Yeah Donna Douglas was born in 1933, so was about 29 when the show debuted in 1962. At the end of the run in 1971, she was in her late 30s.
Interestingly Max Baer, Jr. (Jethro) was younger, born in 1937.

She was supposed to be 12 or 13 at the time of the pilot, if I recall correctly. A "spinster" indeed.

I seen most of the marathon and there is quite a bit of difference from the B&W episodes to the color. Toward the end of the series it looked like she was starting to show her age.

At the height of the show's popularity, in the early sixties, an original cast LP
record album was released. Here's a snippet of dialogue from that recording:

MILBURN DRYSDALE: Elly May is such a beautiful girl. I wonder why she isn't
married.
GRANNY: She's eighteen -- she's too old!

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall that it was a running gag that Elly May was older than 12 or 13, but Granny insisted that was her age so as not to scare off potential suitors.

I remember that "Beverly Hillbillies" LP record album, I received one as a birthday gift back in the late 60's.

There were a lot of fun bits on that album. I wish I still had it along with some other old LPs that all got lost decades ago.

I just did a google search on the Beverly Hillbillies LP and found several good links, it might still be available from various sources, even an Amazon CD version of it. At that link you can even play short clips from the various LP tracks, it brings back old memories! :)
