Jo on The Facts Of Life (well, most people tend to forget the first season anyways)
Spike on Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Elaine on Seinfeld (well, technically... she was not in the first episode and the pilot was lacking without her)
Butters on South Park (ok, it's animated, but nonetheless, adding Butters to the roster of characters definately made the show better since he's the funniest character besides Cartman)

i love butters! he's soo cool! :) he and eric cartman are my two favourite characters on that show. i don't understand the hype with kenny though- he does nothing and says nothing most of the time, he's as interesting as watching paint dry. the only thing that is good is he gets killed every episode

Howard Keel - Clayton Farlow on DALLAS

That man eased right into a spot that was left vacant by Jim Davis' death. That was some enormous shoes to fill and Howard did it with style, charm and pizzazz.

I can't believe I forgot the McPhees from "Dawson's Creek." Jack and Andie fit perfectly into the show's style, and by the end of the series, it feels like they were both there from the beginning. The same cannot and could never be said about Audrey, who was played by a wonderful actress, but still sucked.

^ I've always been a fan of Meredith Monroe, especially as Laura Ingalls Wilder in the CBS Beyond the Prairie movies. I even have an autographed picture of her! :D

I stopped watching when Andie left.

Her character on Criminal Minds is a real bitch though.

I liked Kerr Smith's character on CSI:NY...even though he turned out to be deranged. lol

my updated top 10 additions
1. Seven of Nine- Star Trek: Voyager. The show was vastly improved with her instead of Kes.
2. Arnold Ziffel- Green Acres. I did not know he was added in the 2nd season.
3. Nicole Chapman- Fame. my favorite character from later seasons after Julie left
4. Lennie Briscoe- Law and Order. His 2 predecessors were really dull.
5. Colonel Potter- M*A*S*H
6. Clayton Endicott- Benson
7. Baez and Jenko- Blue Bloods. Danny and Jamie's current partners who started in season 4
8. Georgie Fleming-Morris- Heartland
9. Jack McCoy- Law and Order
10. Kevin Kinkirk- 7th Heaven

True, but he did not show up until the fifth episode, whereas most regulars were established well before that.

2. Arnold Ziffel- Green Acres. I did not know he was added in the 2nd season.
Arnold actually appeared in season 1 and debuted in the first episode. You may be thinking of season 2 of Petticoat Junction where Arnold made a cameo appearance the year before GA started.
