View Full Version : Another reason not to believe tabloids
Janice Johnson 01-07-2008, 03:50 PM A tabloid ran a story on Marie Osmond saying she was fighting cancer or something like that. Then, here's the misguided shocker! The tabloid printed, "Marie Osmond is 48. Her brother Donny Osmond is 49!    The misguided thing is that M and D are TWINS!
Hollow 01-07-2008, 07:03 PM eh maybe it was printed on their birthday, during the minute or so between the times they were born :grr:
ilovethe80s 01-07-2008, 07:56 PM donny and marie aren't twins
Ireneparalegal 01-07-2008, 08:43 PM Donny & Marie are NOT twins.
Another reason not to believe threads on S.O.
*Happy Face* 01-07-2008, 09:53 PM Looks like someone needs to stay away long lines at the checkout counter!

  I was just thinking the same thing!!! Donny is Marie's OLDER brother - and not just by minutes.
At least it didn't say that Donny, Marie and Jimmy were conjoined triplets! ;)

Or that six of them were sextuplets. Hell, let's just be glad they didn't say Donny was Marie's parasitic twin.

This is just it - tabloids are what they are - tabloids - crap - goofy * messed up * made up * fun * hurtful * and just plain strange. If it sounds too stupid to be true, it probably is.
I'll never forget back in the late 80s standing in line at the checkout and looking at the cover of The Star. I actually fell to the floor laughing (and was by myself too!). Honest to God, they had a picture of a baby crawling towards the camera, and (tried) to superimpose as best they could (remember, this is long before Photoshop) the face of a white haired dog (kinda like a Jack Russell pup) on it with the blaring headline "Woman Gives Birth To Dog-Faced Boy!!!"

I think they used that headline several times. I remember it from the 70's! and it was THE GLOBE.
And to think they still have outrageous headlines such as JESUS LIVING IN KANSAS! or NEW NOSTRADAMUS PREDICTION SAYS THE WORLD WILL END IN 2010. Damn, Nostradamus' predictions of the world ending seem to change every ten years.

Bat Boy!!

YEP!! That's real close to the dog-faced boy one - and you might be right - it well could have been the 70s and in the GLOBE! I just remember that picture so well like it's been imblazened into my brain. I wouldn't be caught dead reading one after that but I have to admit, when people have had them, we've gone nuts going through it laughing like crazy.
Even if 25% of it were true, I wouldn't believe it just being in a tabloid.
Mikado 01-07-2008, 11:46 PM Youre all wrong, Tara is Marie Osmond's twin! :p (I wish I had Tara's pic at hand to prove it)
TripperFan 01-07-2008, 11:47 PM OMG
I just read the headline again, and realized that it wasn't good enough just to have the FBI catch the Bat Boy, but that he was stranded on a roof during a Mississippi flood. Absolutely hilarious. Got to admit, it would be a blast working at one of those tabloids in a brainstorming session for that week's cover story.

Janice Johnson 01-09-2008, 10:25 PM Well, I heard from multipole sources that Donny and Marie were twins. :snob: ;)

Was Wikipedia one of them? Sorry but as already stated, Your sources are incorrect.

They are not twins.
ilovethe80s 01-10-2008, 12:05 AM Donny was born in 1957 and Marie was born in 1959 why don't you go check IMDB
Zoneboy 01-10-2008, 12:25 AM Donny was born in 1957 and Marie was born in 1959 why don't you go check IMDB
Although they're correct in this case, IMDb isn't exactly the most reliable source either.

Dead or Alive is a pretty good source.
Yeah, I don't know who these "multiple" sources are or where they're getting their information from, but there are NO twins in the Osmond or Jackson families.
Ireneparalegal 01-10-2008, 05:31 PM With so much information on the internet, how can anyone not check it to find out if they are twins?
I grew up in the 70's, so I knew immediately they were not twins, but if there is something I am not sure of I check the internet and double check by looking at other sources.

Exactly. Frankly, it drives me crazy to get those million times forwarded "WARNINGS" or stories of missing kids, etc. sent to me. The first thing I do is to check Snopes.com and then usually embarrass the person ('course, they've already embarrassed themselves by forwarding junk) by replying to all to advise that it's just another hoax. Then I paste the info from snopes or the link.
It's like nobody's ever heard of Google!
