View Full Version : Beaver's baby picture
Waterston_Fan 12-03-2007, 08:03 PM Saw this episode this morning. I thought it was okay...
Can't believe June would do that to Beaver. I think she should have asked him about that particular picture. I think she could have looked for more pictures that were better than that one.
I wonder who that really was though?
Do you guys think Beaver overreacted?
I can't believe Ward never went to his den from when he got home to the next morning.
I would have thought he would have seen the pictures on his desk when he even put his briefcase away.
Janice 12-03-2007, 08:43 PM That episode had more plot holes than the pot holes on Boston's streets. June mailing the picture to Miss Landers made zero sense. June choosing that picture and thinking it was just a-okay made no sense. Nobody is that clueless, even if their pearls are strangling them, lol. As you stated above, Ward not going into his den was strange, as was the way he didn't listen closely enough to Beaver when they were on the sofa. Beaver was clearly in distress.
Ward, June and Beaver were acting out of character. The only ones with their heads on straight were Wally and Miss Landers. Why wouldn't Beaver just tell his mother that using that picture would be humiliating? Because she'd cry? That doesn't pass the smell test or the laugh test.
What was all that protecting June about too? Why couldn't Ward simply explain to her that her judgement was way off, and, "Get your coat, dear. Let's go have you evaluated."
This episode was all over the map. I thought it was a mess. It was an unintentional riot.

But it was Wally who told Beaver he would make mom cry..

I don't know then. They were all off the wall. The episode was silly, all around. Any mother in her right mind would know that a nude baby picture would embarrass a kid. I'm an adult, and it would embarrass me.

Yeah... and if you notice on the episode, Beaver's classmates baby pictures didn't have any that were nude.
I do agree, it is kinda embarrassing to have a baby pic of you nude and have your mother show it... June should have known better, can't tell me there weren't any other baby pictures of Beaver she could have used.

The picture got cut up. I would think that June would expect to get the picture back. Like I said, plot holes galore.
Definitely right there are a lot of holes in the action; but that's true of Beaver and most other shows in the majority of episodes. But yes,-- come on! Is June so obsessed with the beauty of her perfect baby the way he came into the world that she not only thinks everyone wants to see the 'real' him, but she is going into a mild depression when she learns that pic did not win the contest? And how she refused to consider the notion that the picture would embarass Beaver ["Do you really think I would send anything to the school that would embarrass him??"]. But the cowardice of the boys and Ward to confront her about it is sickening; especially consdiering that they did so at other times, such as Wally saying she "played that dirty trick on me" when she drove him to school on the first day and then went in to introduce herself to his teacher; and June's own reference once to Ward's criticism of a dress she bought that he said looked like a flour sack. June is a caring, sensitive wife and mother, and overall it's good that the 'men' in the family react in kind with her, but if she realized Beaver would be humiliated she wouldn't want that, so they should have maide it plain.
Finally, it's worth noting that June does have a very different reaction to a later ep when it's the end of the school year and the class is giving Miss Landers gifts and June orders a set of hankerchiefs for the gift and at the same time a slip for herself. But the store mixes them up and gift-wraps the slip, which Beaver is thought to be taking to school for Miss Landers. June is very concerned Beaver will be embarrassed when she opens that 'gift' in front of the class. That's less of a blunder than the naked baby picture, but somehow she can't see that, and supposedly never had to find out how Ward "fixed" it.
