Having skimmed though it myself, I don't think I'd care for the movie.

"The nerdy, formerly fat analyst portion of Max will be disturbing to many of you, as it was to me. The movie's 99 is hyper-violent, aggressive, and domineering. She constantly belittles Max for his inexperience and mistakes." WT.............???????!!!!!!!! The more I hear about this movie, the more i HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE IT!!!!!:mad: :mad: :mad:
WHY do they think they have to change characters we love, just to make it more modern? The only good thing about this is, like the Lost in Space movie, there's unlikely to be a sequel cause, this sounds like its going to STINK!!!!!

LOL --- I just read recently, no kidding, and I'm slightly positive that a sequel is already being discussed, but I can't remember where I read this.... I'll get abck to you on that.

ONE THING I was shocked to see was it had been in talks and kinda began in 1999!! :eek: (the one that comes out this June)

Its a shame that anyone can buy the rights to a property then change it in any way they like.....I think i shall boycott this film!! :mad: :mad: :mad: (And any true GS fan should do the same)

Yeah it doesn't sound much like the show at all to me. Except maybe a couple things.

I saw where there's some original cast members that didn't seem to have been asked to make a cameo. I was saddened (that a word? lol) to see Ms. Feldon on the list. (I thought it would have been cute to maybe see her as 99's mom or something) But then I thought, maybe that's a good thing! lol (like with The Nude Bomb movie)

I haven't seen nearly as much of it as some other shows, but whenever the chance comes I'll watch it. Don Adams always made me laugh. :lol:

Right. I had either forgotten (until recently) that Mr. Adams had done the voice of "Gadget" or hadn't realized.

Did you know he did an *extremely* short "cameo" in the movie starring Matthew Brodrick and Jolie Fisher? Don was the voice of Brain the dog at the very end of the movie when Penny was trying to get a hold of him with her watch.

Strangely, he seems to have cribbed his acting style from Harold Llyod....watch the movie "The Milky way" and youll see what i mean!

well, according to an e-mail I got from the guy who runs that site, there's an article in the L.A. Times that says that about Mel, but he hasn't gotten a quote from him. He hopes too in the coming months, though, and also ones from Buck Henry and Leanord Stern.

We're finally seeing teasers for the movie downunder and it looked visually fine but then Steve Farrell did the 'missed it by that much' line and there's no comparison. Sounded awful. I'm definitely waiting for a TV showing.

I am going to say that Get Smart The Movie will be the #1 Movie This Summer

Wow- I just saw "Get Smart" yesterday in theaters. But I don't think it'll be the number one movie of the summer. I think that title would go to a movie like "Iron Man", "The Incredible Hulk", "The Dark Knight", "Prince Caspian", or "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull":)
But "Get Smart" was incredibly hilarious! I liked a lot of things about it. Yes, it wasn't (and will never be) the same as seeing Don Adams and Ed Platt in their signature roles as Maxwell Smart (Agent 86) and The Chief, but it wasn't bad either. At least I couldn't fault them for not using the original cast in this case- I understood that for this one.:( (I still don't understand the reasoning for movies like "The Dukes of Hazzard"- I would much rather have seen an older John Schneider and Tom Wopat- not to mention a different script)
But of the various TV show-to-movie adaptations I've seen or seen some of- this was still way better than other movies- like the "Charlie's Angels" movies or "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie, or "The Honeymooners" or "Bewitched" or "The Brady Bunch" movies or "Starsky & Hutch" and probably others I'm forgetting.
It's hard to think of many movie versions of TV shows that actually are good really. Maybe "The Addams Family" movies or "The Flintstones" movies. Obviously the "Star Trek" movies are one of the best examples.
And there actually were 2 earlier "Get Smart" movies, including 1980's "The Nude Bomb" (which still starred Don Adams as Maxwell Smart, and Dana Elcar ("Pete Thornton" on "MacGyver") as The Chief- Ed Platt died in 1974, but no 99) and a 1989 TV-movie, I believe- called "Get Smart Again" (with Don Adams and Barbara Feldon still on board)
Anyway- there were a lot of things incorporated from the show that was great to see- the classic theme song, the opening sequence (with the closing doors and telephone booth and everything) and Max's catchphrases- "Would you believe...?" and "Missed it by that much".
There's a lot of witty repartee between Max and 99- Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway pulled that off well. And I liked Alan Arkin as The Chief. Also, Terence Stamp (probably best known as Zod on "Superman II") was there as Siegfried and David Koechner played Larabee. I would have thought Barbara Feldon might have made a cameo, but I don't think I noticed her- except maybe her picture was on The Chief's desk- but I may be wrong about that. I thought it looked like her.
And Bernie Kopell (Doc from "The Love Boat") was in there as Opel Driver (better known to "Get Smart" fans as Siegfried on the original show!) Oh yeah- and Bill Murray was really funny as Agent 13! (His bit reminded of a gag from "The Red Green Show" :-)) And Ken Davitian played a really funny Starker. And Patrick Warburton had a funny role as Hymie!
And though some of them were in bit roles, there were a lot of funny actors and actresses I like from different movies, and it was neat seeing them together in one movie! (A few from some of my favorite Christmas movies- like James Caan from "Elf" and Kevin Nealon from "All I Want for Christmas")
and Larry Miller was there (the principal in "Max Keeble's Big Move"- another of my favorite comedies)
They use the "Cone of Silence" in the movie too- that's classic!:)
It was still CONTROL vs. KAOS - but it was set in present times and KAOS was considered to be defunct since the end of the Cold War, and thus CONTROL was largely shut down too- and there was some sort of museum for the glory days of the '60s- showcasing some of Don Adams' props from the original series- the red car, the shoe phone, etc. (And Max does use these items in the movie too.)
Anyway- they did a lot of good stuff in the movie and kept true to the spirit of the show. I mean, the show was originally created as a parody of all those spy movies, particularly the James Bond movies. (Which, by the way, James Bond is mentioned in the movie.)
What I would caution viewers on though is the fact that it's rated PG-13. This is here mainly for a lot of foul language (and even though some was spoken in another language, they showed the English translation written on the screen- which was basically an excuse to fit more foul language in the movie with the lame excuse that they "didn't actually say it".)
There's also a good number of innuendos as well as something of a gay kiss between Max and another male agent. Though this one didn't set too well with me- keep in mind that it's not meant to be gay or sexual at all- it's totally done for laughs and makes sense with the storyline- I think many will find it totally innocuous, but it's the kinda thing you wouldn't want to explain to young children.
Anyway, I enjoyed the movie- but I wish it wasn't so foul with language and innuendos and such. I don't remember the original TV show ever using such crude language (or a single curse word, for that matter) and it was still incredibly hilarious all the time. It's sad because they're obviously some talented writers and actors and actresses who are all quite funny- but I just wish they'd realize they can still be very funny without being crude.
But they did dedicate the movie to Don Adams and Ed Platt and they kept true to the spirit of the show, aside from the grievances I've already listed. But go see it yourself- it may be the funniest movie you've ever seen!
(Would you believe second funniest movie? Would you believe funniest movie this summer? Or maybe you'll think it missed it by this much! Either way, give it a shot.)

When will Hollywood quit? They make ****ty movies nonstop, but now they hit rock bottom when they make movies out of TV shows. The original series is a classic, this movie looks like crap. I wont go nowhere near it.

Of course there wasn't any bad language in the Series, well certain ones. It was back in the 60s! You weren't allowed to do that! (Thank goodness)

And (in the preview) that thing with Max in the room with 99 as she wraps her robe around her... Yeah right! *Never* in the show! I mean you couldn't even say anything that sounded remotely to something 'graphic'.

Like on the DVD (for example) one of the notes from the station tells them to make sure 99's line to Max in 'Casablanca' doesn't sound like she wants to you know.. The line deals with her wanting to change her clothes.

I grew up watching Get Smart (from the 1980s and onwards) and I can honestly say that the screenwriters actually did their research!!! :eek: Steve Carell does a great Max (Don Adams is smiling in heaven) and Anne Hathaway's 99 is very charming. She is a little different from Barbara Feldon's version but not as bad as other critics made her out to be. I can gladly say that my money was well spent. Would you believe it? You should. ;)

I noticed on TV Time life is offering the entire series 138 uncut episodes plus bonus material!
But I suspect that they will get you hooked with the "Pay Just $9.95 " and then they will start sending,begging pleading, basicaly bugging the crap out of you to by more dvd's of other shows.
I would buy if I new they would not hound me like that I love the show and the way the networks cut scenes right and left I would like to get 138 uncut episodes if they are truly uncut.

If anyone else has bought these let us know if they are truly uncut episodes also a final price would be nice.

P.S I just checked thier website the price is $199.95 before taxes that is.

It's made almost 80 million at the box office, and got a lot of good reviews. To think that after more than 40 years, a favorite tv show was hitting the big screen, I'd be thrilled. I'll never understand why people get so insulted when one of their favorite old tv shows is made into a movie. Some people hate it before they see it. I think it's a tribute, and if I was a Get Smart fan, I'd want to see it.

I find it difficult to put into words why I had an instant dislike to this movie coming out. Plot changes to the original, other actors performing classic lines. I didn't mind what they did with the Beverley Hillbillies or the Brady Bunch but hated Bewitched. I guess it comes down to what you know you like from teasers and word of mouth. From what I've seen it's going down the wrong road for me. Naturally it's not going to be the same with everyone and it's doing well. Good on it but this Get Smart fan won't be seeing it at the movies. I'll watch A Man Called Smart instead.

For me, it's not the idea of new actors that bothers me, so much as they changed the characters themselves...and that, I can't support, for instance, I hated the 1989 Batman movie because they made the Joker the killer of Bruce Wayne's parents (instead of Joe Chill) and totally changed Bruce Wayne's character into a wimp, so that Micheal Keaton wouldnt look quite as miscast in the role, as he was! I haven't seen this movie and i'm not likely to.

I was at the movies this past Wed. My mother had taken my brother's two children to see Wall*E, while I went in to see Indiana Jones 4 for the 3rd time. (lol) (But I think I've decided to see Wall*E when it comes out on DVD).

And there were only 3 of us in the theatre. Me and an elderly couple that was sitting a few rows above me. They said they'd seen the new GS movie and was dissapointed in it. I told them how I'd read and heard things on it and was a big fan of the series, but had no desire to see the new film. They also mentioned seeing the original series years back.

I'm rewatching the series on my 20 year old tapes.....of course, I hope to get the DVDs soon and see season 5, for the very first time!

Could be worse though, when i was a kid, we got the newest Hollywood movies 6 months later! :lol:

And before that, once a movie went out of theaters, you were probably never going to see it again.
