View Full Version : I need a brain test, and fast!
Janice Johnson 01-09-2008, 10:44 PM I fear I am getting worse as I get older! I seem to be seriously regressing in my mental maturity age, and I do not behave the way a 23 year old should be behaving. I am okay intellectually, as I can see errors in every day things, like kknowing something is off-kilter when a guy on the street offers me a "real "10 K gold ring for only 10 dollars, or when someone claims I won the 10 million lottery and I just have to send him $100.00 in order to get the money. But, I think I act like a litle child, and no one thinks it's cute. I think my maturity age is a 10. Nobody finds a grown woman who acts like she is 10 to be cute. It's been that way all my life. I've always behaved like a little child, even after being a teen. I seriously need to go to a doctor and have my mind tested. I seriously need to know what's going on with me, why i continue to act like a little kid.:(
dawsongirl 01-09-2008, 11:04 PM I don't really think such a thing as a "brain test" exists. A psychologist would be your best bet.

Baked fish is disgusting

Yeah, I agree.
Max Whittaker 01-10-2008, 01:18 AM Nothing wrong with being childlike, as long as you're not hurting anyone or letting it get in the way of you life.
bingbangbaby 01-10-2008, 02:21 AM It's really about how you function on a day to day basis. Childlike and young at heart is fine...but if you're playing with children's toys all day instead of doing things you should be doing, or not going to work or not being responsible in the areas of your life that you should be (like paying bills) then there's a problem. If you're functioning as an adult but you just feel like a 10 year old or enjoy things meant for 10 year olds, then you're ok. :)

Actually I think it might be getting in the way of her life - from what I've seen in the choice of men.
Janice, were your parents over protective at all? Did they shelter you from things growing up? That could have something to do with it.
It could also be that you're very lonely, so you act immature hoping someone will "take you under their wing". That's the feeling I've gotten from your posts. You're overly trusting people because you want to be liked and hope each one you meet will be the person that you can depend on a protect you.

Oh my god, how many times did I have to use the number 10?
Janice Johnson 01-10-2008, 12:25 PM But seriously, Tripper Fan is right. My parents and my other family members have always sheltered me and protected me. They've also coddled me all my life. Which is probably why I feel immature right now. I've always been kept on a tight leash, which is fine and right when a person is a little kid and when they are a teenager, but when a 23 year old is still being kept on a tight leash, it just seems wrong.

That's what I figured. You either stay immature or rebel (which isn't a great answer to it either).
You need to pull away from your parents a bit more and get more independent. They might give you a bit of a rough time about it but just be honest and tell them you're an adult now and it's time you matured. Tell them if they raised you properly, then you shouldn't go astray and will be just fine. You need to find friends and boyfriends who you aren't as dependent on but more of a equal in the relationship. Stop allowing yourself to be taken advantage of.

I agree. By 23, if you aren't in college, you should be thinking about what you want to do with your life, or at least for the time being. If you dont work already, i'd find a full-time job that you may enjoy. It'll get you out of your parents house for a few hours a day, anyways, you'd be making your own money, etc. If you do have a job and it's going good, maybe get your own apartment if you can afford it? I agree that if you feel immature, this is probably the reason. There is nothing wrong with your brain, you just need to make some life changes.

If people keep teenagers on too tight of a leash, they begin to feel immature too, and begin to do immature things. If your parents kept you on a tight leash at least when you were in your late teens, this is definitely contributing to what you're feeling now, as the teenage years are years people explore the upcoming adulthood and what they may want to do about it.
Instead of assuming that the reason you are immature is because your parents are overprotective, maybe the reason your parents are overprotective is because you have always been immature.
*Happy Face* 01-10-2008, 11:06 PM Don't worry honey, I'm almost 29 and I still live with my parents. I had
learning disabilities when I was in school and was fortunate
enough to even graduate from high school. I unemployed but that
doesn't stop me. I spend my day writing stories on my computer.Every
so often I print them and read them to my family.
