Nope,I for one, never click on those type of ads or anything else. You
never know when it could be a scam,or even a hoax in order to
trick you into clicking it and when you do. Your computer becomes
infected with either viruses, spyware or adware.

But those ads don't have anything to do with SO,They just pop up
every now and then and of course if you click on one of them. You
will leave this website,You won't stay in the same place.

it isn't this site that gives those offers, they're automated links to other sites that try to trick you into buying stuff from them.

Internet ads shouldn't talk.
especially when you've got headphones on or sleeping roommates with you.

There is a way to keep that from occurring isn't there? I thought I seen an option on my internet options to block the sounds from websites or pop-ups, something like that.

I always have my pop-up blocker on, but some still get thru - especially on this site it seems. Hell, I guess I should click on them - just in the past 2 days it said I had won (no joke!) because I was the 10,000th visitor (I would think there's been a LOT more than that on here) and then I won again the next day because I was the 999,999,999th visitor!!! Woohoo - boy, there sure were a lot of people on in a 24 hr period!!!

Ok, that is not what I am referrring to. I have that pop-up blocker as well, but this is on my computers "internet options"...there was something there that gave me the option of blocking the actual sounds of pop-ups, ads, etc. NOT blocking the actual pop-ups, ads, themselves.

same. especially when im reading the boards at like 1 or 2 in the morning and they come up SUPER LOUD. they're even more annoying with headphones.

can we PLEASE remove this ad :(

oh and pop up blockets dont block the banners at the top - you have to have Adblock or something similar to get rid of them.

its this super annoying smiley ad at the top of the page that comes up randomly and screams HELLO! at you. it always scares me cause i never know when its coming :( i can deal with the silent banner ads but i hate ones that talk.

honestly though, this site is one of the better ones ive come across on the ad front. the ads are usually silent (save that smiley one) and harmless. on Idolforums, the banners at the top are filled with spyware and viruses and do a LOT of harm to your computers. sometimes there's also porn ads at the top of the page.

Oh sh*t!!!!! Sounds like something that would be very annoying and startling. I never have the sound on anyways when I am on Sitcoms Online.

ooooh I see. :)

Yeah, if these contained any spyware I'd never be on this site. I run Ad-Aware frequently, but it's still annoying and can slow you right down immediately. I just ignore whatever's flashing. Good thing I'm not epileptic!!

I've always thought of it as spam so I never bothered with it. If someone ever wins and says it, I might change my mind and give it a go

Firefox must be unlucky because before I used it I was the lucky 1,000,000th visitor on just about every website. Now I don't get the popups. How sad. ;)

Don't click them!

Ireneparalegal

I don't understand, are you all listening to music while posting on S.O.? That would be the only reason I can think of for you to have your speakers on to begin with. I don't listen to music while on the board, so there is no reason to have the speakers on.

It's that ad with the smileys. The computer speakers are off at home, but when I log onto my computer at work, I hear it.
