I LOVE Christmas.
And I LOVE The Facts of Life.
And my most favorite FOL years are what I call "the Classic Cafeteria years", seasons 2-4, and also season 1 with the common room and original cast.
So it's nice that there are later Christmas episodes, but it saddens me that for the 1st 4 seasons there wasn't one Christmas show. Just think of how great the common room in the dorm would have looked all decked out for Christmas...and Mrs. Garrett could have played the piano as the girls all sing Christmas carols together (as a pianist it always bugged me that they never once used that piano).
Or in seasons 2-4, I think it would have been a great storyline to have something like Blair preparing for an exotic winter Christmas holiday skiing in the alps with her daddy, Natalie going with her parents to see Niagara Falls in the winter, Jo excited about the Bronx Christmas she's been longing for, Tootie eager to celebrate Christmas in NY with her parents and seeing a couple of Broadway shows as her big present, and Mrs. Garrett looking forward to a good old fashioned country Christmas in her hometown of Appleton, WI with both of her sons there together with her for the first time in ages...
...only to be snowed in at Eastland by the biggest blizzard seen in years. I know I know, it's not very original for a sitcom since it's been done before, but this is FOL---I would love to see this type of Christmas story on FOL. They're all so bummed out, angry, and depressed at having each of their Christmases "ruined", only for them to realize late in the show that what really matters at Christmas is being with your family and loved ones, and they really are with a family after all---their own Eastland family, 4 "sisters" and one "grandmother", maybe not related by blood, but by special bonds and experiences. :)
I'd love to see a scene where they exchange gifts in the lounge with a Christmas tree up in the "front right corner" of the stage, or else in Mrs. Garrett's room with a Christmas tree up in there (just imagine a sweet moment where Natalie and Tootie exchange gifts they make for each other, and in a moment of rare vulnerable sweetness at the holidays, Jo and Blair each give the other something that was important to them that they'd like the other one to have---awww).
Those seasons had some great shows, big favorites of mine, I just wish one of them could have been a Christmas show, lol.
