one season wonders, spin-offs that didn't last, etc.? I check out websites that seem to mention programming that did well in the ratings or were well-known. I want to see a list of all the tv sitcoms, dramas and other types of shows that have been forgotten.

sorry if it was confusing, YES A SITE THAT LISTS every show ever aired on television (dramas, sitcoms) preferably from the 60's to now. I am more interested in seeing a list of shows that are not well-known, didn't do well in the ratings, one season wonders, etc.

Yea it lists every single regular series that 's aired in primetime since 1946. I've been getting every edition of that book since 1979. The newest edition just came out a few months ago too.

Well, it isn't all of a sudden, my boyfriend says he remembers watching shows in the 70's but he said they were canceled right away or they had only one season, and when he tries to tell me abt the show, I haven't a clue what show that is. So I figured, if I could see a list of all the shows that aired for a short time, I could go through that list with him or go on the internet and research by the show title and find out what the show was abt. Also, it would be interesting to just research these forgotten shows. Remember like that show VIVA VALDEZ and the TK Carter Show? I had forgotten abt those two shows until he reminded me of it.

You are correct. The ninth edition came out on October 17th, 2007. However, not even The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows, 1946-Present lists every single TV program that has ever aired. It does not include made-for-TV movies, unsold pilots, or Saturday-morning programming (I believe). Total Television includes Saturday-morning programming, but it has not been updated since 1996 and is generally less comprehensive than The Complete Directory. There are additional works dedicated to unsold pilots, variety specials, children's programming, animated fare, made-for-TV movies and just about anything and everything you can think of. However, many of them are quite expensive and also out-of-print.

I would say The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows, 1946-Present has the vast majority of one-season wonders. The only shows I have not found in it are from the late 1940s/early 1950s, and that is understandable for these early programs.

Ok, good to know. I am hoping to see those rare shows, hard to find shows, one season wonders, etc. As long as I have titles of those shows, that is good enough for me. It doesn't have to be from the 40's or 50's. Mainly looking for shows from 60's to the present day.

It has cast lists from every show and their broadcast history plus a summary of each show. It has Just Your Luck. :D It doesn't have specials. They consider it a show if it ran for 2 straight weeks or was intended too. The only recent shows it doesn't have are from HBO and Showtime with the exception of Sex and the City, The Sopranos and Sixth Feet Under. That's because they don't reach 50% of the audience. That's the only thing I wish they'd change. They have prime-time fall schedules for every season going back to 1946-47 too.

See, that's what I mean, unless I can remember details of a show, I may totally forget abt it. I had forgotten abt Future Cop. NOw, if I looked up John Amos information, I will see it, but I don't want to search every actor or actress' bio just to find rare shows.

Viva Valdez, I remembered the title, so that was no problem. Just Our Luck, well, I had to research that, luckily my boyfriend remember the actor's name.

What made me HUNT for Future Cop was hearing that John Amos starred in a short-lived series the same season his character was killed off Good Times and I ended up finding it.

That Complete Directory was going to be my suggestion too, if you were looking for lists. I love that book...that newest one is my third edition. You can't beat the schedules in the back...if your boyfriend can even just tell you when he watched something you could find it with those schedules. And I love the lists of who won all the Emmys each year, the ratings info for each year, the top shows of all time and all that stuff in the back, and it's all in one place. I have Total Television too, but I don't use that one nearly as much. I'm not even sure where that one is.

I find that tv.com and imdb.com are good sources- one has to know what one is looking for on those sites- an actor or a name of a show- but I've typed in and found info on some extremely obscure shows on those sites including things like pbs series that aired in non-primetime periods in the 70s. Now to find shows that aired locally (like a kid's show that was on in Los Angeles in 1955) is another matter.

"Future Cop" was an interesting fusion of science fiction and the cop show genre. I can still remember Mr. Ernest Borgnine's bug-eyed reactions to things that the computerized robocop could do.

The reason "Future Cop" may not be listed or carried as a series at tv.com or in The Complete Directory... was that it was played off as an irregularly scheduled miniseries (multiple timeslots over a few months), in much the same manner as "The New Original Wonder Woman" was first introduced by ABC over the 1976-77 seasons. I remember it got inconclusive ratings that varied according to what its lead-in was. I seem to remember Mr. Fred Silverman calling this type of scheduling a "living schedule" with it being termed a "floating series" or some such nomenclature.

I would also guess that "Future Cop" was an inherited series commitment from before Mr. Silverman became President of ABC, and some of those "old ABC" projects received burnoffs typical of that era (i.e. the "Viva Valdez" scheduling as a summer series) or accelerated playoffs ("Rich Man, Poor Man").

Furthermore, around the same time, there was another look-alike show on ABC that paired a cop with an android called "Holmes and YoYo", and it did very poorly in the ratings, which I think may have caused a lack of faith in "Future Cop" as a series.
