I saw a fantastic movie called, Waitress. Andy Griffith has a somewhat small, but very important role in it. If you're a fan of Andy Griffith, you'll love him in this movie.

Somehow this thread reminded me of his role in that two-parter fact based movie FATAL VISION. He played an attorney in that movie. He was hard-nosed and so opposite of his Andy character. I love how Andy has chosen roles that aren't typecast. He really can show his great acting skills whether it is drama or comedy.

The movie, Waitress, was written, directed and acted in by, Adrienne Shelley. She was murdered during the filming, but had completed her scenes. It happened in November of 2006. A crazy construction worker killed her, then hung her on her shower rod to make it look like a suicide.

She had complained about the construction noise in the apartment below. They had a fight. He said, "He was having a bad day". He was an illegal immigrant. She had a husband and a baby. Her baby has a scene in the movie. Such a sad story, and it's hard to watch her in the movie, knowing what fate awaits her. :(

Ohhh, ok. I remember reading abt the murder of this young actress and even though I wasn't familiar with her work, I was stunned at her murder. I didn't realize when I first read this thread that Ms. Shelley was the one behind the movie (as well as acting in it). What a loss, not only to the entertainment world, but to her family.

Did you know abt this actress' fate before or after you rented this movie Janice?

I knew. I wish I didn't actually. Her role in the movie is such a sweet and loveable woman. So talented. She actually wrote and directed it too. Don't miss this movie. It's wonderful.

I'm gonna have to rent that one for sure. I rarely rent movies. It's been a long time actually, but when I get a recommendation to see one, I usually do.

She was so damn beautiful, had a real unique look to her. Such a shame.

I loved Waitress, and it was heartbreaking watching it knowing what happened to Adrienne. She seemed like such a wonderful person going by what everyone had to say about her on the tribute section of the DVD.

Adrienne had a slight resemblance to actress Rosanna Arquette.

I was just reading the Wiki info on her life and death. I guess that bastard still hasn't gone to trial for her death.

I can't believe I didn't watch the tribute section. I'll have to order it from Netflix again, just for that.

OH Nuts!

Rats - I think this movie was on over the weekend, but when I clicked on it, it was already a half hour into it so didn't watch. I'll have to keep my eyes open for it now.

I didn't know that actress was murdered. My God - seems to have been a lot of actresses murdered young. Sometimes I wish they would air reruns of My Sister Sam, but I know I'd be constantly thinking about that creep that gunned down Rebecca Schaeffer. :(

I try and watch the Sundance channel or IFC late at night when I can't sleep, they really have some great movies on there and I am sure that WAITRESS must have shown on one of those channels. I am keeping my eye open for it now.

I actually went to one video store today and they didn't have it in stock. :(

Yeah, her story is so heartbreaking. It wouldn't surprise me if they made a movie about her life, one day.

NEW YORK (Feb. 14) - A construction worker who admitted strangling actress Adrienne Shelly while robbing her apartment and then hanging her body to make it look like a suicide pleaded guilty Thursday to manslaughter.

Getty ImagesDiego Pillco, 20, admitted he killed Adrienne Shelly, 40, in her Manhattan flat after going through her purse. He was promised a sentence on March 6 of 25 years in prison.

State Supreme Court Justice Carol Berkman said Pillco, who is from Ecuador, South America, and is in the United States illegally, is subject to immediate deportation upon release from prison.

Shelly, born Adrienne Levine, appeared in the 2005 movie "Factotum" with Matt Dillon. She made her directorial debut with "Sudden Manhattan" in 1996, and she wrote, directed and co-starred in "Waitress," which also featured Keri Russell.

With Shelly's mother, brothers, other relatives and friends present, Pillco explained to the court how he killed her on Nov. 1, 2006. His story differed considerably from the account he initially gave police.

The defendant first said he was renovating a third-floor apartment in Greenwich Village when Shelly came down and complained that he was making too much noise. Shelly used the apartment in that building as an office.

Pillco initially said she called him names, they fought and he killed her accidentally. He said he then hanged her with a bed sheet to make her death look like suicide.

On Thursday, Pillco admitted to the court that he was in fact robbing her when he killed her. He said he had eaten his lunch in the basement and was walking back up the stairs to resume working when he saw Shelly going up to her flat.

"When I saw her I decided to rob her," Pillco told the court.

He said he saw her fourth-floor apartment door was open so he stepped in and grabbed her purse.

"When I was trying to put back the purse, the lady came out of the room," Pillco said through a Spanish language interpreter. "I don't speak English, but the lady was signing that I give back her purse."

He said she went through the purse and saw something was missing and she was going to call the police.

"I took the phone from her," he said. "Out of desperation I covered her mouth. I was scared and didn't realize what was happening. I saw a sheet, and I decided to choke her."

The judge asked, "And you tied the sheet around her neck and strung her up?"

"Yes," Pillco replied, "and I made it look as if she had committed suicide."

Pillco was arrested in Brooklyn after witnesses told police they had seen him working near Shelley's apartment in the building.

"I just want to ask forgiveness from her family," the defendant said.

"I doubt if you'll get that, sir," the judge said.

Shelly's relatives didn't speak in court and declined to comment after the proceeding.

Shelly also appeared in "The Unbelievable Truth" in 1989 and "Trust" in 1990.
