Reuters - Friday, December 14 08:11 am

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Upset that a stray rabid dog was fleeing with a duck from his compound, a man in southern India caught the animal, wrestled with it and bit it hard in the throat before it was beaten to death, a newspaper said.

A report in the Hindustan Times on Friday said that the dog had become a menace to villagers in Pakakkadavu, in the Kollam district of Kerala state, which, like most of India, has a large stray dog population.

The 65-year-old man wrestled with the dog in a ditch near his home on Wednesday and bit it so hard that it bled from its neck while one of his hands was in the grip of the animal's mouth, the report said.

Neighbours separated the two and beat the dog to death. The man was being treated in the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram for rabies, it said.

He was a rabid animal who would have posed a threat to any person near
it. Suppose that dog bit a totally innocent person and gave that person
rabies-would you still be calling that dog a sweet creature who deserves
to be saved? I do not.
Hmm, just where did I say that the dog was a "sweet creature?" And are you implying that BEATING a dog to DEATH is okay? There was no reason for that man to BITE that animal... sounds like he may have been the one with rabies.
If an animal can not be helped in any way then it should be put down in the most humane way possible. Humane being the key word there... beating is not humane.

Did you not read that article said? The dog was rabid. But I suppose you
were so filled with outrage that you couldn't read anything clearly.
Ohh okay so then it's okay to bite a dog? It's also okay to beat a dog?.. just so long as it has rabies right?
Nice to know.

Rabies is a potentially fatal disease. It is not the same as a common cold. You
call it animal murder, I call it killing in self defense so that countless people's
lives can be saved. And did you not read the last part? He had to get rabies
treatments because of the bite. Why would that happen if the dog was not
rabid?
Are you kidding me! Why would that happen? Did you NOT read the article? He got rabies because he bit the dog NOT the other way around! Where's the self defense? The dog did not attack him. The man chased him, the man wrestled him to the ground and THE MAN BIT THE DOG.
I am not saying "the dog should be able to run around biting people" I am saying the dog didn't deserve to be beaten to death. There are humane ways to put down a sick animal.. you know besides torturing it!

So you admit the dog had rabies like the beginning of the article said?
When did I ever say the dog didn't?

Funny how you ignore the questions I ask you.

Funny how you keep making me out to be the bad guy here when you are
the one that says that all creatures are gentle and harmless and that the lives of human beings don't rate very much. I bet you are a card carrying member of PETA, who are little more than a bunch of radical terrorists who bomb and destroy animal research labs and kill people all in the name of "animals".
Again please tell me where I said that "all creatures are gentle and harmless and that the lives of human beings don't rate very much?" Those are your words not mine (nice try though). And just why are you trying to make me the "bad guy" because I don't agree with beating an animal? I never said the animal shouldn't have been put down... the difference is HOW the animal should have been put down.
Not even close to being a member of PETA but you sure seem to know a lot about them.

If your going to try starting an argument (which I know you're doing) at least be some what good at it.
