View Full Version : This is What I Love About Living in the Mountains!
Jo_Luvs_Ketchup 12-14-2007, 10:24 PM Okay, about five minutes ago, I went to go take my dog Bailey outside. I went down the porch steps with her and heard footsteps. It honestly sounded like someone was standing there, heard me and ran away. Of course I got freaked but my dog's bladder was about to explode so I had to wait till she went pee to go check it out. So she went and I took her back into the house. I came back outside and there was footprints in my backyard where I heard the noise. Not people's footprints though. It looked like an animals. It was weird because we do have a lot of stray cats, but none that would make that much noise. So I tried to see as best I could with it being so dark and snowy. So, as I'm looking, what is staring at me in the face? A DEER! Oh my god she was so pretty. It was a beautiful baby doe. She was playing in my backyard. I love living in the mountains! I never saw anything like that when I lived in the city. Absolutely beautiful!!!!!!
Mr. Television 12-14-2007, 10:31 PM All I ever see in my backyard are racoons and squirrels.
Ireneparalegal 12-14-2007, 10:32 PM I've got hummingbirds and occasional lizards.

Hummingbirds are nice but I don't like lizards.

Lizards seem harmless, but I squeal like a pig when I don't see one and I almost step on one. I have no idea where in the world they came from. I seen one and the next thing I knew I seen very small ones (babies). I wonder if someone let it loose somewhere.
Mikado 12-14-2007, 10:51 PM I once came face to face with a buck (male adult) deer, we werent 3 feet apart (He was as surprised to see me as I was him), i could litterally have touched him by taking one step, we looked each other in the eyes about a good 30 seconds, and, after he was sure i wasnt a threat*, he turned and bounded back into the snowy forest. (It was late at night, when i was working a security job) *Fortunately, it wasnt rutting season, or i might have been in trouble
Ireneparalegal 12-14-2007, 11:25 PM Kelly, you are blessed to have such a creature roaming in your backyard.

I hope so. That would be great if she comes back and you can take a pic. I love nature pictures, especially of animals.
Fleet 12-15-2007, 03:41 AM I was visiting a Cadillac friend a few years ago in Glendale, on the east side of the Verdugo mountains.
Just after parking, I saw a deer actually walking down the street; on the sidewalk. It would stop and nibble some plants.
I did have my camera with me and took a photo. :)
*ClassicPinUp* 12-15-2007, 07:38 AM Aww, that is so cute! You're so lucky I've always wanted to live in the mountains.. maybe one day :D
Chelsea 12-15-2007, 07:47 AM ....About six months ago, I was heading out to get some breakfast. It was about 6:30 AM that Sunday morning. It's pretty much just me out on the roads.
So, anyway, I get most of the way to the place i'm going, but - in *town* - I see no FEWER than FIVE deer just kind of strolling along minding their own business in the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.
I slowed to a stop, and they got out of the way, and I went on about my business. They were completely gone by the time I passed back by.

That sounds nice, Kelly. :) We don't have any mountains in Illinois so I don't get to see stuff like that. Once though I did see a a deer standing on the sidewalk near my house. :)
treky 12-15-2007, 11:02 PM you have to be careful getting up close to a deer, I heard that sometimes they can lash out at you and they have a real powerful kick! That's why you should never just walk up to one in the woods or beside the road, etc. no matter how cute it may look.
I heard about how a deer broke into a library around here, once late at night. It broke the window and jumped through, then paniced when it could'nt find a way out, and ran around breaking computer screens, etc. and caused over $2000.00 worth of damage!!!
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 12-16-2007, 12:16 AM There's one road by my house where you have to be really careful with deer...and we don't even live in the mountains haha. There's just deer everywhere in that area. I see them a lot, very pretty :)
