Although I posted on this issue a while back, I never got any responses in regards to this topic. I would now like to give it a second chance. It seemed that in the course of two years, the show, more or less reversed the process of evolution in terms of schools of thought. In season one, we have "Julie's First Love". In this episode, we find Julie on the horn calling just about every guy in between the place where she was sitting and the state line begging them to take her to a school dance! In this episode, Katie stated as clear as day that it was the nineteen eighties and so it was okay for a girl to ask a guy for a date. She then made a joking reference to the champain commercial that was popular at the time. Two years later, we have "Samantha's Protest". Early in this episode, it was implied that Julie and Katie were on a walk in which they passed a handsome guy but did not say anything to him. An optimistic Katie talked herself into believing that he was whistling at her. In an attempt to be the voice of reason, Julie said that the boy was calling his dog! Later in the episode, we see the boy at the protest and Katie flirts her butt off! The guy is very embarrassed by the situation as so is Julie! The only explanation that I can think of as to why Katie does not ask him out is that they feels that it is indecent for a girl to do such a thing. I am wondering what happened in those two years that caused the writers to change points of view. Personally, I like it better with the second school of thought. This way, we get the joy of seeing Samantha burst Katie's bubble at the end! I think that Katie "truely" got what she deserved of her egotism and her disgusting behavior at the protest!
