View Full Version : NBC is actually on top!
JulieSomoski 01-08-2008, 08:11 PM I was looking at the daily ratings today, and I just realized that NBC came in first place last week by A LOT, beating out CBS, ABC, and FOX, for the first time in like years!
I don't blame them, either. They probably have the best new midseason schedule, plus new hits American Gladiators, Celebrity Apprentice, and a whole lot of Deal and No Deal. Plus they have Medium, which did better than most of NBC's new fall shows - too bad every other network had tons of repeats-LOL
Dean Winchester 01-08-2008, 08:12 PM Medium's ratings are doing well? Great!!! I don't watch it in first run but it's a show I enjoy catching up with on DVD
Good for NBC! They are definately my favorite network right now. So many good shows airing....way to go, NBC! Their midseason schedule has me watching more network TV than I have in ages. They've promoted their new shows like crazy and seem to be really trying.
And I'm sure the return of Law and Order (and new episodes) isn't exactly hurting.
Pavan 01-08-2008, 08:33 PM Well, the 25 million for the NFL playoff game on Saturday from 8-11pm certainly helps. Without that, they would have been close to other networks even with all the new stuff they aired.

and now that there won't be anymore NBC football we will see what the real deal is-lol
JulieSomoski 01-09-2008, 04:31 PM Football sure helped, but it actually does have a great midseason lineup - was better than the other networks. It helps that it has shows the reality shows like Deal or No Deal and even now Celebrity Apprentice, but once American Idol comes around, NBC can kiss their lead goodbye.
Didn't Medium get around 10 million? And it was benched for midseason this year . . . it was doing worse last year.
Pavan 01-09-2008, 04:36 PM Celebrity Apprentice just has aired once. Wait until it faces CSI and Grey's Anatomy this week then when they go into reruns it'll face Lost. Medium got 9.6 million (it did 9.33 million on the first Wednesday of January last year)...about a million or so higher than last season on Wednesdays. When it aired on Mondays before it was doing 12-15 million on average. Without any competition, shows like The Biggest Loser, Apprentice, American Gladiators will do well. Here is a fun fact...Deal or No Deal has aired on every night this season at least once but Saturday.

NBC should air it on Saturdays . . . it would probably do well. Deal or No Deal is bigger than ever once again with most other shows in repeats.
I was shocked to find out American Gladiators was doing opver 10 million. I was really expecting that show to bomb, but I guess I was wrong. Did anyone catch that?
NBC should have help Apprentice until Grey's Anatomy and CSI air their final episodes. It may have smarter to wait than to probably get killed in the second episode. What do you think Lost will do for ABC? I'm expecting the same for last season . . . around 12-14 million.
megamanj2004 01-09-2008, 05:14 PM Well as long as NBC continues to do this great, it'll be just like how they were the #1 network for most of the late '80s-early '90s.
I had a feeling AG was gonna do good and boy was I right!
At least it's a refresher from all the reality-show hooplas over the last quarter of a decade we've seen.
NBC makes no sense to me as long as they keep "Friday Night Lights" on Fridays. The show posted its highest rating to date last season when it had a special airing on a Monday, but NBC has yet to try putting it there ever again.

All these Deal or No Deal airings they have had still doesn't beat what it was doing on Mondays at 8PM the last few seasons...when it did 15 million+. Ever since Dancing with the Stars came to Mondays, Deal has been below 12 million or less. Airing it on Saturdays would be overkill. Sure it does well, but they are really overplaying it. They should air two times a week max...last week they aired it like 3-4 times. Some weeks it airs as much as 5 times.
American Gladiators has done like 10 million, but that is not the strength of the show. Its strength is 18-49 and so far it has done very well. I expect it to continue do well in that demo. I don't think Apprentice will keep up what it did in the premiere at all. Same goes for Biggest Loser when the competition comes.
Well Lost is now back to airing in the 9pm hour, so it will do better. Plus no new CSI episodes to compete...Celebrity Apprentice is not good competition I think. I think we will see what Lost did last fall, over 16 million or so.

Deal or no Deal right now during the strike is airing more than Millionaire was airing around 2000 . . . and millionaire was doing like more than double what DOND is doing. It was doing best on Monday's, but since the startof the season it was getting around/less than 10 million, and it's doing better now, which is no surprise, since there's a strike.
I really don't think Apprentice will fall that hard. Maybe to 8 million, but I don't see it going down more than that. If viewers were interested with the first episode, they'll most likely tune into the second episode. At least it's doing better than it was doing Mondays at 10pm last season.
Is there no set schedule for DOND every week? Seems like it airs sporadically.

Wednesday at 8 is a regular timeslot definitely.
The Monday at 8 airing is taking a hiatus next month.
Could always be special airings(like we saw on Sunday).

not to be rude Pav, but can you ever reply to a topic about a network that isn't ABC without belittling the other network compared to how great you think ABC is?

It just seems to pop up. It was airing a lot lately cause they had that million dollar quest or whatever they called it.
Mrgman 01-11-2008, 11:08 PM NBC is my favorite channel. NFL football, 1 VS 100, Deal or no deal, Celebrity apprentice and my favorite show Days of our lives
