Any one remember this case. I was trying to find the episode. It was the case of the Boston Police officer who was killed while responding to a bank robbery call. The perpertrators were some anti-Vietnam activist. Heres the blurb that appears on the Officer Down Memorial page.

[Patrolman Walter Schroeder was shot and killed while responding to a silent alarm at a bank at 0920 hours. The bank was being robbed by a gang of anti-Vietnam War activists. As he exited his cruiser and walked towards the bank a gang member who was across the street opened fire on him with a Thompson submachine gun, striking him in the back several times. Patrolman Schroeder was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.]

Yeah, that was from the first season. Most (all?) of the members of the activist group were arrested except for Cathy (Kathy?) Powers who eluded capture until she eventually turned herself in some time after the initial broadcast. I forget exactly what her role was in the robbery. She didn't pull the trigger on Officer Schroeder, but she was an accomplice.

I believe it aired on 5/3/89 - though that may not have been the first time.

Thanks for the info. I remember one of the suspects killing himself in prison with a homemade bomb. Kathy was eventually caught also. Is this episode on any of Crystals DVD's. I have all of them but don't know what it would be under on the sheets she provided. Thanks again.

Yeah, that's the same episode. As to whether it's on Crystaldawn's DVDs, I don't have any of them so I couldn't tell ya.

Although the bank robbery took place in Brighton, the reenactment of it was filmed in my home town. The filming took place in March of 1989. I didn't know about it until after the fact. I just remember my father coming home (after running some errands, if I am correct) and saying that they were filming a reenactment for the show. He then said the episode would be shown the following May, which it was.

Kane,

Do you recall how much time she got?

For what it's worth, one of Schroeder's relatives made some insightful statements about the fact that Powers should still be held accountable for this even though she didn't pull the trigger and so much time had gone by. I was glad to hear that Powers did the right thing in attempting to rectify the situation by turning herself in, even though it was so many years later.

Kane,

She was sentenced to eight to twelve years in prison. However, she was paroled in 1999 after serving six years. She was then given fourteen years of probation.
