Okay, one last item from my design collection. This is a wall sconce I finished last month. It is currently hanging up at Conker Hill on 10th avenue. I finally remembered to bring my camera over there to take a picture.
This is a big one almost three feet high. Took lots of grinding and buffing to make it nice and smooth. I hope to do a few more versions of this in 2008.

Really sharp! What's it made out of Tom - wood? Is it all one piece?

It's made from steel, 1/8th inch I think, maybe a little thicker. I wanted to try to make it all one piece but I decided to just cut out some circles and weld them on to the branches to hold the candles.
The next version I do will be one piece.

O.k. - I thought it was steel - what's the finish - looks almost like a sort of bronzing (but then at the tips looks a little more like pewter). Is it just the colouring in the photo? Quite the craftsman there!

The steel I use for most of my projects is very rusted and pitted; stuff that's been sitting out in our yard for a while. Even with some grinding the steel maintains a brownish color. The tips of the branches appear more silver because I ground them a lot to make them rounded like a tree branch.
I use a clear spray on enamel which also darkens the metal a bit when it dries.
Thanks for the compliments everyone!

REALLY nice work Tom. You could definitely make a living at it if you ever tire of your day job!
