My sisters are 15 and 13, so things are crazy at my house. Number 9 Dream 01-03-2008, 11:51 PM I used to live with my Dad and three brothers (my parents got separated in early 2006, but before that my Mom was living there too). Because I was constantly fighting with my Dad, I was forced to move out to save my sanity. I now live with my grandparents :) My grandma's friend Richie lives here as well (he rents a room). I have a room in the basement (very nice...feels like my own apartment) and things are a lot more quiet here. I like it so far. freshprinceofLA 01-04-2008, 12:01 AM Well being a junior in high school I live with my parents but come 2009 that will change! dawsongirl 01-04-2008, 12:02 AM My parents. I honestly don't mind it. I'm not exactly apartment material...I'm pretty sure I'd go nuts. Nighthawk76 01-04-2008, 12:39 AM My parents Janice 01-04-2008, 12:49 AM My husband, since 1983. I love it! catlover79 01-04-2008, 12:51 AM I live with my parents, my younger brother and three cats. Both my brother and I pay rent and pitch in wherever we can. It's a good situation - it works, but hopefully by the end of this year or beginning of next, I can find my own place. It's a good situation - it works, but hopefully by the end of this year or beginning of next, I can find my own place. It's the same situation with me. Except in my case it is me, my sister, our parents and two cats. I also would very much like to be out on my own by the end of this year. It's not that I don't love my family, because I do, I just think it is time for me to be out on my own. Same here...I just hope I get my RAISE soon!! That will go a long way. Nighthawk76 01-04-2008, 01:03 AM Same here...I just hope I get my RAISE soon!! That will go a long way. I haven't been with the college very long...only two months...so I have awhile to wait until I get a raise or promotion. Right now I'm only making $10 an hour, which isn't very good. dawsongirl 01-04-2008, 01:07 AM I haven't been with the college very long...only two months...so I have awhile to wait until I get a raise or promotion. If I had to pay like $600 in rent or something, I'd be strapped for utilities and food and gas to get to the damn job. Hollow 01-04-2008, 01:10 AM roommates, most of the time. If I had to pay like $600 in rent or something, I'd be strapped for utilities and food and gas to get to the damn job. Rent in Illinois is like $900 unless you want to live in the slums. If I were in an apartment right now I would have to probably go without food and utilities. dawsongirl 01-04-2008, 01:13 AM ugh! My boyfriend managed to get a nice apartment in an upscale suburb for $520. I was shocked. But I never saw any $900 ones unless they were like 3 bedroom luxury ones. catlover79 01-04-2008, 01:20 AM I haven't been with the college very long...only two months...so I have awhile to wait until I get a raise or promotion. I'm trying to see if I can find another single gal or two and split the cost of an apartment, utilities, groceries, etc. phoebe7165 01-04-2008, 01:23 AM Weird, but I was just thinking of starting a thread like this!!:D I talked my sister into getting a house together. We both had apartments and had it with loud neighbors. So I figured we could get a house for the same as we were paying for our apartments. We've been here a while and get along most of the time. I guess it helps that I'm out of town alot!! I let her have the master bedroom, too. So it's us, our 5 dogs & 3 cats. Nighthawk76 01-04-2008, 01:25 AM I know the feeling. I'm trying to see if I can find another single gal or two and split the cost of an apartment, utilities, groceries, etc. I'm not sure I could live with anyone else. I'm not always the easiest person to get along with. PZelda 01-04-2008, 01:28 AM ugh! Good 'ole Twin Cities suburbs. :) The place I live in is 450/month (so my share is 225) and that's pretty damn cheap for a 2bd/1br in town -- and it's actually a nice place. Others around here start at 550/month and higher. If you want a 1bd/1br here, it won't get much lower than 350/month. I live with a roomie, by the way. :) Sometimes I long for the days where I lived in Nowhere, USA. I was living with my mom in this gigantic 2bd/1br ~1200sq ft apartment that was about 400/month. That, of course, was a long time ago. But rent there would still be really cheap, I think. Great apartment, but I hated the town. Ireneparalegal 01-04-2008, 01:43 AM ugh! My boyfriend managed to get a nice apartment in an upscale suburb for $520. I was shocked. But I never saw any $900 ones unless they were like 3 bedroom luxury ones. That is cheap!!! Rent here for an apartment can be around $900 for a ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT. That is the cheapest you can find here, if you are lucky. Normally the rent can be higher than that. dawsongirl 01-04-2008, 01:59 AM I'm not sure I could live with anyone else. I'm not always the easiest person to get along with. I'm the same way! Guess I have to hand it to smaller Midwestern cities...they are cheaper to live in. dawsongirl 01-04-2008, 02:02 AM That is cheap!!! I don't suppose people make a whole lot more out there either. Max Whittaker 01-04-2008, 02:47 AM I make 10 and 11, and it doesn't amount to much. Having a place of my own is invaluable. But it's come at a heavy, heavy price. I love the independence. I hate the money concerns. LuLu Rogers 01-04-2008, 02:57 AM I'd give my back teeth to have a place of my own! I HATE living at home. treky 01-04-2008, 04:10 AM I live with my brother. We both have H.S.P. (a rare disability that causes gradule muscle deteriration-it's not as bad as it sounds though; exercise slows down the progresion) and unfortunetaly; I have a worse case than him. He just has to use a cane sometimes, but I use a walker and a motorized scooter and have trouble with my speech. (H.S.P. just started to be recognized about 10 years ago-some doctors still don't know about it) TripperFan 01-04-2008, 08:55 AM ugh! If you want anything without cockroaches or nightly domestic violence, you're looking at $1200 at least for an apt. and it can go right up to $5000 from there. I'm having to look for something myself and it's crazy. I don't know how a single woman can live easily anymore. Max Whittaker 01-04-2008, 09:05 AM $900 is a dump in Toronto. It's perfect for me, but I know others pay much more. Up to $730, equal to the two bedroom I had before. It's crazy. I'm lucky I have a discount. But even now, I'm barely making it. Who can afford $5000 for something they don't own??? TripperFan 01-04-2008, 09:45 AM That's insane! I'm paying $630 for a decent one-bedroom apt. It's perfect for me, but I know others pay much more. If you want to rent an small to average size home, you're looking at about $2700 in RENT a month, PLUS utilities. You might as well buy your own with nothing down for that kind of coin. I'm currently splitting from my husband and will have to take all the pets with me. That means a small house at the least. I can't afford that on my own. I don't want to "take him to the cleaners" on the settlement, but he's the one who's initiated this and will have to pay me. I hope he realizes what he's in for here! I've worked too hard over the years to go back to a dump of an apt. TripperFan 01-04-2008, 11:20 PM Are you going to fight for the house, or just money for a decent apt? Unfortunately I have no right to the home (we've been common-law for 12 years, however, it's in his name). Under common-law (here anyway) I only have a right to half of the gains from the time we moved in to current market value. I'll have to fight for more, but can easily prove my case. (sorry - just don't want to go into soap opera detail here) but it drags it out. I'm currently having to live here and its torture. Not that we're fighting, just incredibly stressful no matter how you slice it. If I knew he could be responsible and can keep proper care of the dogs, I'd just walk away for an apt. with the cats, but I know he can't. You know how I am with my animals, and they both now have very specific medical conditions and needs that he won't keep up on properly (not that he doesn't love them, just between what he's going through and his job it isn't possible). I know some people think I'm crazy, but somebody's got to look out for all of us. It's been a family unit for 12 years now and it's not easy to just dump them (especially when they're a lot of comfort to you when you're going thru this crapola).
