himself.
miniZackMorris 01-13-2008, 02:41 PM i agry
bttf4444 01-13-2008, 08:03 PM I remember that one episode where Scott schemes to get Lindsay for himself, and Tommy pretty much bullies Scott into telling Lindsay the truth. I thought there was a certain amount of dissonance in that. Tommy acts like such a jerk, you can't help but feel sorry for Scott. On the other hand, though, Tommy has every right to be angry with Scott for taking away with his girlfriend.
I guess it looks so familiar to the Zack/Kelly/Slater situation - but the major difference is, Tommy already was dating Lindsay. So, by all right, Scott should have respected that Lindsay was already taken.
The situation between Ryan/Lindsay/Tommy is much more similar - because Tommy and Lindsay had broken up the previous year. So, in that season, Lindsay was available - so, in this case, it wasn't wrong for Ryan to persue Lindsay.

I agree 100%.
When I first watched the show (back in 1993), I sided with Scott. And I thought of Tommy as a jerk. However, when I bought the DVD and started watching it again (2005) I realized pretty much what you just said.
I liked Lindsay and Tommy as a couple. Part of me felt bad for Scott that he wasn't around when Lindsay and Tommy broke up. And I wanted to see Tommy get back together with Lindsay. Maybe that's why I didn't like Ryan in the third season. But Ryan had every right to pursue her, for the reason you gave.
In the end, it really doesn't matter. Scott, Tommy, Lindsay and Ryan don't even finish the series, lol. All this talk and in the final season, none of these characters are a part of the show.
bttf4444 01-14-2008, 08:24 AM I know that is the common complaint many people have about The New Class, is that none of the characters have stayed the same. The only character that's stayed the same from the beginning to the end was Mr. Belding. Even Screech didn't return until the second season.
miniZackMorris 01-14-2008, 12:29 PM scott dosent even make it past season one
EccentricGenius 02-06-2023, 04:26 PM I couldn't agree with you more, miniZackMorris. Tommy "Tommy D" DeLuca (portrayed by Jonathan Angel) was reduced from a leather jacket-wearing iconoclast with common sense to a hopeless pea-brained lunkhead in the third season of Saved By The Bell: The New Class. Despite his tough, street-smart exterior, "Tommy D" made the equally dimwitted Ox (Troy Fromin) from the original SBTB look like a Rhodes scholar by comparison.
