Sean Penn (whose Into the Wild is garnering much awards-season buzz) and Robin "Kelly Capwell" Wright "Buttercup" Penn are divorcing after 11 years of marriage, a spokesperson for the actors tells People. The couple have two children together, Hopper Jack, 14, and Dylan Frances, 16.

Really sad to hear - I know exactly what they're going through and it's not easy. I would imagine Sean wouldn't be the easiest guy to live with, so I suppose they had a good run considering it was a Hollywood pairing.

That's too bad. I'm a big fan of them both.

I know this is going to sound mean, but I'm really surprised they stayed together as long as they did. Shame they couldn't work things out. :(

I am surprised they lasted this long also. I have no idea what happened with his marriage with Robin, but I have read in a few unauthorized biographies that he was Ike to Madonna during their time together. That he would torture her and the sort. Neither Madonna nor Sean have ever talked about it publically, but a general incident that frequents "Madonna Revealed" type of books is that Madonna officially split from Sean after he had her tied up and started beating the hell out of her one day. She has never publically spoken about it, but a lot of people believe that is what "Til Death Do Us Part" on the Like A Prayer album is singing about (it's about a woman whose husband comes home drunk and terrorizes her and she walks out).

This one surprises me. I thought they were solid. Penn seems like an angry guy anyway. He's always has a nasty look on his face. He sure is talented though.

Janice, when you said you thought they were a solid couple, I immediately thought of the song "Solid" by Ashford & Simpson. It'll be in my head for the rest of the day - thanks!!

I think Sean has mellowed considerably since the 80's when he was married to Madonna and spent time in jail for punching out a paparazzi (and to think that was 1986, what Sean and Madonna went through was nothing compared to what Britney is going through now). Of course, mellowing and becoming a father and becoming more interested in politics and nature still doesn't get rid of anger management. If you have a temper, it's always gonna be there.

I guess we really don't know what goes on behind closed doors.

Very true, and it takes two to make or break a marriage.
