I really love this movie, especially the ending...

I did notice ABC FAMILY took off some scenes/comments on the show..

Like the one where Mickey calls Kevin a slug, Another scene they took out where Mickey and Kevin went to find a bathroom but go in Mike's den and I thought there was another scene they took out but not sure...

What do you guys think of this movie? I guess Ted Roberts called Carol to tell her that Mike was trapped.. Not sure the whole family needed to be there though.

I loved all the movies and specials that came after the show and ironically more than the orig. show itself. I esp. liked the drama-comedy they tried to do with the Bradys. It may have been short-lived but I still liked it very much.

I remember watching Very Brady Christmas when it debuted in 1988 - I was 9 and loved it!! (I was already familiar with the Brady Bunch reruns.) I've never seen the Bradys or the Brady Brides, but I'd like to one of these days.

I certainly hope that doesn't mean what I'm currently interpreting it does. IOW, I hope they went into Mike's den and saved the bathroom for later in a separate trip.

I saw it when I was a kid too! I remember being really excited about (I tore the ad out of the TV Guide) even though I hadn't seen too many episodes of The Brady Bunch. I still like it, but it seems a lot cheesier now than it did back then. But, what doesn't seem that way?

It's a shame it was never another Brady Series that had all the cast in tact after the original show ended. The brady variety hour in 77 without the father, the brady brides in 81 with just the girls and the 88 christmas movie without the real cindy. What about the 1990 series? Was anyone missing?

Well.... Peter and Bobby were worken up when the boys came in the living room then Peter told them to go up the stairs, forgot what way, but then when they boys turned on the light in the den, the girls told them out and told them where the bathroom was....

Peter had him go in the den on purpose...

I may have mentioned it before, but I think it's funny that in the scene when Alice, Carol, and Mike reminisce about the family being together, they are dressed in regular clothes when the camping flashback begins. Then after the flashback, they are in PJs and robes.

Maybe it was close to bed time and they decided to put their pj's on while the flashback was going on...

In the movie.. I didn't think Cindy was being asked to come home though... It was interesting how the kids started telling the parents about each other's trip... thought it was supposed to be a suprise....

They really chopped up some parts of the movie. There are the scenes I noticed is still not there when it aired last year but it seems there was one or two they cut out. I'm still watching it though.

EDIT: Where is that Pac-Man guy when you need him.

No, not the football player either.

Saw this movie again...

It's still good.. :)

I noticed something else too now... Seems daylight is very slow to get to night time.

I really think they could have had a better ending to this movie though but then it's be more than 2 hours...

I know it's just a plot but why the hell would they have Mike's family at the accident site, is beyond me..

All 9 original castmembers were reunited one time since the series, that was for The Brady Girls Get Married, the pilot for The Brady Brides.

I still have the original network airing somewhere on video tape. Along with the Bradys series. I liked The Bradys.

In a Very Brady Christmas, this one thing bugged me. I know Ted Roberts was in a pinch with his building collapsing as it did, and Mike told him what specifications should have been done, but Mike was an architect, why didn't they call a Constructional Engineer ?

Then Mike tells Ted to dig a trench to release the stress, Ted jumps into the machine, Mike goes in the building, Ted doesn't get to sit down in the seat let alone start and even move that machine to dig anything when the building callapses, the two security guards come out and Ted is hailing Mike as brilliant for the digging the trench to relief the stress worked. The trnech hadn't even been dug yet! lol

The other thing that always bugs me is Cindy. Her whining about not being asked but being told to come home. Mike asked her. He said 'We'd like you to come home for Christmas.' Which is the same thing Carol said to Marcia. Mike didn't tell her cancel your ski plans and come home. He didn't make it sound like he was assuiming she was coming home either. And Cindy for all her complaining, never even told her parents that she had other plans. Are they suppose to read her mind. Even so, wouldn't you expect if it's like a week before Christmas and your college daughter hasn't told you she was going anywhere for Chirstmas, you'd assume she'd be coming home.

I also added up the years when I watched the episode the other day. In the Brady Girls get married, it started with Mike and Carol having just dropped Cindy off at college. That was 1981. A Very Brady Christmas was 1988. Cindys been in college for 7 years! The next year in The Bradys after all those years of college she's just working as a dj at a local radio station. lol

But I love the Bradys and all their reincarnations! A Very Brady Christmas is a must every holiday season !

It seemed like the hours were very long as to from dinner till the Brady's went to the accident site.

The part about Cindy, maybe it depends on if you are the youngest or not but I think they were trying to show that being the youngest you are expected to do things... To me, it sounded like Mike was telling her he wants her to come home. But I'm the baby of the family so I feel like I'm treated as the baby and not an adult. But yeah, they didn't know she was having a big ski weekend.

I love that movie and I will watch it again today and the rest of the week.. LOL

I try and catch this movie every holiday season. I personally like the scene when the whole family shows up at the construction site and starts singing---it's quite powerful.

I don't know if I've ever caught the opening credits before this year though. I wonder why Florence Henderson is billed before Robert Reed (unlike in The Brady Bunch)? Carol and Mike are pretty equally featured in the film. Is it because Sherwood and company were still holding grudges against him from the series?

I don't know. Flo and Bob were billed side by side on The Bradys (and here are the clips to prove it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUHozB7XKJc and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73BrsCvbLjM&feature=PlayList&p=EAF153329ABE4593&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=22). She was, however, on the left, so her name would appear first. So, who knows?

tvparadise

In that, I think it's a matter of putting all the girls 1st (as in the Brady Bunch theme song). In some ways with The Brady Bunch theme, Florence/Robert are equally billed as Florence Henderson's character appears 1st on screen (and later in the upper box). It's kind of like in Cheers, where Ted Danson's name is on the left, but at the bottom of the screen (with Shelley Long on the top right).

I'm not necessarily saying who should be top billed, but it's just weird when you watch the original series and are used to seeing "Starring Robert Reed" and with the Very Brady Christmas you see... "Starring Florence Henderson".

The extras on the complete series "shag rug" set include: A Very Brady Christmas, The Brady 500 (which is actually the first 2 episodes of The Bradys edited into a movie), and 2 episodes from The Brady Kids animated series.

Having the first two Bradys episodes edited into a movie is very apropos, because that was the original plan. Originally, The Bradys was going to be a series of TV movies that would air two or three times during the season.

But the network wanted to capitalize on the success of the Brady Christmas movie and saw dollar signs.

Unfortunately, a bad time slot killed the show and I think if they'd stuck to the original plan, the movies would have seemed like special events and probably done much better in the ratings.

Sometimes, less is more.

This is what killed the original V mini series. It was supposed to be a number of tv movies but when they made it weekly they ended up with a very weak run of the mill show. The tv movies seemed more special and they were too.

The Bradys wasn't brilliant but it would have worked better in a movie format as that would have suited the self contained nature of the stories.

I found this Christmas special to be more pleasing and satisfying overall than Schwartz' Gilligan's Island reunions (although it's worth watching anything Dawn Wells worked on).

The cover artwork shown in this thread is pretty pleasing and well thought-out, I think -- but that moustache Barry is sporting!
