View Full Version : Solomon's Weekly Rant (12/29/07) Discussion: Drew Carey, Celeb Apprentice, B. JulieSomoski 12-29-2007, 03:40 PM Solomon, definitely agree about the Celebrity Apprentice thing. NBC is destroying a once-great show by adding a celebrity spin to it. I stoped watching the show once they moved out of New York City, which is bad enough, but now they're taking it to a whole new horrible by adding celebrities. On the other hand, I really disagree with you about the Drew Carey New Year's Eve marathon. ION has done stunts like this before when adding new shows to their lineup. For example, when WTB? came in July, they aired a week of baseball-themed episodes from the show. That is just like the Drew Carey marathon, with music-themed episodes. Also, I don't understand why you seem to hate everything about Drew Carey. He's a great, funny man, and I couldn't be happier to see his show join the lineup. It's been one of my favorites for years, and it's the only show I actually watched every single episode of all 9 seasons it was on the air. If you just gave it a chance. No I wasn't trashing the show, i was just wondering why other shows didn't get a marathon. I didn' know WTB had a marathon but I now alice never had one. Yeah what attracted me to the Apprentice was the fact that it was in Manhattan and that young professionals were competing for a job with trump. That crap their aired last season when the show moved to LA was the beginning of the end-lol JulieSomoski 12-29-2007, 06:15 PM No I wasn't trashing the show, i was just wondering why other shows didn't get a marathon. Yeah what attracted me to the Apprentice was the fact that it was in Manhattan and that young professionals were competing for a job with trump. That crap their aired last season when the show moved to LA was the beginning of the end-lol And to think the Apprentice was once a hugely popular and successful show. I think it would be lucky to get 5 million viewers this season-LOL. Do you know what some of the celebrities will be? Have you ever seen Drew Carey Show before? I think you'd like it . . . it's a good but underestimated show. It was never a top 10 show, but it's a great show. I know WTB had a launch marathon. I know Amen or Alice never did when they first came on. Not sure about the others. TVFactFan 12-29-2007, 06:21 PM And to think the Apprentice was once a hugely popular and successful show. The Celebrities on the Apprentice will be Country Singer Trace Adkins Stephen Baldwin Marilu Henner Boxing Champ Lennox Lews KISS Gene Simmons Omarosa JulieSomoski 12-29-2007, 06:24 PM I seen a littl of Drew Carey but not a lot. The Celebrities on the Apprentice will be Country Singer Trace Adkins Stephen Baldwin Marilu Henner Boxing Champ Lennox Lews KISS Gene Simmons Omarosa Oh, they seem to be huge stars there. Wait a minute, Omarosa? Are you kidding me? Why in the world would the producers bring her back to the show after what she did the first time she was on? God, I always laugh when I remember tht ime she was telling Trump in the boardroom "Mr. Trump, I'm not crazy, I'm not crazy"-LOL, she didn't even know it herself at the time  TVFactFan 12-29-2007, 06:31 PM Oh, they seem to be huge stars there. TVFactFan 12-29-2007, 06:38 PM Or in other words, he thought she'd bring in higher ratings. That what it sounds like HuntingtonM15 12-29-2007, 06:54 PM Wait a minute, Omarosa? Are you kidding me? Why in the world would the producers bring her back to the show after what she did the first time she was on? And how is she a "celebrity?" I can see bringing her back if they ever did an All-Stars type edition, but not this. I'm definitely willing to try this season, and I don't plan on putting it down until I see it. snl 70s show fan 12-29-2007, 07:00 PM the only thing that might make celebrity apperntice interesting was that ive read that gene simmions at one time had a dislike for southern people stemming from the way he was treated in the south during his kiss days so if he still has issues with southern people it will be interesting to see how he gets along with trace adkins TVFactFan 12-29-2007, 07:00 PM And how is she a "celebrity?" Well I will wait on your review because I have no desire to turn to this disaster on thursday nights wkomorow 12-29-2007, 07:05 PM Drew Carey is a hot commodity right now. Combine that will the popularity of marathons on New Years Eve, you could be looking at good ratings. I can not think of any one else on Ion with Carey's current popular appeal. HuntingtonM15 12-29-2007, 07:14 PM Well I will wait on your review because I have no desire to turn to this disaster on thursday nights It very well could be a disaster, but I shall see. snl 70s show fan 12-29-2007, 07:17 PM Well I will wait on your review because I have no desire to turn to this disaster on thursday nightsme ether its the nba or dvd;s for me on thursdays for awhile icecream 12-29-2007, 09:32 PM The Drew Carey Show sucks. I'd much rather see a Wonder Years or Growing Pains marathon. Of course I'll be at my parents' house which doesn't have cable, so it doesn't matter. friendsfan77 12-29-2007, 11:47 PM Also, I don't understand why you seem to hate everything about Drew Carey. Glad to see I'm not the only one looking forward to seeing Drew on Ion. I'm glad I can finally revisit the series again after a long while. I've always loved this show; and can even remember watching episodes when they originally aired on ABC. From a business standpoint, ION's moves are quite logical: The Drew Carey Show is a comtemporary property; Alice and Who's the Boss, as far as the television programming business is concerned, are old. Combine a contemporary property with a star who's currently riding high on television (The Price is Right; The Power of 10), and a marathon is a no-brainer. The Apprentice was already dead. In fact, it had already been cancelled by NBC. However, the new head on NBC entertainment saw an opportunity to squeeze a little more cash out of the tired franchise, and decided to take a chance on the high concept of an all-star edition. Being that the show was already declared dead once, going all-star could hardly do much more harm. As for Bryant Gumbel... before his days in morning television, Bryant had a long career in sports broadcasting. Mr. Television 12-30-2007, 03:55 PM Gumbel was a studio host ot play by play announcer. He should stay in the studio. I agree. He's awful. How many times is he going to call the Cowboys, The Packers. JulieSomoski 12-30-2007, 05:32 PM Glad to see I'm not the only one looking forward to seeing Drew on Ion. There's no better way to ring in the new year than with a marathon of The Drew Carey Show. And it's good to see only 1 episode is from season 1, because I've watched all the seasons 1 episodes on DVD over and over. |
