well, I like Mariah too. But you are forgetting the whole Glitter era in 2001. Mariah was then what Britney is now, remember the TRL appearence with the ice cream and the strip-tease? that was a trainwreck if ever there was one. Then she checked herself into the hospital. Granted, she's certainly recovered from it, but you can't forget that several years ago, Mariah was certainly a trainwreck and that TRL appearence is classic for the wrong reasons.

I don't think Mariah is a whore at all, but I do agree with SBTB on the fact that she can't fit into size 0, but yet she still does it and it's really tragic on her. She's an attractive healthy woman, but she needs to wear something a little less tight and revealing because she is not the same figure she was when the Honey video came out. No comment on Whinehouse, as I don't know enough about her. I don't think there's anything wrong with Britney's outfit in the first picture. That's something I can picture Heather Locklear wearing or my 24 year old niece. She has a short skirt or shorts, and is showing an inch of skin. Britney looks like she has good hygiene too.

well, Mariah actually knew something was wrong and got helped. Britney is playing with fire and seeing how dangerous she can live and see how much she can risk death and live. A lot of people believe Brit will attempt suicide this year, and it's not funny, but the rate she's going, if she doesn't do a turnaround fast, she will be in the hospital comatose, or even worse, dead.

I loved finally being able to see her live on her last tour, but some of the outfits made me cringe. When you go to a Mariah show, you are going for the voice. Now, a Britney show on the other hand, you certainly aren't going for the singing. A person would be going to see Britney for the entertainment, and someone like that would resort to wearing "slutty" clothes. Mariah could even pull off wearing something sexy, while still having an element of class, but for the most part, she doesn't.

I never said the way she dresses is a trainwreck. But, in 2001, Mariah was a trainwreck BECAUSE of the state she was in, with the infamous breaking dishes incident, and the TRL strip-tease. My two cents on the way Mariah needs to dress (it was just like Britney on the VMA's, she really wasn't fat, she just wasn't thin enough to be wearing what she wore, and it made her look bigger than she really was) was on SBTB calling her a whore for the way she dresses. I never said she's a trainwreck or a whore because she tries her damndest to fit into size 0, I just said that she would definately look a lot better if she dressed a little more appropriately to her size, which is maybe 4 or 5. The way she dresses right now makes her look a lot bigger than she really is.

I do wonder if a lot of the way she still dresses today is a Pavlov's dog response about the way Tommy originally marketed her in the early 90's. When she first came out, he marketed her as a "white Whitney" (yes, I know she's biracial, but a lot of the media didn't know her heritage until she'd been around for awhile and started talking more about herself) and put all the emphasis on her big voice, while she was generally dressed head to toe instead. From what I've heard, Tommy was a very mentally abusive person to Mariah, not necessarily an Ike Turner type, but that it was a very bad marriage and experience for her. So once she broke free of his reign, she went wild and more than overcompensated by the way Tommy used to make her dress by being much more sexy in her getup.

Oh well, I do guess it's still better than Janet, over 40 and still taking photoshoots where she's braless and covering her breasts as if it's still 1993.

Notice as soon as they both became rich and famous, they abandoned that image for good once their respective tours were over. Britney has been famous for ten years now with more money than God, so it seems odd that out of nowhere she'd dress like that when she can afford to buy anything she wishes.

I don't think anyone here has called Mariah fat. Just that she shouldn't try to fit into size 0 clothes. Size 0 is anorexic runway model... Mariah (thankfully) is not that, but yet she tries to wear the same size clothes than a Victoria's Secret runway model would wear. Mariah does not need to lose weight, but people do agree she should upgrade her choice of clothing, because what looked good on her in 97 doesn't look as good today.

Well, that can be said abt a lot of famous people, particularly women. I get what you are saying though. It is time to hang up the "ho" look and move on. ;) She doesn't need to tell the world with her fashions that she has it going on. She has the voice and the talent. I am no fan of hers, but I will say she has made her place in history.

I was thinking the same thing you did John regarding her confining marriage to Tommy. He was controlling and did tell her how to represent herself to the public. I guess he was hoping to make her another Celine Dion or someone of that caliber. She did start out with her ballads and pop songs but she obviously had a different path musically that she'd rather do. I just lost my love for her when she made that change. She went all hip-hop and rap and seemed to be a different person. I don't know, I just feel she turned her back on the pop fans and gyrated closer to the "black" artists hoping to cash in on some fast money and faster selling records. It seems you can make any record by using a sample and have an instant hit without any real taste or style to the song. Just popping them singles out faster than beer at a football game.

Mariah Carey looks incredible. She's in her 30s, has a body that looks like God personally chiseled, I say go for it! She likes tight clothes, big deal. Most hot celebrities, projecting a sexy image, do it. Anyone remember the actresses of past decades? Mae West, Sophia Loren, Ava Gardner, Lana Turner, Gina Lollobrigida, Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, Jayne Mansfield, Raquel Welch, the list is endless.

They poured themselves into their clothes. Looked like they were painted on, busting out everywhere. These sex kittens had it, and they flaunted it. Nobody called them Hos or whatever. It's been done since the beginning of time. It's nothing new. Sex sells.

If you're referring to the outfit that kicked off this thread, there's nothing trashy about it. It's in style, and probably cost a fortune. It shows about an inch of skin. She's young, so she dresses young. My niece dresses like that for parties, and she's 25. If she's going somewhere where an outfit like that wouldn't be appropriate, she wears a more conservative style.

I see plenty of pictures of Britney dressing very nice. She kicks around in jeans/shorts and tee shirts a lot. In concert, like most performers, (Madonna, Mariah, etc), she wears racy costumes. I don't think she's doing a thing wrong.
