View Full Version : Did anyone keep their New Year's resolutions in 2007?

I did, for once. I was always speeding - at least 10 MPH over the limit. It was a bad habit, and even though I've never gotten a ticket, I knew it was wrong. Every now and then I lapse a bit, but for the most part, I've stuck to that resolution. That makes me feel good.

Really? Monika, you don't come across like a speeder. If that even makes any sense.

My New Year's resolution was to be a better person. I think I've accomplised it to a degree. However, I still have a long way to go until I am the person I truly wish to be.

The thing is, I'm often in a hurry, and I also play fast music in the car. But now that I try to take things slower (and listen to more talk radio in the car), I've become better. My brother-in-law's brother got clocked doing 110 in a 55 zone once. I've NEVER gone THAT far above the speed limit - usually between 10-15 at most!!

I didn't even make one because I knew I'd never stick to it.

I'm happy that you've never gotten a ticket and I hope that you never do. A funny thought that did pop into my mind though was, wouldn't it have been funny if you had been pulled over driving to work on Halloween dressed in the witch costume?

I've only had one speeding ticket and that was back in June 1999. That ticket was for going something like 40 over on the expressway. I was driving home from work and I was in too big of a hurry to get home. The problem with going that much over the speed limit is what do you tell the officer? "Sorry, officer, I didn't know I was going that fast." And if that wasn't bad enough, I didn't have proof of insurance in my car. I almost always do, but didn't on this day for some reason I can't remember. In Illinois driving without insurance is against the law, and since I could not prove that I did infact have insurance, I was given a second ticket for driving without proof of insurance. Thankfully, in traffic court I was able to prove that I did have insurance and that charge was dropped.

To make matters worse, this all happened about a month before two friends and I were taking a one week trip to San Francisco. Since you have to have several forms of ID, including one with a photo, to board tha plane at the airport and since my court date wasn't until Auguest, I had to go down to the DMV to get a state I.D.

Thankfully, the trip to San Francisco turned out to be a lot of fun. I used have a few pictures posted of me here at SO that were taken when I was in San Francisco.

Good for you! :D You sound like me - once you make a stupid mistake like that, you generally never do it again.

Well, I was awarded a $150 speeding ticket from the state of Illinois. And I really don't want another one.

That's a good incentive not to do it again.

Well, let's see now...I made three resolutions.

1) New job. Didn't happen.
2) New man. Didn't happen.
3) New house. Didn't happen.

I can only hope 2008 is better.

Well let's put it this way: If I had gotten #1, then #3 would have been a given.

It's #2 that most worries me.

I did get a great new job in 2007 which I'm very, very greatful.:) Sadly, I am still living at home. Thankfully though with this new job, I am probably going to be able to move out within the next year. :) I'm also still unlucky in love. And I'm not sure I'll ever find a girlfriend. :(

Well, I'm still living at home (though I do pay rent), but I really want to get a raise this coming year - I've earned it and I deserve it!! Mike, you are a smart, handsome and wonderful guy - I'm sure you'll find Miss Right one of these days! :D Any woman would be blessed to have a guy like you.

I pay rent too. My parents don't make me, but I would not feel right living at home at 31 for free. Thanks, Monika. :) If Miss Right is somewhere, I sure can't find her though.

Oh I know all about that one! Everytime I see people hook up so easily it makes me sick. I have to bust my butt to get something going yet I get complimented on my appearance all the time. Go figure!

It seems like everyone can find a girlfriend besides me. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Awwrr...:( Sometimes if you stop looking for it that's when it shows up. I know that's not very encouraging, but sometimes that's the way it goes.

As for resolutions, I don't make them because I don't like to set myself up for failure. I just try to do a little better than the year before on whatever my goals are.

I feel that way about jobs...I've been looking for a new job for quite awhile and I'm getting nowhere. And I'm following all the interview guidelines, tips, etc that you can find anywhere.

It's VERY frustrating, especially when you don't want to see your boss's face one more day.
