(Dec. 15) - Ashley Tisdale took the stage Friday for the first time since undergoing surgery on her deviated septum.

Tisdale, of 'High School Musical' fame, sang at the Z100 Jingle Ball concert to benefit Autism Speaks at Madison Square Garden, even though she was still experiencing some pain from swelling.

"I've known for years that I've had a deviated septum," Tisdale told PEOPLE.

It was only after touring with High School Musical last spring that the 22-year-old realized how bad it was. Tisdale ran off stage in a panic following one of her solos.

"I was so out of breath, I started hyperventilating," Tisdale says. "They were thinking it was a heart attack. The [tour] doctor got me an oxygen tank and I sat outside the stage and breathed in oxygen until I could catch my breath."

While she's grateful for the relief the operation has brought her, Tisdale has sworn off any further plastic surgery.

"I don't believe in plastic surgery. I really think natural is more beautiful. This was not about changing me. I am comfortable with myself," she says.

I like the new nose...god willing i hope she doesn't turn into someone else who has the near-same first name as hers (wink, wink)...
